Review Notes   for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th for Religion


Remember  Third and Fourth will be taking the Archdioesean Exam.

FOURTH GRADE
*Review thoroughly all definitions on www.studystack.com/flashcard-258432
*Review all definitions of words on flashcards for Units 1,2,3 & 4 on www.sadlierreligion.com
*Study all notes on three sheets stapled in Religion notebook titled: Archdiocese of New York: Grade 4 Exam Review.
*Study sheet stapled in notebook listing ten essay questions and be prepared to answer EACH part of every question.
*Study sheet listing the Beatitudes and explaining the meaning of each.

Be sure to memorize the following:
*each of the Ten Commandments (and specific ways in which YOU practice each of these)
*Jesus' s Two Great Commandments
*Jesus' s New Commandment
*the NEW Nicene Creed (in Church missalette)
*each of the Beatitudes (Sermon on the Mount)
*Corporal Works of Mercy
*Spiritual Works of Mercy
*Practical Works of Mercy (specific ways in which we practice these works of mercy)
*each of the five Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary
*the Stations of the Cross (text p. 329)
*the steps for making a good moral choice (listed on review sheet)
*the Sanctus prayer
*names of the Sacraments of Initiation, Sacraments of Healing, Sacraments of Service
*name of a saint and specific evidence of how he/she lived a life of holiness
*four steps of Reconciliation and how to prepare for it (examination of coscience)
*Advent season practices: Advent wreath, Jesse tree, setting up a Nativity scene, etc.
*different types of sins
*Lenten season practices: praying the Stations of the Cross, fasting, almsgiving, etc.
*dates and names of important feast days listed on review sheets


THIRD GRADE

*Jesus's Two Great Commandments
*names of the Sacraments of Initiation, Sacraments of Healing, Sacraments of Service

Homework for Easter vacation!

Dear Parents,                                            UPDATE: APOSTLES' CREED FOR 3RD INCLUDED
         Although I realize wholeheartedly that we are ALL looking forward to Easter vacation, please be aware also that some tests (like ELA State Test ) are scheduled  soon after students return and others will soon follow.  It is advisable that all students spend some time reviewing each day so they don't need to cram when they return.  Please see below for a guuide for each grade.

FOURTH GRADE

   For ELA study all notes in Journal notebook as well as all quizzes and tests in the test folder (except Spelling). Review answering the essential questions in the essay sections of the tests. DO NOT LOSE OR DISCARD THESE TESTS!
It is also advisable to practice sample questions from ELA State Tests for the fourth grade by clicking on the links above.

For Religion Archdiocesan Exam study ALL information on the two-sheet Review Notes stapled in the Religion notebook. Be sure especially to study the definitions of the following words:
presider's chair, presider or celebrant, sacristy, catholic, stewardship, Penitential Rite, the Offertory, the Consecration, the Dismissal Rite, deacon, lay person, religious brother /sister,
sacred vessels, tabernacle, sanctuary. Practice answering the essay questions on the review sheets.
Be sure to study Unit 1, 2, 3, and 4 definitions on printed out sheets in notebook taken from www.sadlierreligion.com.  Be sure to memorize the NEW Apostles' Creed (not one in Religion book)

Study ALL notes on the Review sheet stapled in the Religion notebook including definitions of all the vocabulary words and practice answering all parts of each sample essay question.

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades 3/18 to 3/22

Dear Parents,                                                  UPDATED!  NOTE CHANGES!
         This is our last week before Easter vacation. Our class Mass is on Tues. at 9:00. Dismissal is at 12:00 on Wed. and report cards will be distributed. Parent Teacher conferences will be from 2:00 to 7:00.  Honors will be distributed on Friday after Stations of the Cross about 10:30. 
         All students will need to bring a strong plastic or fabric bag large enough to store their books  no later than Thurs.  On Friday we may have a small party in the afternoon. Please send in two dollars by Wed. if possible to cover the cost. 
        THERE WILL BE NO WEEKLY QUIZZES THIS WEEK HOWEVER I STRONGLY SUGGEST REVIEWING THE WORK BELOW SINCE IT WILL BE ON GIVEN ON THE DAILY ASSESSMENTS AND GIVEN FOR CLASSWORK!  
PLEASE BE AWARE THERE WILL BE SCHEDULE ADJUSTMENTS THIS WEEK DUE TO MASS, COACHING OBSERVATIONS AND MEETINGS, REPORT CARD MEETING, HONORS ASSEMBLY,  etc.

