Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Feb. 27th to Mar. 3rd

         This week we are beginning the Church season of Lent so we will have Mass this Ash Wednesday at 10:30. We are celebrating Hippie Day on Tuesday so children may dress up for this event. We will be celebrating Dr. Seuss' Day on Thursday and students may also dress up as characters from this author's  books on that day.    Progress Reports will be given out this Friday.  These must be signed and returned next Monday.  SINCE THE FOURTH GRADE WAS SPLIT UP DUE TO TEACHER'S ABSENCE, I WILL NEED TO GIVE THEM THE ELA QUIZ ON MONDAY.  SECOND GRADE WILL BE TAKING THE DOMAIN 2 TEST ON MONDAY.

FOURTH GRADE
2/28 Religion- Study Chapter 19 (eighth commandment) and 20 (Lent) for quiz next week. In the Religion notebook under the aim given in class copy each Beatitude and under each copy how to live that Beatitude from p. 35 in your textbook.  STUDY WHAT YOU COPIED!!!

3/1 Recent quizzes in ELA and Religion are being sent home today (two in each subject).  Please review them well, especially the writing section. Some students are failing to answer ALL parts of the question, or not reading and following directions correctly. I explained to them how extremely important this is! Please return all quizzes signed by Monday.
3/1 In Grammar Workshop study how to write a friendly letter and a business letter on p.216. Then on looseleaf write a full heading.  Read the directions on the top of p. 219 and choose to write either a friendly letter or a business letter including all five letter parts as shown.  The body of the letter must have 5 or 6 sentences. Be sure to follow the models on p. 216 (not 218-it has errors). If you choose a friendly letter the heading just only be the date.

THIRD GRADE
2/28 Religion - Study Chapters 15 (sacraments) and  20 (Lent) for quiz next week.

3/1 Recent quizzes in ELA and Religion are being sent home today (two in each subject).  Please review them well, especially the writing section. Please return all quizzes signed by Monday.
3/1 On  looseleaf write a heading and answer in Grammar Workshop pp. 210-211.  For p. 210 find SIX mistakes and copy these answers only correctly. For p. 211 write a letter with a date (only), greeting, body, closing, and signature. Follow directions on top. The  body should have 5 or 6 sentences. Tell the person when, where, and to what you are inviting them to go. Use ONE looseleaf.

SECOND GRADE
2/28 Religion - Study Chapter 17 (Liturgy of the Word) and 20 (Lent) for quiz next week.
2/28 ELA- On a sheet of standard size construction paper write the title of your project on the top and your name on the bottom. Then find on line pictures (in color is better) closely related to your project topic and glue these to the sheet, This will serve as the cover sheet for your project which will be completed this week. This is due no later than Wed.

3/1 Recent quizzes in ELA and Religion are being sent home today (two in each subject).  Please review them well, especially the writing section. Several students did NOT study their notes well enough in order to complete this part correctly.  Please return all quizzes signed by Monday. Progress reports are also due back on Monday signed.
3/1 On looseleaf write a heading answer Voyages pp. 78-79 (answers only).  Be sure to read the top of each page before starting!

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th for Feb. 20th to 24th

Dear Parents,
         Due to circumstances beyond our control, including MAP testing, Valentine rehearsals and show, and other matters that needed attention, some classes were not seen.  Second grade was able to take the Religion quiz but the third and fourth grades will need to take it on Tuesday, Feb. 21st. so please see below for review guidelines. Bullying curriculum will also be completed this week.

FOURTH
2/20 Religion quiz is rescheduled for Tuesday. Review Chapters 15, 16, and 18 on the 4th, 5th, 7th commandments. Be sure to know different ways to follow each of the  commandments as stated in the text book.  Also  memorize the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy and ways to practice each.

2/21 In Grammar Workshop read top of p. 115 and follow sample to do D #1 to 5. Also read top of p. 220 and on p. 221 do B #1 to 6. Answer all on one loose leaf. On IXL practice XX1 (prefix/suffix) and NN1 (dialogue).  Be sure to log in because I will be grading you on this IXL work!

2/ 23 ELA Quiz on Fri.  Review following vocabulary definitions:absolute, establishment, history, injuries, tyranny, usurpation, abolish, alter, destructive, government, institute, right.  Be able to explain whether different characters from Divided Loyalties would support or reject the ideas stated in the Declaration of Independence excerpt we studied and give text evidence of this based on what each character says. Review grammar skills above and review Phonics p. 52 (affixes)

THIRD
2/20   Religion quiz is rescheduled for Tuesday. Review Chapters 24 and 25.  Be sure you know ALL the key words and the Joyful and Glorious Mysteries of the rosary.  Be sure you are able to name all the prayers of the rosary and explain how to say them in correct sequence.

2/21 In Grammar Workshop read top of p. 212 and on p. 213 do B #1 to 5. On p. 230 do #1 to 8.  Answer all on one loose leaf.  On IXL practice U3 (adjectives) and JJ1 (dialogue).   Be sure to log in because I will be grading you on this IXL work!

2/23 ELA Quiz on Fri.  Review following vocabulary definitions: species, dominant, offspring, livestock, arctic, admiration, extinct, vulnerable, dependent, den, rendezvous, omega.   (DON"T PANIC- these definitions will be in your notebook by Wed.) Be able to explain the author's point of view on wolves based on text evidence in Face to Face with Wolves.  Review grammar skills above  and review Phonics p. 84 (r controlled vowels)

SECOND
2/20  On loose leaf answer the following three questions based on the topic of your assigned project.
1. What sentence can you think of to introduce your topic? 2.  What sentence can you think of that best describes or explains your topic?  3.  What concluding sentence can you think of for the paragraph on your topic?  On a sheet of blank paper draw and color a picture on your own that is related to your project.

