Dear Parents,
        Just a reminder that all grades will have a Religion quiz on Monday based on what students were assigned to study last Thursday. Below is a brief review of what to study:

FOURTH GRADE-  Vocabulary: conscience, examination of conscience, temptation, feelings (in notes), prodigal son parable.  Students should be able to explain how feeling glad or sad does not determine if we have made a right or wrong moral choice. STUDY ALL NOTES AND CHAPTER 4.

THIRD GRADE - Vocabulary: Kingdom of God, parable, scripture, faith, Resurrection, Crucifixion,
Know difference between Old and New Testament.  Be able to describe each of the four parts of the parable "The Sower of Seeds."  STUDY ALL NOTES AND CHAPTER 26.

SECOND GRADE- Vocabulary: Resurrection, Pentecost, Church, disciples, apostles, elderly, unborn, handicapped. Be able to explain how the Holy Spirit helps the church.  STUDY CHAPTER 2 AND NOTES.

            This Friday we are celebrating  the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi at our 9:00 Mass. Students may have their pet blessed at the Mass but students in third grade MUST have a parent
take the pet home right after the Mass.  This coming Monday third and fourth graders will be
taking the Interim on line test in ELA as well as in other subjects. Each grade should review ALL ELA NOTES given  thus far in their notebooks as well as what is listed below:

FOURTH GRADE
 
ELA 10/1 On looseleaf write full heading answer p. 479 in text book ( while referring  to p. 478 for help) .   On the back of the same looseleaf  answer ELA Practice Book  p.118.

Study well in ELA Voyages text book  pp.522  to 525 in the Voyages text book.
  Please note that  Friday's weekly quiz will include questions based on these text book pages.

REL 10/3 Study Rel. notes in notebook for quiz on Monday. Know how to pray the rosary and be able to identify and explain happens in each Joyful mystery.
                 Handwriting - Do pp.16-17.
          REVIEW ELA NOTES  AND ELA  PAGES ABOVE  FOR INTERIM TEST ON MONDAY!
 Be sure to study vocabulary definitions and all notes in ELA notebook.

THIRD GRADE

ELA 10/1  On looseleaf write full heading. Answer ELA Practice Book pp. 103 and 104.

Study well in Voyages ELA text book pp. 509 (under NOUNS) to p.511. Also study TENSES  and VERBS sections on pp.514 to 516.  Study also pp. 518 to p.520.
Please note that Friday's weekly quiz will include questions based on these text book pages.


REL 10/3 Study Rel. notes in notebook for quiz on Monday. Be able to explain each of the following parables: The Wedding of Cana,  The Widow's Son, and   The Multiplication of Loaves.

 Be sure to study vocabulary definitions and all notes in ELA notebook.
SECOND GRADE 

ELA 10/1 On looseleaf write full heading.  Answer ELA Practice Book p. 23  and p. 160 (section A) . For ELA quiz on Friday study Superkids  Word Work book pp.  10,11,and 12.   Practice how to write a letter correctly ; for this see ELA Workbook pp. 65 to 67.  Study meaning of words plan, draft, revise, edit, publish that explain the writing process (in ELA notebook)

REL 10/3 Study Chapter 3 in Religion text book.  Be sure you know all key words (in red) and how to identify each of the sacraments by definition.
                Handwriting - Do pp.22-23.
          REVIEW ELA NOTES  AND ELA  PAGES ABOVE  FOR INTERIM TEST ON MONDAY!
         Second grade will also take an Interim test but it will be written, not on line

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades for 9/23 to 9/27

Dear Parents,
         This Monday ALL classes will have their first Religion quiz so all were reminded to take home their Religion notebooks and Religion textbook.  The quiz for each grade will be based on all Religion notes recorded in Religion notebooks and Chapter 1 in their textbooks.
           Below is a list of Religion vocabulary words each class should lookup and study for the quiz.

SECOND GRADE:   Blessed Trinity, Holy Family, Sign of the Cross, human, divine.  Know the parts of the Blessed Trinity.  Know what makes Jesus human and what makes him divine.

THIRD GRADE:  Blessed Trinity, Holy Family, Sign of the Cross, Incarnation, prophet (eg. John the Baptist),  repent, Jesus' name,  Jesus's mission on earth  (public  ministry), apostle, disciple, parable,. Study the parable of The Mustard Seed.

FOURTH GRADE:  Blessed Trinity, Holy Family, Sign of the Cross, conscience, conscience formation, God's image, free will,  creation, holiness, stewardship, grace, reverence.  LOOK FOR ALL THESE TERMS IN YOUR NOTEBOOK.  Memorize the STEPS FOR MAKING A GOOD MORAL CHOICE.

Please check below  for this week's homework. Remember that I assign homework on Tuesdays and Thursdays but be aware that the ELA quiz will always be on Fridays and Religion quiz will always be on Mondays.  In case school is closed those days, quiz will be given the following day.
 
SECOND GRADE
9/24 ELA- On looseleaf write full heading.  Answer ELA Workbook p. 65.  Then click on link www.wenovel.com/book/110/3847.html. Click on Start read and then on Chapter 9.  Read the chapter and  focus on character traits of Wilbur and Charlotte.  On a different looseleaf write your name and write what this chapter reveals about what Wilbur is like and what Charlotte is like and why. Go ahead and read whatever other chapters you like!

