·         * On the Pearson site  read any of the ten leveled readers I have assigned for Unit 1  (all on animal theme).

·        * Work on consecutive pages in Universal handwriting workbook.

·        * Watch any of the videos I assigned on discoveryeducation.com

·       *  If parent is available or child can read,  work on “Guided Instruction” pages in the Math Progress workbook

*** I will offer further options by next month.

Homework and Notices for Week of Sept. 28 to Oct. 2

 Dear Parents,

Workbooks are available for pick up this week for remote learners.  There are in total seven so far.  These are one Religion, one Math, one Reader's Writer's Journal, two Phonics, and two Handwriting.  Please bring a sturdy bag to pick them up. These workbooks are already downstairs by the office.  I will distribute these workbooks to in-class learners on Monday.  Four of these workbooks will be for daily class use and three will be used mostly for homework assignments. It is possible that one or two more books might be available for pick up in the coming week.  There will also be an additional packet of sheets starting Monday.

All students, both in-class and remote learners, should check their child's email on google classroom for their login information (username and password) for google classroom (for assignments and quizzes), pearsonrealize (for Reading), discoveryeducation (for Science and Social Studies) and a Math link.  All of these have been sent to you.  I will be sending one more for Religion this weekend.

Any quizzes posted on google classroom need to be done ONCE ONLY-- TOGETHER DURING CLASS TIME. If a student is not present during class time, they ARE NOT ALLOWED to take the test on their own later.   Parents are ONLY to assist their children in giving directions on HOW to enter responses using the computer but not in their school work.

****I will starting posting assignments for workbook pages by Wednesday so please try to pick up all workbooks by then. You may come any day from 3:00 to 4:00.

I will be posting homework on a daily basis on google classroom.  Homework is due the following day and grades will be recorded for each assignment. So for example, Monday's homework posted below is due on Tuesday

Homework for Mon. Sept. 28

*Science - Study the vocabulary definitions on the page in your packet for a quiz this week.

*Social Studies- Study the vocabulary definitions on this same page in your packet for quiz this week.

***Please pick up the seven workbooks and new Math packet before this Wed.

*Mass tomorrow, Tuesday at 9:00 for all students so the schedule must be adjusted.

****Please see school blog regarding rules for all remote learners!

Homework for Week of Sept. 21 to 25

 Dear Parents,

I had to keep the index cards I prepared for the in-class learners because tomorrow morning ALL students (in-class and remote) will practice with me logging on to google classroom now that the chrome books are ready for use.  THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT AND NECESSARY!                                                         Today, as I was about to give out the index cards, I noticed that several students either had the wrong folder  or NO FOLDER AT ALL.  The folder MUST have a transparent pocket in the front and in the back so I can insert the cards with  important log ins they will be using this year. In this way the card will be safe because students don't need to take it out in order to see it.   The folders with only the two pockets inside will NOT work because the cards will slip out and be lost.  So the first homework assignment is TO BRING THE CORRECT FOLDER TO CLASS. I will not be able to give out any cards or papers UNLESS students bring in this type of folder.  They are available in the school supply room. If your child brings in a dollar, I can also give you one if necessary.                                                                              Please remember to pick up the new packet which are on the table by the school office.  I left them for you today.  All remote learners should keep all their packets you  in a folder so pages are not lost.                       The homework for this week is to study the vocabulary definitions for Stellaluna on the Reading sheet and the Science vocabulary which is on the back of this same sheet.  You may also study the Religion notes for Chapter 1 (front and back).  You may also review the Math lessons we have completed which are Lessons 1 to 6.  Assessments will probably begin next week.  Prepare for them--start reviewing.  You have the notes you need.