2/21 On loose leaf write a heading.  In Voyages p. 164  do part A only.  Copy each pair as follows: couldn't--could not.  Do all 15 pairs the same way. Study these contractions. On IXL practice Y4 and Y5 (contractions).   Be sure to log in because I will be grading you on this IXL work!

2/23  ELA Quiz on Fri.  Review following vocabulary definitions: archer, custom, prosperity, conquer, venture, plateau, sorrow, durable, beggar, cork, scowl, praise. Study the multiple meanings of character, train. Be sure to review writing the steps for making silk using time order words. Review contractions  and Phonics p. 82 (hard/soft c &g)

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th for Feb. 13th to 17th

Dear Parents,
         This is a very busy week so it may be necessary to make many adjustments in the schedule.
Dismissal on Monday is at 12:00.  On Tuesday all students need to be dressed in red (pink and purple are also possible) for the Valentine's Day performance.  I will need to cancel the pizza party for second grade but students may bring in their own juice and one bag or package of Valentine treats to share, as discussed in class. Please check Mr. Woods blog regarding testing in ELA this week.
         There will be a Religion Quiz for each grade this week, most likely on Wed. and there will be a Social Studies quiz for second grade only on Thursday.  There is no school this Friday, Feb. 17 and Mon., Feb. 20 but homework will be assigned. Please check the blog during the weekend.
Religion homework assigned last Thursday will be collected on Monday so please make sure it is done.The homework due is listed below:
FOURTH: On looseleaf write a heading and answer p. 218 (just answers but be sure to rewrite false statements to make them true)
THIRD:  On looseleaf  write a heading and answer p. 306 (just answers)
SECOND: In the Religion text book answer p. 293 (top only)

2/14 Religion Quiz Thurs.  Study all notes on life (time line) of Moses stapled in notebook. Study Chapters 15, 16, and 18 on the 4th, 5th, 7th commandments. Be sure you know the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy this time!

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Grades for Feb. 6th to Feb. 10th

Dear Parents,
         If you have not done so, ALL grades need to refer  to my previous post "Important Notices ...See before Feb. 6th." Then please see below for this week's homework.

FOURTH
2/7 ELA quiz this Wed.  Please be prepared to answer questions about two two videos mentioned in the previous post as well as the vocabulary in notebook for Module 3B .  Please be sure to review Act  2 Scene 1 of the play and practice how to summarize. Study the following vocabulary:  act, scene, setting, cast (list of characters), dialogue, stage directions, text features (context clues to the meaning of a word), footnote (note at the bottom of a page defining a word used on that page)

2/9 Religion  Quiz next week.  Please study all notes on life (time line) of Moses stapled in notebook. Study Chapters 15, 16, and 18 on the 4th, 5th, 7th commandments. On looseleaf write a heading and answer p. 218. Write only answers but be sure to rewrite false statemens to make them true.

THIRD
2/7 ELA quiz this Wed.  Please review all notes including anchor chart with all facts about wolves stapled in notebook. Know the meaning of the followng vocabulary: predator, prey, pack, alpha pair, territorial, social, communicate, affection, aggression, lone wolf, habitat, endangered, extinct, livestock. 

2/9 Religion Quiz next week. Please study Chapters 24 and 25.  On looseleaf  write a heading and answer p. 306 (just answers)


SECOND
2/7 ELA quiz this Wed.  Please review following  vocabulary definitions from Domain 2:  cultivate, fertile, recede, source, represent, pious, contrary, resemble, grope, unjust, club (multiple meanings).  Also be able to distinguish the present and past tense of verbs including irregular verbs (eat/ate).  Be able to explain why "The Tiger, the Brahman, and the Jackal" is a trickster tale by giving an example from the story (watch video again). Be able to explain the lesson we learn from the poem "The Blind Men and the Elephant."
 On looseleaf write the heading Vocabulary. Choose five vocabulary words related to your  project topic (see list on previous post) and write each word with its definition. Then  write your name under your work. Please have a printout of some information on your project topic or a children's book on the topic in by Wed.  This was assigned last Friday so you should have had enough time to prepare!

2/9 Religion Quiz next week. Please study chapters 24 and 25. Answer p. 293 (top only)
2/9 SS- Lookup in the glossary and copy the word and definitions of the following vocabulary on the same page (or next page if you run out of room) for the folowing words:  Congress, representation, Supreme Court, planned community, White House, monument.

IMPORTANT Notices for 2nd, 3rd, 4th ! Please see BEFORE Feb. 6th


Dear Parents,
         There will be an ELA quiz on Wed. next week for all classes.

FOURTH
In order for students to have a better understanding of the play Divided Loyalties  which we are studying in class, I am asking that each students watch the following videos at home and come in ready to explain and discuss what they learned. This is also a type of research which is an important part of their work.  Be sure to watch the videos I've selected, which are
Boston Massacre  and   practice of tar and feathering.  Students should also review definitions in the notebook as well as  Loyalist, Patriot, rebel, pledge loyalty(or take loyalty oath), support a cause, independence (liberty), staunch, produce (goods), unruly.

THIRD
In order for students to have a better understanding of wolves to write both an informational essay and a narrative essay, students should study all the facts about wolves on the two sheets stapled in their notebooks.

SECOND
In order for students to have a better understanding of early Asian civilization, every student has been assigned a different topic for their project.  The name of  every student and their project is listed below.  The project will consist of five parts that must be completed within the next two  weeks.  This weekend students may begin to look up information on their topic.  Students should google "children's information on _____" and go to reliable sources or get a book in the children' s library.
Please have students bring in some print outs of information they found on Monday because the writing must be done in class.  Please see list below:
