Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades for 9/29 to 10/3

Dear Parents,
         According to the last revised schedule, gym for third grade is on  Monday at 10:15  AND Wednesday from 2:00 to 2:45.  This Friday we have Mass for the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. As usual, students are allowed to bring in their pets to be blessed during the Mass. Please remember, however that a parent MUST be able to take the pet back home as soon as Mass is over.
         This Friday each home room began their PBL (Project Based Learning). The third grade class will be working on researching saints from France. This past Friday each  student was assigned a different saint to research and report on in  next few weeks. (The name is in their assignment book)
          As mentioned before, there will be NO quizzes this Monday. There will be a Spelling test on Wed. and an  ELA quiz on  Friday for all classes.  I have listed below the Spelling words  and the vocabulary definitions each class needs to know.
           PLEASE CHECK BACK DURING THE WEEK FOR ANY ADDITIONAL STUDY GUIDELINES OR ANY UPDATES!

FOURTH
9/30 Study for quiz on Wednesday.  Practice writing words  in script.
Spelling words:  problem, know, since, piece, told, stand, friend, complete, question, your

9/30 After you are assigned an animal in class, do research and on looseleaf write a heading and answer the following questions:
*What are the animal's characteristics?
*What is its habitat?
* Which are its usual predators?
* How does it defend itself?
* How does it adapt to its environment in order to survive?
Prepare to give a speech on Monday, Oct. 6 based on answers to the questions above. Bring in one or two pictures to use in your speech. Place each picture on standard size construction paper. Each picture should be  about as large as a sheet of looseleaf.
    

10/2 Study for quiz on Friday as well as any ELA notes given this week.

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th for 9/22 to 9/26

Dear Parents,
         There has been a change in schedule.  Gym now for third grade will be on Wednesdays from 2:00 to 2:45.  Art will be on Thursdays also from 2:00 to 2:45. Second and fourth graders should check with their home room teachers about their new gym schedule.

9/23 ELA On looseleaf write a full heading.  Answer Voyages Workbook p. 104 #1 to 10 (answers only) and p. 26 #1 to 5 (answers only) and #6 to 10 (compound sentences with the comma in place).

9/26 REL On looseleaf write a full heading. DO NOT WRITE IN RELIGION BOOK!  Answer ALL questions in Religion book pp. 54 and 66.  Use the front and back of the same looseleaf.  Write just the answers.



THIRD
9/23 ELA On looseleaf write a full heading. Answer Voyages Workbook p, 97 #1 to 5 and #11 & 12.  Write out each sentence using the comma correctly.
Also answer p. 109 #1 to 8.  Copy each title CORRECTLY.  Remember to underline titles of books  and use quotation marks around titles of poems.
9/23 HANDWRITING Do pp. 50 and 51 neatly!

9/26  REL On looseleaf write a full heading. DO NOT WRITE IN RELIGION BOOK! Answer questions in Religion book pp. 304 and 306.   For p. 304 write a paragraph of six sentences in your own words describing and miracles.  For p. 306 wrote just the answers.


SECOND
9/23 ELA On looseleaf write a full heading. Answer Voyages Workbook p. 56   (answers ONLY).
 Follow the sample sheet done in class today which is in their homework folder. NO SECOND  GRADER  CAN RECEIVE A SCORE OF FOUR UNLESS THERE IS A FULL HEADING AND WORK IS DONE NEATLY AND COMPLETELY!
9/23 HANDWRITING  Do pp. 18 and 19 neatly!

9/26 REL On looseleaf write a full heading. DO NOT WRITE IN RELIGION BOOK! Answer questions in Religion book pp. 41 and 42.
For p. 41 copy the five sentences filling in the blanks. For p. 42 write just the answers.

Study Guides for ELA and Religion quizzes for 9/22 and 9/23

Dear Parents,
         Since we did not receive any quizzes for distribution on Friday,  the ELA quizzes have been postponed till this Monday and therefore the Religion quizzes will be given on Tuesday.  Below is a reminder of what was on the previous study guide for ELA as well as the guide for Religion quiz.

