Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th for 3/26 to 3/30

Dear Parents of ALL GRADES,
         Please read all the following information below carefully!   By Tuesday, all students need to bring in sturdy plastic bags to pack up all books this week that will not be taken home.  ALL CLASSES also need to bring in their Religion flash cards for Units 1, 2, 3, 4 on http://www.sadlierrelgion.com/ each in a separate sandwich bag for review. Religion tests will be given to ALL CLASSES on the notes written or stapled in their Religion notebooks on both the word definitions and answers to the essay questions.  Students should look up answers as necessary to prepare for the tests. This will also help students for the archdiocesan exam.
****Students should also review last week's vocabulary definitions . The test will be given this week whenever the test copies are sent up.
         Report cards will be distributed in classrooms on Thursday morning. Dismissal will be at 12:00. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.  The Honors Assembly will be on Friday after Church services.  Students may bring in Easter candy and treats on Friday afternoon and each student should bring their own individual juice.
         Since the Religion tests were already scheduled since last week and due to this week's full schedule, Religion tests will be given on Tues. and Wed. Please see below:

3/26 Rel. Test Tues. on all words listed in Rel. notebooks.  Students should review the definitions of these words in particular.
3/27 Rel. Test Wed. on answering the essay questions in the Rel. notebook.

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th for 3/19 to 3/23

Dear  Parents,
         There will be no school this Friday! I am listing the vocabulary today so that students will have the full  week to study the new definitions listed below.  All words and definitions should be copied in their notebooks Monday night for homework as usual and the test will be given next Thursday, Mar. 29 since it is expected that  there will not be no school on March 30th as well.
These are called word family words because they have the same smaller word in them.
        
1. upside - the top side; an advantage or good part of doing or having something
2. downside - the lower side; a disadvantage or drawback, not good
3. sidewalk - a paved path along the side of a street
4. sidespin - a turning mootion that spins a ball sideways
5. sidelines -  area outside the borders of the playing field; activities other than a person's regular job
6. sidewinder -a small rattlesnake that moves in a sideways, looping motion
7. sidebar - a short news story that is printed alongside a longer story
8. sidesplitting - extremely funny
9. sidestep -  to step to one side; to get out of the way
10. sidetrack - to move or distract someone from what he or she is doing
11. asleep - in a state of sleep
12. sleepy - feeling like sleeping or ready to sleep; drowsy
13. sleepiness - the state of being drowsy or ready to go to sleep
14. sleepless - not able to sleep
15. sleeplessness - the state of not being able to sleep
16. sleepwear - clothing worn to sleep
17. sleepyhead - a person who feels tired and ready to go to sleep
18. sleepover - an event where one or more people sleep at another person's  home
19. sleepwalk - to walk in your sleep
20. sleepwalker - a person who walks in his or her sleep

       There are MANY schedule changes due to smartboard trainings and report card meetings for teachers this week.  Fourth grade will need to continue speeches and composition work scheduled for last Wed. when class was split up and thereore not seen.  Please be aware that adjustments must be made as we become aware of them.
   ****  Due to gym class on Wed for 3rd & 4th grades, Spelling quiz must be given on Tuesday and    due to no school on Friday, Religion test must be given on Thursday as well as the weekly vocabulary test. Please see below your child's grade and observe the dates.

FOURTH GRADE
ELA 3/19 Study notebook work done on Workbook pp. 43 and 60 for Spelling quiz on TUESDAY.
Rel. 3/21 Study notes on the Beatitudes and what the terms used mean as well as the Corporal and Spiritual Works  and how to practice them for test on Thurs.

THIRD GRADE
ELA 3/19 Study notebook work done on Workbook pp. 83 and 100 for Spelling quiz on TUESDAY.
Rel. 3/21 Practice answering essay questions listed in notebook for test on Thurs.  Review vocabulary on flash cards on www.sadlierreligion.com


SECOND GRADE
Rel. 3/19 Practice studying vocabulary and  answering essay questions listed in notebook for test on Thurs.  Review vocabulary on flash cards on www.sadlierreligion.com
 Voc. 3/21 Test on Thursday on weekly vocabulary definitions.

Third Grade ELA 3/12 to 3/16

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th for 3/12 to 3/16

Dear Parents,
        Due to necessary schedule changes last week-- including rearranged computer and gym periods and third grade split up on one day, a few of last week's lessons are rescheduled for this week.  Please be aware that scheduled lessons may need to be rescheduled or adjusted depending on circmstances that arise during the week.
         Friday's vocabulary test on last week's words will be given this Monday to all classes .  The principal decided that the new vocabulary definitions will not be assigned this week. 
          Please check below your child's grade for this week's homework
FOURTH GRADE
ELA 3/13 In ELA notebook answer Workbook pp. 43 and 60 on prefixes and  suffixes.
On  looseleaf write five sentences to answer each of the interview questions you prepared
(or choose better questions if you like)
Rel. 3/15 MEMORIZE the Beatitudes and what each one means in text on p. 35.  Copy into Religion notebook neatly in script each Beatitude and what each one means.
THIRD GRADE
ELA 3/13 In ELA notebook answer Workbook pp. 83 and 100 on prefixes and suffixes.
On looseleaf create a Venn diagram on ONE set of two presidents you studied ...

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th 3/5 to 3/9

Dear Parents,
            The vocabulary definitions for this week are listed on Mr. Badia's blog.  Please see below your child's grade for this week's homework.
FOURTH GRADE
ELA 3/6 - On looseleaf write a heading.  Choose a person from the period of the American Revolution. Write a title and a 6 to 8 sentence biographical sketch (paragraph) about that person.  The write THREE interesting questions that you would ask if you could have interviewed this person about what he/she did.
REL 3/8- In Rel. Workbook answer pp. 29-30. Memorize the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy.
THIRD GRADE
ELA 3/6 - On looseleaf write a heading.  Choose two U.S. presidents to compare and contrast.  Write TWO similarites and THREE differences between them. This information will be used to create Venn diagrams and speeches.
REL 3/8 - In Rel. Workbook answer p.26.  Circle type of prayer you choose and write at least a four sentence prayer.
SECOND GRADE
REL 3/6 - On looseleaf write a heading.  Choose one Station of the Cross and write a 3 or 4 sentence prayer to Jesus explaining how this Station inspires you to act in your life. Begin by writing the number and name of the Station listed in your notebook. Then begin your letter with date, greeting(Dear Jesus,), and closing (Love,) and signature (your first name).
REL 3/8 -  Study Chapters 20 & 21 for test next week.
VOC 3/8 - Study 20 weekly vocabulary definitions for test tomorrow.
