Third Grade ELA 2/27 to 3/2

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th for 2/27 to 3/2

Dear Parents,
          As the current picture shows, this Wed. is Hippie Day throughout the school.  All students are allowed to come dressed in appropriate clothes, beads ,ets. and some may be selected to join the school contest on that day.  Progress Reports will be distributed on Thursday.  Dismissal on Fri. is at 12:00.
           The weekly vocabulary definitions are posted on Ms. Bagley's blog. Please be sure to have students copy these in Vocabulary notebook as Monday's homework.  Please see below your child's grade for this week's homework.  ELA homework is based on the new core curriculum for Unit 4 which is based on historical themes that will be covered in class as well. 
FOURTH GRADE
ELA 2/28 Answer ELA Workbook p. 74 in ELA notebook.  Then  to answer the bottom section choose a historical figure from the American Revolution and on looseleaf write three FACTS and three OPINIONS about this person.  Information will be used for speeches next week.  Visitwww.library.thinkquest.org for ideas.  Click on people or actions!
Rel 3/1 On looseleaf write a heading.  Write a title  and one paragraph in script describing activities in which we are engaged during the season of Lent.
THIRD GRADE
ELA 2/28 Answer ELA Workbook p. 122 in ELA notebook.  Then choose one U.S. president and on looseleaf  write some interesting facts you have researched about him.  Circle one CAUSE and EFFECT example you found in your research.
Rel 3/1 On looseleaf write a heading. Write a title and one paragraph in script describing activities in which we are engaged during the season of Lent.

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th 2/20 to 2/24

Dear Parents,
         This Wed. at 10:00 all classes will attend Mass and receive blessed ashes on their foreheads. Unit 3 tests will be given in all subjects this week. The ELA/Penmanship test will be given this Thurs. and the Religion test will be given on Fri.  No other homework will be given this week so that students can concentrate on review work.  Please see below your child's grade for a detailed list of what to study:

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th graders for 2/13 to 2/17

Dear Parents,
        This Tuesday all students should wear RED dress up clothes -NO JEANS since we will be celebrating Mass in honor of Archbishop[ Dolan's elevation to Cardinal on Feb. 16th.Students in grade 2-1 should bring in  three or four dollars in order to cover Valentine party and have money for the Cake Sale as well, however all students do need to bring in their own individual juice.
       On Thursday class group pictures will be taken so all students need to be in complete school uniform including TIES!
        The vocabulary definitions for this week can be found on Ms. Sanchez's blog. Please make sure all twenty definitions are copied in Vocabulary notebooks on Monday night since these will be checked and graded on Tuesday morning.

***UNIT 3 TESTS WILL BE GIVEN NEXT WEEK IN ALL SUBJECTS!  PLEASE BE SURE TO CHECK BLOG OVER THE WEEKEND TO KNOW WHAT TO REVIEW WITH STUDENTS.          Please check below your child's grade for this week's homework:
FOURTH GRADE
ELA 2/14 Prepare speech based on outline sample in ELA Workbook p. 134. It can be on any animal of your choice (except the whale). Be sure to use precise, appropriate vocabulary in describing your animal.  This will be followed up by writing a description in cinquain poetry to be introduced on Monday.
ELA 2/16 Study  for Spelling test on Wed. on abbreviations.  Practice in script.  In ELA notebook answer ELA Workbook pp. 109 (only the top) and p. 110.
THIRD GRADE
ELA 2/14 Prepare speech based on KWL chart sample in ELA Workbook p. 138.  It can be on any black  historical figure (except Jackie Robinson or Martin Luther King).  This will be followed up by writing a factual account describing their favorite person for Black History Month.
ELA 2/16 Study p. 247 and 48 (top) in Speller for Spelling test on Wed on abbreviations. Practice in script.  In ELA notebook answer ELA Workbook pp. 106 and 107.
SECOND GRADE
Rel 2/14 Answer Rel. Workbook p. 20 and MEMORIZE definitions.  Review the TEN COMMANDMENTS
Rel 2/16 Answer Rel. Workbook p. 21. Write 3 sentences on top.
Voc. 2/16 Study 20 weekly definitons for test tomorrow.

answer ELA Workbook p. 115 on addressing an envelope and p. 116 on direct quotes.
ELA 2/9 In ELA notebook do same on top line. In notebook answer ELA Workbook p. 134 (outline on whales). Be prepared to use this sample outline to give next speech. The speech however will be on a different animal.  For another sample on how to do an outline see ELA Workbook p. 139.
THIRD GRADE
ELA 2/7 In ELA notebook on top line write ONLY: ELA Workbook, page #, date. In notebook answer ELA Workbook p. 89 and 92 on adverbs. ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS.
ELA 2/9 In ELA notebook do same on top line. In notebook answer ELA Workbook p. 125. Choose any black history figure  (except Martin Luther King or one in the sample) to complete the KWL chart.  Follow the sample in ELA Workbook p. 138. Be prepared to use this  to give next speech.
SECOND GRADE
Rel. 2/7 Answer in Religion Workbook p. 32. MEMORIZE the four definitions: four steps of Reconciliation and MEMORIZE the Act of Contrition (class 2-2)
Rel. 2/9 Answer in Religion Workbook p. 33- ALL questions neatly.  For the top write a poem.
Review the TEN COMMANDMENTS and notes on Reconciliation for test next week.
Voc. 2/9 Study weekly vocabulary definitions for test this Friday.