9/26 ELA quiz tomorrow.  Review all notes in ELA notebook.
        Religion quiz on Monday. Review all notes in Religion notebook  and Chapter 2 in text book
         Handwriting  - Do p. 15 in the book.

THIRD  GRADE
9/24 ELA- On looseleaf write  a heading.  Answer ELA Workbook  p.. 18 and p. 42

FOURTH GRADE
9/24 ELA Do research on animal assigned in class either on line or in books.  On looseleaf write a heading and answer the following:
1. Describe the animal's characteristics...
2. Describe the animal's habitat  (type of habitat and/or country)
3. Identify its usual predators.
4 . Explain how the animal makes adaptations to its environment.

9/26  ELA quiz tomorrow.  Review all notes in ELA notebook. Review research you did on either the myth associated with your constellation or your research on an animal.  Study notes on Van Gogh's Starry Night as well as analysis on http://www.vggallery.com/visitors/002.htm
 Religion quiz on Monday. Review all notes in Religion notebook and Chapter 4 in text book

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades 9/16 to 9/20

Dear Parents,
          Students in all classes have been having their daily assessments in both ELA and Religion but this Friday they will begin their weekly quizzes in all subjects.  An ELA Quiz will be given every Friday and Religion Quiz every Monday.  Test will be based on any notes in their notebooks, work covered in their daily assessments, and research or assignments done for homework.  Weekly quizzes consist of ten questions and the last one will most often require that the student write a paragraph of 6 to 8 sentences on a topic discussed in class.
         Please see below for this week's homework for each grade:

FOURTH GRADE
ELA 9/17  On looseleaf write full heading. Answer ELA Workbook p. 2 #1 to 10.  Each student is to make a diagram of their assigned constellation using silver or gold stars on standard size black construction paper.  Then they to research the mythological story related to their constellation.  For this information see http://www.tcoe.org/scicon/instructionalguide/constellations.pdf.  Write an outline on looseleaf so you are prepared to speak  or answer questions about your research on your selected constellation. 

REL 9/19 In Religion Workbook do p. 4 following directions in book.  In Handwriting book do p. 14.
Review ALL ELA notes well and research done for quiz on Friday.

THIRD GRADE         
 ELA 9/17 On looseleaf write a full heading.  Answer ELA Workbook p. 2 #1 to 8.  On another looseleaf write an outline on a personal experience you 've had with your family that you think you would want to pass on for others to read.  Be prepared to speak about it this week followed up by writing a personal narrative.

REL 9/19 In Religion Workbook do p. 5.   In Handwriting book do p. 46
Review ALL ELA notes in notebook for quiz on Friday.

SECOND GRADE

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Grades for 9/9 to 9/13

Dear Parents,
         Welcome to a new school year!  Please be sure that your child  have ALL  THEIR CORRECT SUPPLIES  listed on my August SUPPLIES  blog no later than Tuesday this week .  This is VERY IMPORTANT since I will be color coding composition notebooks, collecting folders, etc. on Monday and by Tuesday I plan to begin giving notes!   MOST IMPORTANT: Please be sure each child has THREE plastic folders (as sold in supply room) and TWO 100 page hard cover composition notebooks,  a stack of about 500 blank printing sheets (to be kept in school), THREE sharpened pencils with erasers, a pack of a dozen colored pencils, TWO large flat zippered pencil cases, and a looseleaf pad. The rest of the supplies can be brought in during the week.  Please send in  the forms distributed at the opening meeting including the two emergency cards  no later than this Wednesday. Keep the absent note form and make copies so you can use throughout the year. You should also keep the homework rubrics sheet.

          I will be assigning homework on TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS so assignments will be due on Wednesdays and Fridays. Homework will be done on looseleaf with a full heading or in a Religion workbook or Handwriting book. Several homework assignments will involve during research on the internet or in the  library. Homework assigned in the ELA Workbook will need to be done on looseleaf since students are NOT allowed to write in this book. This applies to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.  Any homework done on looseleaf must have a full heading as stated on the rubrics sheet you received and as was explained in class.

FOURTH GRADE
ELA 9/10 On looseleaf write full heading in script.  Answer ELA Workbook p. 1 Follow directions.
Do #1 to 11. DO NOT WRITE IN WORKBOOK!  Research about the Native American mound builders on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yg9ZXvulMQE  and

**The first weekly ELA Quiz  begins NEXT Friday!  Study ALL notes in ELA notebook.  All weekly quizzes consist of ten questions and the last one is always an essay question which requires the children to write out an answer in complete sentences.

THIRD GRADE
ELA 9/10 On looseleaf print a full heading.  Answer ELA Workbook p.1. Do #1 to O12.  Do not copy sentences; instead write S for sentence or F for fragment only. DO NOT WRITE IN WORKBOOK!  Interview someone in your home about relating an interesting family story you might want .to tell the class. This is in preparation for an upcoming assignment.  Write some brief notes on an index card if you like.

REL 9/12 In Religion Workbook p. 4. Write FOUR complete sentences to answer the question. Print.
Handwriting  9/12- In workbook do pp. 32 and 33 in script.

**The first weekly ELA Quiz begins NEXT Friday!  For this  quiz study Super kids Word Book pp.4, 5, 6 and know how to spell all memory words on p. 4.  Study any notes in ELA notebook.  All weekly quizzes consist of ten questions and the last one is always an essay question which requires the children to write out an answer in complete sentences.
