Review Religion  Notes for Final Exams for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th

Religion Final for ALL grades will be given on June 4th.  Third and Fourth will be taking the Archdioesean Exam.

FOURTH GRADE

* describing what happens in stories of forgiveness such as The  Lost Sheep or The Forgiving Father and explaining who the characters represent and what the parables teach us about God's forgiveness.

Dear Parents,
         Students will not be taking this week's  ELA Quiz until this Friday in order to finish up the final unit.  A brief study guide will be sent by Thursday. There may be schedule changes due to visit by a company that works with students on financial literacy on Tues. and the NYS Science Performance Test for fourth on Wed.  Necessary adjustments will be made. All teachers' study guides for FINAL EXAMS will be ready by June 1st.

on http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/adventures-of-isabel/  On white paper draw a picture vertically that shows the action described in the stanza you were assigned in class.  Under the picture explain IN YOUR OWN WORDS what is happening in that stanza. Glue your picture  and description on construction paper.

   (b)  Explain the lesson the parable is supposed to teach us.

   (b)  Explain  two ways that you , as a second grader, would obey this commandment.

FOURTH
 ELA  5/20 Read carefully the poem "Why Dragons?" by Jane Yolen on http://www.dragonsinn.net/Poetry/whydragons.htm . On loose leaf  under the heading,write a paragraph of about 6 sentences titled Comparing Book and Poem on St. George.  Give examples of  TWO similarities between what is described in the book and in the poem. Give example of ONE  difference.  Then  under the paragraph, skip a line and describe the rhyme scheme of the poem and give two examples of poetic devices used in the poem.
REL  5/22 Review all Ten Commandments and what each means for quiz Friday. Also review the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy and the Beatitudes. Review Jesus' Two Great Commandments and Jesus' New Commandment.




THIRD
ELA 5/20 Research information about ONE sport from the RECENT SUMMER Olympic games. Print out a picture of it, glue it on construction paper, and on the back place a 3x5 index card with 3 to 4 sentences describing this sport. Then research information about ONE sport from ANCIENT GREECE Olympic games, glue it on construction paper, and on the back place a 3x5 index card with 3 to 4 sentences describing this sport.  Be ready to compare and contrast these sports.
REL  5/22 Review all Ten Commandments and what each means for quiz Friday.  Review also Jesus' Two Great Commandments.



SECOND
ELA 5/20  Begin with  a heading.  Answer pp. 46 and 49 using the ELA Workbook on ONE sheet of
 loose leaf.  Use picture clues to figure out the answers on p. 46.  Write only the answers but be sure to
spell correctly and use capital letters and periods CORRECTLY.

Study Guide for ELA Quiz for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th for May 19

Dear Students,
         Reminder: There is an ELA Quiz on Monday.  It is important that all students STUDY (especially THIRD as the grades on recent past tests show a need for more review). Please refer to study guides below:

FOURTH
*Review following vocabulary: medieval, chivalry, dub, mount, feudal, vassal, peasant, page, squire, knight, noble. 
*Review the qualities demonstrated by knights being able to cite evidence from literature such as in St. George and the Dragon .

THIRD
*Read the entire book My Father's Dragon     YES, all ten chapters! Copy and paste this site on address bar : http://digital.library.upenn.edu/women/gannett/dragon/dragon.html.  If you have trouble, google the title of the book.
*Review the character traits of the different animals in the book.
*Review how each of  the items in  Elmer's knapsack were used to help each animal character in the book.
*Review how to summarize a chapter using the Somebody-Wanted-But-So strategy.

SECOND
*Review following vocabulary: adjective, line, stanza, rhyming words, alliteration, opinion, imaginary.
*Review how to identify the adjective in a sentence whether it is before or after the noun  (eg. Many girls came.  The sky is beautiful.
*Review when to use -er or -est as a suffix at the end of an adjective when comparing.
*Review how to write an imaginary story or fantasy.

Dear Students,
          Please read below your grade for this week's homework:


FOURTH
ELA 5/13 Google "reading passage on Robin Hood." Click on site (doc) www.wasd.org/cms/... Read and if possible print out the story about Robin Hood .
Read the follow-up questions and then highlight in the passage where you found each answer writing
 the number of the question next to each section you highlighted. Next, print out the sheet with blank
 lines (or do on loose leaf) and in a paragraph of 6 to 8 sentences write an introduction, follow the
 directions on the top citing evidence from the passage of these details, and end with a conclusion.
  Finally look up the meaning of the words in dark print.
REL 5/15 Religion quiz tomorrow! Study Religion notes under aim to review for Archdiocesan Exam.  Memorize the steps for making a good moral choice and be able to give an example of a difficult moral choice you've had to make.

THIRD
ELA 5/13 On a blank vertical sheet write the name of the chapter you were assigned from
My Father's Dragon  on the top of the sheet on http://www.digital.library.upenn.edu/women/gannett/dragon/dragon.html#4. Write your name on the bottom in the middle. Make a large frame under the title and make an illustration and color it. Then under the frame draw four lines with a ruler and write a summary in 3 to 4 sentences explaining what happens in the chapter. YOU MAY NOT COPY OR MAKE A PRINT OUT FOR THE ILLUSTRATION.   THE SUMMARY MUST BE IN YOUR OWN WORDS.

FOURTH
Be sure to review the DEFINITION of the following words covered in class and listed in your notebook:

THIRD
Review all notes on Aesop's Fables in ELA notebook including the Venn diagram.
Review the title and moral of each of the fables we studied in class (see notes).
Know the definitions of the following terms: fable, character, setting, plot, moral, problem, solution.
Review how to retell  fables separating beginning, middle, and ending.

SECOND
Know the definitions of the following terms: character, setting,events, problem, solution,, fantasy.
Know the meaning and how to use reflexive pronouns in sentences (eg. myself, himself, herself,  yourself, yourselves, ourselves, themselves).
Know how to distinguish the beginning, middle, and ending of a story.
Review how to create an imagined story.
Review how to create a suitable ending to a story that shows the solution to a problem.

Dear Parents,
       Please check below for this week's homework for each grade.

 FOURTH
ELA 5/6 Watch the video on http://ed.ted.com/lessons/what-makes-a-hero-matthew-winkler again and look at your ELA notes.  Think about what makes an individual heroic! On looseleaf write a heading. Write five different characteristics of what you consider a hero or heroine.Then choose a mythological figure and in a paragraph of six sentences explain what he or she did that that is considered heroic according to what is stated in the video. Some figures considered heroic are Heracles, Jason, Achilles, Odysseus, Theseus, Perseus, Agamemnon, Helen, Antigone.

REL 5/8 Religion Quiz on Friday on how to pray the rosary and on the Joyful Mysteries. Study the notes.

THIRD
ELA 5/6  Read the Aesop fable "The Ant and the Grasshopper" on http://read.gov/aesop/. Copy and paste this link on your address bar to read the fable.  On looseleaf  write a heading.  Write the fable title.  Write beginning, middle, and end  and write one sentence next to each to retell the fable in your own words. Then write problem and solution and write one or two sentences next to each explaining what these are.
