ELA Study Guide for Second Grade Final Exam

Dear Parents,
        The ELA Final Exam for second grade will include questions on work covered for the entire year which is divided into FOUR different domains. Each section will include questions on vocabulary, grammar skills, phonics, and some short responses based on readings.  Each class will also be required to write ONE complete essay of one paragraph  with an introduction and conclusion and some transition words OR one letter including all five letter parts. All students should review thorougly ALL past ELA quizzes/tests that will be returned to them on Thursday!  All students can also  refer to their ELA notebooks, Progress Book, and Phonics books.  Below is a detailed study guide for second grade:

SECOND GRADE

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th for May 30 to June 3

Dear Parents,
      Next Thursday, June 2nd ALL grades  will be taking their RELIGION FINAL EXAM, including second grade.  The third and fourth will take the Archdiocesan Exam and second will take a teacher-made exam. Scores on this exam  will appear on their report card and greatly affect their overall average in the subject. This past Thursday I reviewed responses to all quizzes and Unit 3 test and sent them home to be reviewed thoroughly.  In this way students will be familiar with the type of questions they might ask (such as Select ALL that apply and Part A/Part B).  All students should first consult the STUDY GUIDE  I posted weeks ago  (look for it under the pictures on my blog) and refer to review sheets stapled in their notebooks as well as review the vocabulary on the  website I listed and Unit 1 to 4  flash cards. On Thursday, after the Religion Exam, I will send home the ELA quizzs so students can prepare for that.
     Please remember to bring rosary beads on Tuesday for the May Procession at 10:00. Students who received First Communion this year should wear their communion clothes as they will lead the procession.  Please check back this weekend for any additional notices or homework. Thank you!

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades for May 23 to 27

Dear Parents,
        There is no school this Friday, May 27 and next Monday, May 30th. The Religion Archdiocesan Exam is being given to third and fourth grades on June 2nd and posibly second grade as well. I will be sending home past quizzes this week so students can begin to review the  types of questions that most likely will appear on the exams. I received an e-mailed  study guide only for fourth grade on specific areas to review which I will post below. Please be sure to review well all of these quizzes as well as the Study Guide I posted for all classes.  There will be an ELA quiz for all classes this Wed.  focusing on vocabulary and writing skills.  Please see below for a more details.

FOURTH GRADE

Format of the Fourth Grade Archdiocesan Exam:  The assessment will include multiple choice questions, matching questions, and a choice of one short response question. The response question will require the student to connect the content learned in religion class to lived experience.
Students should expect questions on the following topics:
    The Life of Jesus and the Church,  Trinity,  Beatitudes,   Sermon on the Mount, Ten Commandments,   God’s Covenant with Moses,  Solemnity of All Saints

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades for May 16 to 20

Dear Parents,
        This Friday Progress Reports will be distributed and we will have 12:00 dismissal. There will be a Religion Weekly Quiz on Wednesday for all classes. Due to early dismissal on Friday as well as scheduling for observation of Achieve 3000, the ELA Weekly Quiz will be postponed to next week.
       I'VE NOTICED THAT MANY STUDENTS HAVE BEEN CHECKING OUT THE RELIGION STUDY GUIDE ON MY BLOG.  I AM REQUESTING THAT ALL STUDENTS MAKE ONE PRINT OUT OF THE STUDY GUIDE BY NEXT WEEK AND BRING IT TO CLASS.

Dear Parents,
       This week students in second grade will continue other sections of the ITBS Exam.. Due to the Science Fair last week which affected all grades, once again work had to be rescheduled. Copies of the ELA Quiz were never sent so the Friday quiz will need to be given this week, hopefully on Monday.  I will be giving a Religion quiz this week as well based on the type of questions that were given on the 2015 Archdiocesan Exam. It is very important that all students CONSULT THE STUDY GUIDE I POSED LAST WEEK and study well any review notes stapled in their Religion notebooks. Vocabulary on the web sites listed are important as well and should be reviewed often! I have and will continue to give almost daily assessments on these vocabulary definitions. Homework for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Grades for May 2 to 6

Dear Parents,
        This week the second grade will be taking the ITBS Test on Tuesday through Friday.   On Wednesday we are having a Star Wars contest at 10:00. On Thursday we have Ascension Thursday Mass at 9:00 followed by Honors Assembly (based on the last report card). On Friday we have the Science Fair.  Needless to say there will again be changes in scheduling. Some lesson plans from last week had to be rescheduled due to the testing last week. There will an ELA Quiz for all classes on Friday. This quiz will cover vocabulary (listed in notebooks) and writing assignments based on their readings for Module 4 or Domain 11. Religion Quizzes will be based on questions from previous Archdiosean Exams in order to start preparing students for their final in early June.

FOURTH GRADE
PLEASE SEE STUDY GUIDE FOR  RELIGION FINAL EXAM ON SEPARATE BLOG!

ELA 5/3 Read Chapter 5 in The Hope Chest. Practice summarizing it.  Look for figurative language. Make sure you have read Chapter 4 as well!
REL 5/3 Study Chapters 19 and 20 on the eighth and ninth commandment. Also STUDY THE SHEET STAPLED IN NOTEBOOK TITLED REVIEW FOR ARCHDIOCESAN EXAM. Quiz and daily assessments will be based on these notes. Also be sure to practice all vocabulary terms on http://www.studystack.com/flashcard-258432   It is an excellent website for reviewing most important vocabulary terms! Next week we will be working on answering essay questions. There are sheets of these essay questions in your Religion notebook!

Then on  right side click on multiple choice under question format and then on  make new test. Practice taking the test as shown in class.   Another good website for studying vocabulary definitions is on http://www.studystack.com/flashcard-374942  Be ready for assessments on these!

ELA 5/5 Review vocabulary and all ELA notes for Module 4 for quiz tomorrow
REL 5/5 Study the Mid-term Review sheets stapled in your Religon notebook. Review all flashcard words and definitions for Units 1 to 4 on http://www.sadlierreligion.com/webelieve/index.cfm which should be printed out. Study Religion text pp. 288-289 as well on praying the rosary and the joyful mysteries of the rosary.