Important Notices for Week of Sept. 21 to 25

 Dear Parents,

As noted on the school blog, this Friday, Sept. 25, dismissal will be at 12:00 noon.  When checking my google classroom, I noticed that all remote learners HAVE accepted my invitation and so you are all in and ready.  However, three of my in-class learners have NOT.  It is very important that you do that this week because I have sent some important links there last week and have also sent your username and password for www.pearsonrealize.com so have access to our Reading program.  I also sent the link for the Eureka Math student workbook for Module 1. You will need both in order to follow what we are doing in class and to review for any upcoming assessments.                                                                On Monday, I will place an index card in the folder of all in-class learners with the www.classroomgoogle.com    username and password and the www.pearsonrealize.com  username and password.  I will send you the Math link as soon as you accept my invitation to google classroom.  PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR CHILD"S FOLDER.  If you are still having trouble please see me at dismissal.                                                                                                                                          This past Friday, although I needed to be absent, I came to school to leave a folder with hard copies so that student copies could be made over the weekend. If they are ready, you will be able to pick them up this week.                                                                                                                                                         I will continue to use the slides and the same packet this week.  Please keep all your child's work in a folder including the packet with all completed pages and additional work done in class.   I  will be posting some homework this week which will require studying certain pages in your packet.                         Until further notice, student lunch period is from 12:45 to 1:30 and since it is also lunch period for all teachers, I will not be in the room at that time. A reminder to all remote learners that they should be in class mode. Students should be sitting up in a stationary chair in front of a table and with all their materials beside them. I should be able to see their faces at all time during instruction.  Thank you to all parents for your cooperation and patience during this difficult time.

Notice to Parents for Sept. 18

 Dear Parents,

As I explained  yesterday in zoom, I will not be able to conduct class this Friday. This is  due to an important personal matter that needs to be taken care of during business hours in the morning.  Since I live a distance from the school, Mr. Woods asked that I take the entire day off to take care of the matter. Class will resume on Monday for both my in-class and on-line learners, God willing.  Please have a nice weekend.

Saturday, September 12, 2020

Important Notice to First Grade Parents:

 Dear Parents,

Most of you have accepted my invitation to google classroom which includes ALL of  my remote learners (thanks).  However, it is also important that all my in person learners accept this invitation as well.  Six of you have not yet accepted my invitation.  For all of you who have responded I have sent your username and password for our Reading program:  www.pearsonrealize.com . I assigned the book Stellaluna.  as well as Lesson 1 of the Readers's Writer's Journal so you can view at home. Pages will be done in class.  In the journal you need to click on Menu on the top right in order to go to the next page. You will not be able to see these till 9/14 Mon.

I also sent you the link for the on-line Math workbook for Module 1.  I will also be sending one for our on-line Religion program by next week.  Just in case we must all go remote, it is very important that you all  are ready to use google classroom in order to continue instruction because this is where I would be posting assignments as well as communicating with you.  Please be sure that you use only mssaville@olqmnyc.org to email me and I will respond using  your child's email on google classroom.  I want to make sure this works for all of us.

Hopefully all remote learners have picked up the packet I left on Friday at school near the office.  If not, please try to do so as soon as possible.  I plan to use it this week with all students.  In-person learners will receive their packets on Monday.  These packets should ONLY be used during class time! I cannot provide extra copies so please take care of them.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Information for Upcoming Week: Sept. 14-18

 Dear Parents,

Before I left school today I prepared the packets for all our remote learners.  The packets include two emergency cards, five forms to be signed, a parent handbook (which you keep), a set of student worksheets for all subjects, as well as a useful name tag which should be kept for daily class use.  Mr. Woods informed me to leave these on a black table near the main office downstairs. There is a rubber band around each student's set of papers.  You should come to pick these up tomorrow.  Look at the name tag on the front of each set to choose the one that belongs to you.

I remind you that students should NOT do any of these worksheets. Keep the name tag and the set of student worksheets for daily class use.  Those of you who are attending in person will receive your set of sheets on Monday but I will keep these in class so I can correct them and ensure they are not lost.  I CANNOT MAKE ADDITIONAL COPIES IF LOST SO PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOUR SET OF COPIES.

