Dear Parents,
         Please remember that Religion homework in ReligionWorkbook p. 5 given on Thursday is due this Monday.  Religion Test will also be given this Monday.  ELA test on punctuation will be this Tuesday, and  a brief Spelling test will be given this Wednesday. Please see below each grade for what you need to review.

Fourth grade
Religion: sin - temptation - mortal sin - venial sin - sin of omission - sin of commission - social sin- samaritan - How can a thought be a sin?  - How can failure to act be a sin?
ELA: Review ELA text pp. 470-479
Spel: Review homophones in ELA text pp. 206-209.

Third grade
Religion: last judgment - second coming - first judgment - heaven - Jesus' Great Commandments -How will we be judged? - What did Jesus mean when he referred to "the least of mine"?
ELA: Review ELA text pp. 468-479
Spel: Review homophones in ELA text pp. 290-293.

Second grade
Religion: Catholic - faith - worship - parish -  sacrament - priest (leader of a parish) - How many sacraments are there? - Is Jesus present in the sacramnents? - How does a parish work together? - What happens at Baptism?
ELA: Review ELA book pp. 14 to 23
Spel: Review FF. words: think - when - push - each - draw - sing - out - took - slow - call.

This Thursday will be our Mass for St. Francis of Assisi.  Students may bring their pet to be blessed but pet must be taken home right after the Mass. We will continue our Project based learning on St. Francis this Friday  THIRD GRADE  students should bring in pictures and samples of his prayers and writings in a quart  size plastic bag sealed and labeled with their name.  For ELA in each class we will continue to work on writing and begin speeches based on writing topics.  ITBS begins next week!

FOURTH GRADE 
ELA 10/2 Study for Spelling test (see above) . On looseleaf write a heading. Use ELA Workbook. p. 94 and write each sentence with its correct homophone.

Rel. 10/4 Study Religion notes  and study pp. 56 to 63. In text answer  #1 to 8 on  p. 66 .
For the ELA test this Friday study ALL notes in Journal Notebook  on the four poems covered in class this week. Review also the homophones: ELA text pp. 206-209.     .

THIRD GRADE
ELA 10/2 Study for Spelling test. (see above). On looseleaf write a heading. In ELA Workbook pp. 98-99.  DO ONLY #1to 6 on EACH page. Copy ONLY the correct sentences in each set.

Rel  10/4 Study Religion notes and study pp. 56 to 63. In text answer #1 to 7 on p. 66.
For the ELA test this Friday study ALL notes in Journal Notebook on all types of nouns listed from Merry-Go-Round: A Book of Nouns by Ruth Heller. Review also homophones:  ELA text pp. 290-293.
 ***Third grade students should prepare a brief speech on St. Francis of Assisi based on videos seen in class and research done. Notes should be written on one index card and kept in Homework folder. Speeches will be heard on Thursday and Friday this week!

SECOND GRADE
ELA 10/2 Study for Spelling test. On looseleaf write a heading. DO NOT WRITE IN THE ELA BOOK  In ELA book p. 31 make up THREE sentences for the middle of the story using words in wordbank. Then copy the whole story: title, beginning, middle, ending on the looseleaf.

Rel. 10/4 Study Religion notes and study pp. 56 to 63. In text answer #1 to 8 on p. 66.
For the ELA test this Friday study ALL notes in Journal Notebook on making up who, what, where, when, how, why questions for Frog and Toad All Year by Arnold Lobel.  Review also the ten spelling words:      think - when - push - each - draw - sing - out - took - slow - call.

Dear Parents,
          School is closed this Friday.  All grades will be taking their second weekly Religion test THIS Monday. Please see below for what each grade should review for this test.  Students recorded notes in their Religion  notebooks and Religion definitions in their Vocabulary notebooks.

SECOND: Study pp. 32 to 42 in text book and definitions of ff. words: apostles - disciples - Resurrection - Pentecost - Church - Easter - unborn - elderly - handicapped

THIRD: Study pp. 32 to 42 and pp. 296 to 299 and definitions of ff words: Kingdom of God - parable -Bible - Scripture - Old & New Testaments - Resurrection - crucified (Crucifixion) - faith.  * Be sure to review the parables of The Sower of Seeds and The Mustard Seed.

FOURTH: Study pp. 32 to 42 ( especially pp 34-35) and notes in Religion notebook.  Review also definitions of ff. words: God's image - holiness  (in notes) - Beatitudes -blessed - Kingdom of God - peace - justice - mourn - meek - merciful - persecuted. MEMORIZE the Sanctus prayer (in notebook)

           This week I will continue reviewing punctuation rules with all classes and the test on this will be given NEXT TUESDAY since there is no school this Friday and Religion tests are scheduled for Mondays. I will be also be working with graphic organizers leading into composition writing and speech with all three grades. Please see below for this week's homework:

Dear Parents
         This Monday all classes will be taking their first Religion test. Vocabulary words to be reviewed for each class are listed below. Please review the definition for each on pp. 20 to 30 in Religion text.

FOURTH GRADE: Blessed Trinity- Church - disciple - apostle - grace - Savior - original sin - Incarnation - Sign of the Cross (prayer to the Blessed Trinity)

THIRD GRADE: Blessed Trinity - Holy Family - Incarnation - prophet - repent - publc ministry - disciple - apostle - Sign of the Cross (prayer to the Blesssed Trinity)

SECOND GRADE: Blessed Trinity - Holy Family - God - Jesus - Holy Spirit - Joseph - Mary - divine - human - Sign of the Cross (prayer to the Blessed Trinity)

           This Friday afternoon each class will begin their project based learning on St. Francis Assisi with their home room teacher.  Therefore I will be working only with third grade and since I teach ELA and Religion our class theme will be The Prayers and Writings of St. Francis of Assisi. Third grade students will be asked to do research in this area in the coming weeks.

             This Friday also will be our next ELA test which will be based on the book each class has been studying in class.  New words encountered in these books will be listed in their VOCABULARY notebooks and notes about the book will be in their JOURNAL notebooks.  These should be reviewed for this test.  This week also each class will be reviewing use of punctuation whch will be on next week's ELA test.

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, 4th for 9/10 to 9/14

Dear Parents,
          Welcome to a new school year!  This Tuesday we will have our opening Mass so be sure all students are in school uniform.  This Friday dismissal will be at 12:00.  This week all grades will begin their DAILY assessments based on using capital letters correctly.This Friday will be the WEEKLY quiz on the same type of questions.  Also as you were informed at the meeting, students will be involved in listening, answering questions, and interpreting information on books listed in the Core Curriculum.  I have already begun this past week with the following books:
Poppleton in Winter by Cynthis Rylant for 2nd grade
The Stories Julian Tells  by Ann Cameron for 3rd grade
Love That Dog by Sharon Creech by 4th grade
              This responding to literature will continue throughout the year leading to use of graphic organizers, speech preparation, and writing activities using other books, especially non-fiction.
Assessments will be based on how students listen and respond in class. Notes will be recorded in their Journal notebook and related vocabulary words and definitions will be recorded in their Vocabulary notebook. Remember that students only need one Homework folder to hold the work for all teachers.  Homework assignments will be listed on the blog and in their homework pads as well.
Also check there for any changes or updates.
                 Please be sure to check BELOW THE CORRECT GRADE that your child is in to view this week"s assignments. Also check the date to see when each homework is assigned and make sure it is completed and handed in class the nexr day.