FOURTH  
 ELA   QUIZ ON MONDAY:  Study all vocabulary definitions at the beginning of the Unit 1 notes.  Study all notes on the book And Still the Turtle Watched, the story "The Boy Who Wanted the Moon," and the poem "Indian Names."  Be able to explain the theme of each.  Be able to give examples of artistic license and personification. The review section will be on figuring out the meaning of words using context clues. 

RELIGION QUIZ ON TUESDAY.  Study all notes in Religion notebook as well Chapter 3 and 4 in the Religion book.  Know the definitions for conscience, examination of conscience, conscience formation, temptation, feelings, sin.  Memorize the steps for making a good moral choice (notebook). Be able to explain how we can feel sad for making a right moral choice  and how we can feel happy for making a wrong moral choice.


THIRD
ELA QUIZ ON MONDAY.    Study all vocabulary definitions at the beginning of the Unit 1 notes.  Study ALL notes on the book The Stories Julian Tells. Be able to describe at least two character traits  for each character and explain their motivation for acting the way they do. The review section will be on figuring out the meaning of words using context clues.

RELIGION QUIZ ON TUESDAY. Study all notes in Religion notebook as well pp. 296 to 299 in Religion book.
Know the definitions for  parable, faith, scripture, Resurrection, Kingdom of God.  Be able to explain what happens in each of the parables of the Kingdom:  "The Mustard Seed."  and "The Sower of Seeds." The later parable will be covered on Monday in class. Be able to explain what each parable means.

SECOND
ELA QUIZ ON MONDAY.  Study all vocabulary definitions at the beginning of the Unit 1 notes.  Watch the video again and study notes on the character traits of Charlotte, Wilbur , and Templeton.  Review how to correct run- on sentences. Review all parts of a letter including capitalization and punctuation in letter parts

RELIGION QUIZ ON TUESDAY. Study all Notes in notebook as well as Chapter 2 in Religion book. Know the definitions for unborn, elderly, and handicapped (reviewed in class), Resurrection, Pentecost, Church, apostles, disciples.  Be able to describe two ways the Holy Spirit helps the Church.

Study Guide for Religion Quiz on Sept. 15th

FOURTH
*Study all Religion notes in notebook and Chapter 1 in textbook.
*Know the definitions of the following words;  Blessed Trinity, holiness, Church, grace, disciple, apostle, image, free will, creation (see text book and notes for these).
* MEMORIZE the Sanctus  prayer in notebook.

THIRD
*Study all Religion notes in notebook and Chapter 1 in textbook.
*Know the definitions of the following words:  apostle, disciple, Blessed Trinity, Holy Family,  prophet (John the Baptist), Jesus  (name means "God saves), public ministry, Incarnation, repent, reverence (see text book and notebook),
.Be able to give four examples of what Jesus did during his life on earth.

SECOND
*Study all Religion notes in notebook and Chapter 1 in textbook.
*Know the definitions of the following terms:  Blessed Trinity: God as Father and creator; Jesus as His Son and our Savior; Holy Spirit as our guide and helper.

*MEMORIZE the Sign of the Cross which is a prayer to the Blessed Trinity

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades for Week of 9/8 to 9/12

Dear Parents,
         A reminder to all parents that all five forms and two emergency cards given out at the opening school meeting are due no later than this Friday as well as the form for breakfast and lunch at school.  The two test folders must be in school as well if you wish your child to take tests home.  I have already have all students recording notes in their notebooks this week.  Weekly quizzes begin this Friday.  There will be an ELA quiz this Friday and a Religion quiz this coming Monday for ALL classes. Religion books and new Grammar books have been ordered and are on their way!
           I will only be assigning homework on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so homework is due promptly on Wednesdays and Fridays; no extensions can be given so please make sure it is in on time.
          Please see below for this week's homework.  Make sure you check under the correct grade.

FOURTH   9/9
ELA On looseleaf write a full heading. Answer Voyages Workbook p. 1  #1 to 5  and # 9 and 10.

*recognizing the names of the four types of sentences
*knowing the ending mark needed foe each type of sentence
*distinguishing a sentence from  a fragment
* knowing how to correct a fragment by adding on to make a sentence
*review use of capital letters
*be able to write a letter with ALL FIVE letter parts including correct  use of capitals and punctuation