Those of you present in person will find a cubby outside our classroom with a plastic box to keep extra markers, glue sticks, items not being used at the moment.  Later you will store your coats there as well. Students NEED to have sharpened pencils and either crayons or colored pencils for daily use.  MARKERS SHOULD ONLY BE USED OR THE PERSONAL WHITE BOARD.

Please order the personal white board from AMAZON for $4.99. I believe the one with the blue handle would be fine (as mentioned before).  You may also choose a different one if you wish.  Just make sure it is durable, double sided, and has a handle.

Below I am printing the daily classroom schedule I was presented.  Adjustments may need to be made due to circumstances that arise.

8:00 -8:15   Prayer / Pledge / Anthem

8:15-9:00    Religion

9:00-10:30   Math

10:30-12:00    ELA:  Reading/Grammar/Phonics

12:00-12:30  Student Lunch Period

12:45-1:30    Teacher Lunch Period

1:30-2:15   Science or Social Studies

2:15-3:00  Daily Walk

3:00-3:15  Prayer /  Dismissal

*Exception to this schedule n on Fridays: Daily Walk is 9:45 to 10:30  and Math has two sessions: 9:00 to  9:45 and 1:30 to 2:15.

School is closed tomorrow for students so teachers can meet  to discuss and plan many matters, including google classroom.

Have a nice weekend.

A Few Reminders

 Dear Parents,

Thank you for your patience today as we make adjustments. I am still getting used to a new smart board as well as the new technology involved in teaching in person and remotely at the same time.  There was also a connectivity issue with the new board that came up.

I gave out a set to each child today which includes  a parent handbook (which you keep), TWO emergency cards and five sheets that need to be signed and returned to school.  It is VERY IMPORTANT that you sign and return the "Daily Health and Self-Screening..." sheet and the emergency filled in (front and back) as soon as possible.  The others can be sent in later if you wish.  Parents of remote learners must come to pick them up at school tomorrow.

I collected the loose leaf paper packs, construction paper, and cleaning materials to be stored in the classroom.  Students kept all their other materials.  A few students did not have a folder to put their important papers; other children had TOO many folders.  Please have your children bring in only ONE folder with clear panels in front and back as well as two bottom pockets inside.  Children also need to have all pencils SHARPENED and ready to use.  Colored pencils also need to be sharpened at home. Dry erase markers can only be used for their personal white board.  All packages should be opened at home and supplies placed in their pencil cases.

I noticed that eight of you have not yet accepted my invitation to google classroom.  It is important that ALL STUDENTS accept this invitation, even those of you in person in class, just in case we all need to go remote.   I will be posting assignments there in a few weeks just to make sure.

Please go ahead and order the personal paddle board white board for your child from Amazon.  The Quick Response White Board with blue handle for $4.99 seems fine.  If you  prefer something else, that is fine just as long it is about the same size, double sided, has a handle, and is durable.

Since permission has not been given for books to be distributed yet, I did prepare packets of worksheets in all subjects.  However, all the sheets were stapled together back to back in random order.  I ask that when parents of remote learners pick up these packets,  PLEASE WAIT till I assign the work during class time. Then I will let you know which sheet your child should work on.   DO NOT  have your child work on these on their own.

ALL students must have ONE folder,  3 sharpened pencils with erasers, and crayons or colored pencils for tomorrow.

A reminder that there is no school on Friday so that teachers can meet to make further plans.

A Look Ahead

 Dear Parents,

It was a pleasure meeting most of you via our zoom meeting on Friday and I want to welcome those I have not yet met.  Regarding your questions,  I  checked out the personal white boards on Amazon and ask that you wait before ordering. I will let you know Friday, Sept. 11 about ordering it as well as letting you know of any other updates.  You may definitely buy dry erase markers and a dry erase eraser. Please try to have all your child's supplies ready by Mon., Sept. 14.

