Homework for Feb. 23 to 28 for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th UPDATED!
Dear Parents,
This Monday, Feb. 24th all students will be taking the weekly Religion quiz and please be aware there will be the weekly ELA quiz this Friday as well. Please see below for a study guide for the Religion quiz for each grade.
FOURTH Study Chapter 18 (Seventh Commandment), Chapter 19 (Eight Commandment),and Chapter 22 (Ninth Commandment). Be sure to study all key words in these chapters. Review what the eighth commandment states about keeping promises.
THIRD Study Chapters 16 and 17. Be sure to study all key words in these chapters. Review well the correct Mass responses on p. 205. Be able to explain what happens during each of the following: gospel, homily, consecration, communion.

ELA 2/25 Based on notes about the book of poetry titled Scranimals, create a name for an imaginary character of your own by combining the name of an animal and a plant (fruit or vegetable). On a 3x5 index card write the name as title and write a four verse poem with rhyme scheme A B A B and meter 3,3,3,3 about the animal. Then on a blank sheet (held horizontally) write the name of the animal on the top left and staple your index card on the top right. On the bottom write your name and draw/color a suitable habitat for your imaginary animal along with a drawing in it of what your animal might look like. USE YOR IMAGINATION!
Spelling word corrections (ten times each on looseleaf) along with the signed Spelling quiz are due back this Friday!
ELA 2/27 ELA Quiz tomorrow. Study all notes on Scranimals. Look up the meaning of all unknown words in the selections given, especially the adjectives. Study the rhyme scheme and meter of each of the selections. Study notes on the poem "Rhinoceros" by Ogden Nash. Look up the meaning of unknown words. Review the poem sample YOU created.

Then on the bottom draw lines and write three complete sentences describing your invention and what it does, Write your full name on the bottom.

Dear Parents,
The ELA quiz as well as the Spelling/ Penmanship quiz are rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 19th for each grade. Please see below for the study guide under each grade. I will also be retesting students on the spelling words below since they did not have enough of an opportunity to study for it the previous time. Please make sure that students review well now that they DO have the time (after Valentine, of course). THIS IS THE THIRD QUARTER AND THE LAST CHANCE FOR STUDENTS TO DO THEIR BEST. There is a full day of school on Friday-NO early dismissal!

Review coordinating and subordinating conjunctions and the difference between simple, complex, and compound sentences. Review the research you did on your creative or inventive person and be able to name examples of his work. Review writing introductions and conclusions.
On loose leaf write a heading. Answer the following questions in complete sentences. (Do not copy the questions!)
1.(a) Name and describe your favorite parable in 4 to 5 sentences.
(b) What is the lesson of the parable?
2. (a)Name the three Sacraments of Initiation.
(b) Describe one of THESE sacraments. Be sure to explain its purpose, people present, and symbols.
3.(a) Write Jesus' Two Great Commandments.
(b) Write an example of how you can follow each of these commandments.

For Friday's ELA Quiz study ff. terms: category, sequence, invention, diagram, label, time order words, instructions, directions. Review use of commas (see website). Review notes on writing a how to- paragraph including introduction, four sentences with time order words, and a conclusion.
The following will count as a project grade! Prepare a compare/contrast storyboard by taping two sheets of light colored construction paper side by side. Choose a commandment. Find and print a good picture (placing it to the left side) that shows how you obey the commandment. Write three sentences under the picture explaining how you obey it.. Then find and print a good picture that shows how you disobey this same commandment (placing it on the right side). Write three sentences under this picture explaining how you disobey it. Draw lines under each picture and write NEATLY using capital letters and correct punctuation and use complete sentences. Be ready to tell us about your work next Friday, Feb. 21.

IMPORTANT NOTICE for Mon., Feb. 10 for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th graders
Dear Parents, RECHECK FOR UPDATE!
Please be aware that there will be a Religion Quiz on Monday, Feb. 10 for all grades. Please see study guide below.
FOURTH - Know the meaning of all key words used in any of the commandments; eg. adultery, covet,... Be able to recognize any commandment by it number and recite it. MEMORIZE Jesus' two Great Commandments AND his New Commandment.
THIRD - Know the names of the THREE Sacraments of Initiation and the TWO Sacraments of Healing. Know the meaning of following vocabulary: saint, covenant, rite, parable, miracle, Annunciation, Assumption, Confirmation, Eucharist, Baptism.
SECOND - MEMORIZE all Ten Commandments and be able to associate each one with its meaning as shown on pp.112 and 115 in text book or in notebook. Practice especially the longer commandments such as the first. Study Jesus' Two Great Commandments.
This coming week there will be a 9:00 Mass on Tuesday. The Interim (on computer) test in Math will be on Tuesday and the Interim ELA test will be on Wednesday. Last week's ELA quiz will be given on Thurs. No quiz is scheduled for this Friday so far. There will be a bake sale on Thursday for students who wish to buy treats. On Friday students can wear some pink or red clothes; no nut card needed. We may have a pizza party on Friday for Valentine's Day. Students should bring $3.00 and their own juice. Any student who wishes may bring in Valentine candy such as chocolate hearts, cookies, cupcakes. Please do not send in any large cakes or big bottles of juice.

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades for Feb. 3 to 7
Dear Parents,
The final Interim test (on the computer for 3rd and up) will be given next week in both ELA and Math. All students should be reviewing their Unit 3 ELA notes recorded in their notebooks. Please see below for this week's homework for each grade.
FOURTH GRADE
ELA 2/6 Based on the book of FICTION you have been reading (as assigned last week), answer the following questions on loose leaf. Be sure the book is on the same animal for which you did your non-fiction research. Write a full heading and answer all questions.
*title and author of the book of fiction you chose to read
*type of narration (first or third person)
*animal character (name given to the character)
*two character traits that describe the animal character (citing evidence in text of animal displaying these traits)
*two examples of personification used in the text
* a synonym for the character
*an antonym for the character
*a summary of no more than six sentences using the Somebody- Wanted-But-So- strategy.
Somebody refers to the character. Wanted refers to what motivates the character. But refers to the problem the character faces. So refers to the solution to the problem.
REL 2/4 Prepare a four part story board: four pictures on construction paper or drawing paper with two or three sentences from the text book explaining different ways to obey ONE of the following : either the fourth, fifth, or sixth commandment. The pictures should be placed side by side.
THIRD GRADE
ELA 2/4 Watch the video on simple, compound, and complex sentences on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvhC0eSIb3g and study the lesson on comparing the sentences on http://www2.ivcc.edu/rambo/eng1001/sentences.htm . Then on loose leaf write a heading. Write a simple sentence about the creative or inventive person you researched. and label it simple. Then write a compound sentence about the person and label it compound. Finally, write a complex sentence about the person and label it complex.
REL 2/6 Print out Unit 4 flash card words, cut out and put on index cards with word on one side and definition, place in a plastic sandwich bag, label it Unit 4 and your name. STUDY!