FOURTH -ELA- Review ff. definitions: autobiography, biography, primary source, point of view, difference between first and second and third person narrations.  Review lessons learned about the challenge of achieving justice as demonstrated in  Patrick Henry's speech (Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death) and Soujourner Truth's speech (Ain't I a Woman?) - both studied in class.
REL - Study last  two sheets stapled in notebook especially vocabulary, Ten Commandments,  Beatitudes, Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, Moral Choice

THIRD - ELA - Review ff. definitions: preamble, constitution, prosperity, tranquility, welfare, defense, liberty. Review doing semantic mapping and acrostic poetry practiced in class using words and phrases related to the constitution.
REL - Memorize the Apostles' Creed and review extra definitions given in notebook besides those on sheets.

SECOND  - ELA - Review ff. definitions: narrative, opinion, introduction, conclusion, records (which give facts about a person's life), president, dictionary, and guide words.  Review putting words in alphabetical order by 1st, 2nd, 3rd letter.  Review written biographies on Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Tubman, and Ruby Bridges.
REL - Memorize the Act of Contrition and review all vocabulary definitions on sheets stapled in notebook.

Dear Parents,
         This Monday there will be Lenten confessions for THIRD grade at 9:30 and for FOURTH grade at 10:00.  There will be no school on Friday.  On March 19th, our class will be leading the school Mass so parts will be assigned this week to practice readings.
        RELIGION QUIZZES will be given this Monday also to all three grades. ALL CLASSES need to review the Unit 4 definitions on flash cards either in notebook or on www.sadlierreligion.com  as well as Relgion text pp. 232 to 243 on Lent and Triduum. Corrected Religion homework on p. 243 was returned for review.

FOURTH GRADE
ELA -Tues 3/12 Listen to Sojourner Truth's speech "Ain't I a Woman?" on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XilHJc9IZvE
 and read Frances Gage's  memories of her speech 30 years later http://womenshistory.about.com/od/sojournertruth/a/aint_i_a_woman.htm   On looseleaf write a heading. Then write two similarities and two differences you notice between the speeches.  Be sure to cite evidence.
REL - Thurs. 3/14 Study two  Review sheets stapled in Religion notebook for next quiz.

THIRD GRADE
ELA - Tues. 3/12 Look up synonyms in a dictionary or thesaurus for each of the key words from the Preamble to the Constitition listed in Journal notebook.  On looseleaf write a heading. Rewrite the entire Preamble substituting  words that make it easier to understand.
REL- Thurs. 3/14 Memorize the Apostles Creed on p. 111 and study Ch. 23 (pp. 260-268) for next quiz.

SECOND GRADE
ELA - Tues. 3/12  Research one of the following figures who will be assigned: Ruby Bridges,  Harriet Tubman,  Abraham Lincoln.  On looseleaf write a heading.  Write the name as the title. Write a biography of six to eight sentences about the role this person played on the slavery issue.  This means what did they believe, what happened to them, and  what did they do about it.
REL - Thurs. 3/14 Study Chapters 17  (pp. 196 -204) and memorize the Act of Contrition on p. 139.

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th graders 3/4 to 3/8

Dear Parents,
         Next Monday, March 11, third and fourth graders will be going to confession during class time so students should review notes on the Rite of Reconciliation including examining their conscience , knowing the Act of Contrition, and identifying the four steps.  Fourth graders study text pp. 70-73 and third graders study text pp. 212-213.

FOURTH GRADE
ELA 3/5 Use the time line generator on http://www.readwritethink.org/files/resources/interactives/timeline/// to list IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER and briefly describe FIVE main events of the American Revolution. Print out and bring to class.
Choose one of Ben Franklin's adages  by clicking on Ben Franklin's name on
www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/b/benjamin-franklin-8.html  On looseleaf write a heading, copy the adage that you selected and in six sentences explain what it means and in what situation you might use it.

REL 3/7 On looseleaf answer text p. 243 (just answers). Review text pp 70 -73 for confessions.
 SPEL 3/7 Study and practice writing in script next ten words  4D on list for quiz on Friday.
ELA 3/7  Quiz  tomorrow. Study ALL notes in Journal about American Revolution including all vocabulary.  Choose one of Ben Franklin's adages that is also an idiom and be able to explain what it means and when you would use it.

THIRD GRADE
ELA 3/5  Print out a Venn diagram on http://www.studenthandouts.com/Assortment-01/Graphic-Organizers/Blank-Venn-Diagrams-Instructions.html  Use it to list TWO differences and ONE similarity between any two presidents. Make sure each of your  differences is  based on the same topic.  See Journal for a sample.

 SPEL 3/7 Study and practice writing in script next ten words  3D on list for quiz on Friday.
ELA3/7 Quiz tomorrow. Study All notes in Journal about the presidents including vocabulary.  Review how  to write a bio poem about the president you researched.

*your first, middle, and last name
*your nickname
*your birth date

*two things you like to do
*two things you don't like
*family members living in your home
*something special or interesting thing about you