I have set up a username and password for each student for the Ready Gen program so that you will be able to access the books we will be using on-line as well as  the other ELA resources it provides. I will provide this information either by email or on the blog in a few days.    For the Eureka  Math program I sending you this info so that you can view the student workbook we will be using, but I ask that you do NOT have your child try to do work ahead of time. You may copy and paste the following on your address bar:

 https://1.cdn.edl.io/oKNgJG2dvSBahoJuNaxpB0upw1vvuB3VVPO6uIQ0BokNqwtr.pdf

I want to remind you that it is very important that if you send in a lunch or snack for your child, it MUST be something they can handle independently. Students should also have a  small zip lock bag in which to store their masks while they are eating. Students must keep socially distant during lunch (especially since they are not wearing their masks) which  means remaining in their seats, not interacting until better circumstances allow for it.

Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend!

First Grade Supply List for 2020-2021

 Dear Parents,

I want to welcome your children to first grade!  Below is a list of supplies your child will need.

* a set of masks --one that a child can wear  comfortably throughout the day
*large zippered 2.5 gallon plastic transparent Hefty bags. Parent should buy a pack and send in only one at a time . It must be able to hold all of the child's supplies needed for daily use.  Please make sure it is the zipper type child can manage easily.
* three plastic folders (transparent pocket in front and back and two bottom pockets inside) - NO binders. First would hold blank loose leaf. Second would be for child's daily work and study notes. The third I would keep as the child's test folder.  Label each ONLY with child's first and last name.
* two pads or packs  of loose leaf paper (paper with holes on side and red margin) wide ruled
* four or five pencils with erasers   PENCILS MUST BE SHARPENED AT HOME!!! (NO mechanical pencils or pens)
* a pack of  12 to 16 crayons or a pack of colored pencils (sharpened and ready for use)
* a sharpener with a cover
* a pack of dry erase markers dark colors (black and red are best) (NO Sharpies or similar permanent markers)
*  a dry eraser eraser

****It was decided that students should not have notebooks this year.  All work will be done on loose leaf or sheets distributed in class (or in packets  picked up by parents for those that chose all remote learning). It is EXTREMELY important that each child have ALL their supplies daily since NO sharing is allowed this year for health reasons due to corona virus. Each child will need to keep all their supplies in their own large zipped up hefty bag (mentioned above)

***I will be ordering a personal white board for each child to be used especially for math.  I will let you know the price after school opens.

UPDATED Important Notices for Week Of April 6 to 10

Dear Parents
Just a reminder that school is in session three days this week and then on Thursday our Easter break begins.THERE WILL BE A HALF DAY SCHEDULE ON WED. SO WE ARE DONE AT 12:00.   There will a Performance Based Writing Test on Monday which concludes  Unit 3 Module A and a Math End of Module Test on Tuesday which concludes Module 4.
After the break you will need the Math Module 5/6 workbook to continue assignments. On my last days at school I brought these new set of workbooks downstairs and parents were informed that they could come to pick them up at the school  If you have it, then you are ready.  For anyone who was not able to pick it up, I did some research so I could provide you with a  link to this site It is:

 * Mr. Woods said that first grade parents are no longer allowed to come in for workbooks.  This link also provides many Math resources to help parents understand the Eureka Math program.

I will also be assigning on www.discoveryeducation,com two Math videos which will help students continue their practice in learning about money, which we were working on just before we left school.  These are similar to the one on place value I assigned last week, which someone commented they liked.
I am giving you this information now so that you have time to look ahead and prepare for the upcoming school work after the break  As for your concerns about any logins that are not working, I have already informed the coach and  am awaiting any further replies on this matter.

In regard to grades, marks for students' daily work and tests (since the pandemic) have been entered on Educate so they can be included on your report cards.   Educate is always turned off for parent viewing during report card time; however the grades have been entered.  As of yesterday my report cards have been completed and submitted to Mr. Woods for review.  Only today's Math test cannot be included for now.  Report cards should be mailed to you within a few weeks.  I did send a few test grades to you by email using google classroom to see if that works but my main focus for now was to have them all entered on Educate so they could be included on the report cards.

