Homework for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th for 1/28 to 2/1

Dear Parents,
         I was absent on Monday because i had to apppear for jury duty but am currently back and will be here for Parent  Teacher Conferences. Please READ AND SIGN LETTER SENT HOME IN YOUR CHILD'S TEST FOLDER. LETTER MUST BE SENT IN BY TOMORROW MORNING
BEFORE REPORT CARDS.  You may keep the work in the folder and I suggest strongly that you keep it neat and complete in a safe place so you use them to review further when necessary for finals.  PLEASE BRING THE TEST FOLDER WITH YOU TO THE CONFERENCE so that we may discuss any questions you may have regarding your child's work.
         I did not post any homework for this week until today because  I neede to be at school to give an individual assignment to each student to research. Today I was able to do this for every student in third and fourth grades. Each fourth grader has been assigned one of three animals and each third gader has been assigned a notable creative or inventive person to research. Second graders will be working on creating different categories about a topic and listing them on a graphic organizer.
           Pleaase see below you child's grade for this week's homework in ELA. Relgion will be assigned by Thursday.

FOURTH GRADE
ELA 1/29 Based on the animal you were assigned (horse, dog, or mouse) do research on REAL facts about the animal (to prepare for a speech). Be able to describe its possible habitats, typical diet,  natural enemies, way of protecting itself, life expectancy, and any other iinteresting facts you find.
Use 2 or 3 pictures from the internet that are related to specific parts of your speech.
You may use a book or google!  On the wekend search for a FICTION BOOK on hat same animal so that that next week we can compare/contrast how animals are depicted in fiction and non-fiction works.

Prepare a speech and be able to give several examples of why this person is considered to be creative or inventive.  Use two or three pictures to show samples of the person's work.

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades 1/21 to 1/25

Dear Parents.
         This is a reminder that Mid Term Exams wiil be give to ALL CLASSES this week! The ELA/Penmanship Exam will be on Wed. and the Religion Exam will be on Thurs.  Test folders with previous tests for students to review were sent home last week. Second grade will be given theirs on Tuesday. Please have students bring back  these test folders on Tuesday so additional recent quizzes can be included and these also can be reviewed before exams. All test folders will then be due back for filing on Friday.  Please make no changes of any kind are made on
        For the ELA Mid Term please make sure that all students review well the notes in the Journal notebook  on understanding how to apply  the essential question to the work we have done this year.  Third and fourth graders should also practice script (forming and joining letters).
       Below is a more specific list on what to review  for the Religion Mid Term for each grade:

FOURTH GRADE
*Know definitions of all words from Unit 1 & 2 from flash cards on www.sadlierreligion.com
*Memorize the Sanctus Prayer in notebook: "Holy, holy, holy...
*Memorize the six steps for making a good moral choice listed in notebook.
*Be able to explain making a difficult moral choice.
*Memorize the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy and be able to DISTINGUISH between them
*Memorize each of the Ten Commandments and be able to explain how YOU would live each one.
*Memorize Jesus' Two Great Commandments and how to live each.
*Review the life of a saint. Know some facts about the saint's life and be able to expalain how the saint has inspired you to act in your life.

THIRD GRADE
 *Know definitions of all words from Unit 1 & 2 from flash cards on www.sadlierreligion.com
*Review all the additional definitions in the Religion notebook including stewardship, pope, bishop, pastor, deacon, layperson, religious brother or sister, prophet, vocation , vow, etc.
*Memorize each of the Ten Commandments and be able to explain how YOU would live each one.
*Memorize Jesus' Two Great Commandments and how to live each.
*Review the parables in the notebook and text book.  Describe what happens and the lesson each teaches.
*Review the sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist.  Be able to explain what happens in each why we receive these sacraments.

SECOND GRADE
 *Know definitions of all words from Unit 1 & 2 from flash cards on www.sadlierreligion.com
*Know the name of all the sacraments and the reason for each sacrament.
*Memorize each of the Ten Commandments and be able to give two examples on how YOU would
live each one.
*Be able to explain the sacrament of Baptism: symbols used, people present, what happens.
*Be able to explain how to examine one's conscience: examples of sins you might commit. And know what each step means: confession, contrition, penance, absolution.
*Know definition for sin and the difference between mortal and venial sin and original sin.
*Memorize the entire Act of Contrition prayer.
*Know how we prepare for the birth of Jesus during Advent:
  how to prepare an Advent wreath, who & what belongs in a Nativity scene, how to make a jesse tree
*Review the terms: Church, Resurrection, Crucifixion, Pentecost, Nativity, Blessed Trinity, Holy Family, human/divine, Ascension, Incarnation.

Review List for Mid Term Exams for 2nd, 3rd, 4th

Dear Parents,                                                                                 CHECK FOR UPDATES!
         Mid Term Exams will be given to all grades on Jan. 22, 23. and 24. ELA and Penmanship Exams will be on Jan. 23 and Religion on Jan. 24. Parent Teacher Conferences for Report Cards has been CHANGED to Wed. Jan. 30 instead of Thurs. This week we will begin  work on Unit 3 for ELA  but will review for Mid Term Exams as well. STUDENTS SHOULD SPEND ALL WEEK REVIEWING NOTES IN THE JOURNAL NOTEBOOK AND PRACTICE PENMANSHIP.

 FOR RELIGION STUDENTS SHOULD REVIEW ALL UNIT 1 AND 2 VOCABULARY DEFINITIONS PRINTED OUT FROM www.sadlierreligion.com FLASHCARDS AND  ALL ADDITIONAL DEFINITIONS AND ALL NOTES RECORDED IN RELIGION NOTEBOOK.

*Review use of sensory words  describing sight, sound, smell, taste, touch (textbook)
*Review use of capital letter use (textbook)
*Review distinguishing telling, asking, command, exclaiming sentences (textbook)
*Review punctuation use: ending marks (textbook)
*Review recognizing different parts of speech: adjective, noun, verb, adverb and their correct sequence in a sentence  (textbook)
*Review examples of similes (related to poem on descrbing features on a creature)
*Review examples of onomatopoeia used in poetry (identifying sounds for different actions)
*Review examples of alliteration (related to poem on an animal)
*Review writing a title, an introduction, and a conclusion correctly. Titles use capital letters!
*Review applying essential question: How can similes, onomatopoeia. alliteration be used in poetry? Practice writing a sample of each type of poem.

Fourth and third graders will be required to write in script on  a part of the  ELA Mid Term. Forming and joining letters correctly is important.  Second graders will do manuscript (printing only) but correct formation of letters and distinguishing between capital and lower case
is important.

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th 1/7 to 1/11

          Please see below the correct grade to view this week's homework.

 SECOND GRADE
ELA 1/8  On looseleaf, write a heading.  Create  a word web of  EIGHT words including adjectives, nouns, verbs, adverbs ALL BEGINNING WITH THE SAME LETTER that can be used to write a poem about an animal. The name of the animal should be in the center. ELA TEST FRIDAY.
REL 1/10 Study Chapter 10.  Memorize the ACT of Contrition in text p. 139. Answer Rel. book p. 130. Religion Quiz will be on Monday. ELA QUIZ IS TOMORROW. STUDY ALL DEFINITIONS IN JOURNAL FOR plan, draft, revise, edit, publish. Be prepared to recognize and write poems using similes, onomatopoeia, and alliteration.

THIRD GRADE