I want to thank every parent for their patience and cooperation in this matter and I want to wish you a healthy and peaceful  Easter.  Please do not be concerned, our class is doing fine!

Update on Class Assignments for March 30 to April 3

Dear Parents,
I did research over the weekend and hopefully came up with a plan that may work better for you as well as for me.  I will still keep to the schedule in posting each subject's assignment and be available for assistance.  However, instead of having students post their answers as before, I prepared ONE Classwork  google form on which students can list all their responses for Religion, ELA (Voyages, Phonics, etc) and Social Studies/Science.  Math is the only subject which will still require sending two photos as before.
So as I post assignments students may do their work in a notebook and then transfer all  of their responses to their individually named google form  (or keep it open if possible). In this way all the day's work will be neatly and safely kept in one place for me to access each day. This will also help parents who must turn in a student' s work late out of necessity.
I also plan to do quizzes this week in a similar way.  I will be assigning only one quiz each day starting Tuesday. Each quiz has eight multiple choice questions and one written response and all are based on work that we have covered. Also,  I will let you know on the previous day what students should study in order to be prepared for each quiz. Each quiz has a due date so it can only be seen on the day it is assigned.  Parents should make sure that each student DOES NOT have access to any books or notes and DOES NOT get help in answering questions.  Parents are only allowed to read questions to their children when and if it is necessary as I have done in class.   I will always let you know in cases when reading to a student is not allowed.
I will be assigning only the most important lessons in Math this week (skipping some lessons that repeat the same skill) so that I can complete Module 4 before the Easter break.  I am completing Unit work in the other subjects as well, but without a need to skip any lesson.
I hope this will help relieve some of the stress we are all suffering and we can look forward to our Easter break next week.

***Please make sure you send me the two photos for the Math daily to my e-mail.   As I checked under your name, I noticed a few were missing even though you were with me in class this morning.  Send the photos as soon as you complete the pages, if possible, so you don't forget.

Revised Schedule for First Grade

This is a new revised schedule we can begin tomorrow which still fulfills all time requirements:

8:30 to 8:45   Attendance and Daily Messages  or Updates
8:45 to 9:30     Religion
9:30 to 11:00    Math
11:00 to 12:15    ELA
12:15 to 1:00    LUNCH
1:00 to  1:45    Science or Social Studies
1:45 to  2:30   Teacher Prep Time  (Students do 20 minute session on Success Maker

*** Mr. Woods stated yesterday that he wants students to continue working on Success Maker for 20 minute periods each time.  This is the minimum amount of time that is required for each session or the program won't work correctly.  The schedule for Success Maker is ELA sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Math sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays.

****If  parents CANNOT be with their children during class time due to emergency situations, you may send the work for the day whenever you can during the day as long as it is before midnight.  I had called several parents and informed them of this.  However if your child is present during the class period, I am asking that the work be completed during the class period time so the student can move from one assignment to the next and I can address any concerns about what you are doing on that assignment. I hope this clears up any misunderstandings.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING STUDENTS' WORK

Dearest Parents,
I appreciate your efforts and cooperation in sending your children's work to me.  I spent several hours reviewing the extensive entries in my email. In order to make things more manageable for you and for me, I need to make a few important requests.

*Please send any photos to this e-mail ONLY:   mssaville@olqmnyc.org ---not the one I use as a faculty member.  Limit your messages  to what is most important.

*Do not send any more photos of past work.  Starting tomorrow I will be checking only the present day's assignments.

*When you log on to www.classroom.google.com tomorrow at 8:30 be sure you are using the school code:  42qiscw.   Do only the assignments I have scheduled and please make sure each subject 's assignment is completed and sent within the time given in the schedule.  Only the Math homework should be sent after 1:45.  I will assign less so all can complete on time.  This is important to keep things manageable and grades can be entered on time.

*DO NOT send work or information I must download.  I  can't risk running out of storage space.

*Please put the subject and page number of anything you send-- not just done.

*Finally, I must change how I check the Reader's and Writer's Journal pages because when I try to check the work, Pearson web dash starts to download the whole book!   So--I will be choosing a few questions from each Lesson in the journal and posting them under Classwork for you to answer and post on google classroom. We will do only one lesson each day but it must be completed within the period as is required in class.

* I phoned several parents today who did not log into classroomgoogle yet to find out what was wrong and hopefully now you have all the information you need including your username and password for www.discoveryeducation.com.  If you don't, please let me know at 8:30 tomorrow before I start the day's lesson.  Please everyone don't be late!

I must make these requests in order to make this work for all of us in these hard times!

LATEST UPDATE!!!!

Dear Parents,
It has been decided that we are no longer allowed in the school building.  So....I will no longer be able to come in to collect workbook pages as I did today.  I have worked very hard setting up other options for you. After consulting with various people, it has been agreed that the best  solution under the circumstances is that you take a photo of the workbook pages  I assign each day and send them to me on google classroom.  This is most important with the Math.  Reading components can be done using www.pearsonrealize and Science and Social Studies can be done using www.discoveryeducation.com  It is NECESSARY that you log on to google classroom every day at 8:30 so that I take attendance.  THIS IS MANDATORY!  I will be available every day from 8:30 to 1:45 on googleclassroom to communicate with you and your children.  I am having zoom meetings with the faculty before and after this time every day and am expected  to correct work and enter grades after 1:45 so I CANNOT be available then.
I will continue to put weekly assignments on the blog as well as a schedule of subjects we will covering each day so you can be ready with the correct workbooks when we start tomorrow.  Please work with me doing assignments on a DAY TO DAY basis so I can correct and enter grades on time.  I I will begin with only one or two pages a day in each subject.  The only daily homework will be in Math.  Please be ready to take a photo of any workbook assignment I give and send it to my e-mail:  mssaville@olqmnyc.org  so I can check it and then enter your grade on googleclassroom.  It was decided grades will be 3 or 2 for assignments and 70, 80, or 90 for tests.
I will be using exclusively the blog, googleclassroom, www.pearsonrealize, and www. discoveryeducation.  I will put the username and password for www.discoveryeducation.com for each student on google classroom since each student has a different number. You will be able to watch videos on this site and then I will post questions based on the video on google classroom.

Our daily schedule will  be as follows:
           8:30 Religion
           9:15 Math
           10:45 ELA
           12:15 Social Studies or Science
            1:45 MUSIC

Please have your children ready with students' workbooks at 8:30 tomorrow and your phone to take pictures if possible so I can make sure all can work with me on this.
We have two weeks before our Easter break!  Let's do our best!

Saturday, March 21, 2020

ANOTHER UPDATE

Dear Parents,
Since the office is going to be closed on Sunday and  traveling is being restricted, I will be going in on Monday and during the week (if allowed) to pick up any assignments I have given last week that  your children have completed in any of their workbooks.  Just tear the pages and place them in a folder with your child's name and grade.  Please remember that Math workbooks for Modules 5-6 are available in the office.  All Reading assignments however can and will be done using the Pearson website.  This includes the trade book for the lesson, the Readers' Writers' Journal pages, leveled readers for practice, and the Decodable books for the Vanilla group. If you log in to www.pearsonrealize.com  and enter your information, you will see that these have been assigned already.  The leveled readers are:  I Have a Dollar, At the Market, A Healthful Meal, Which Way Is Better, and Trading This for That.  For next week, I will continue to list work that can be done in the workbooks you took home.
I am also sending you our class code for google classroom.  You will need to go to www.classroom.google.com and enter the username and password your child received on the sheet on the last day of school.  Click on the + sign in the top upper right, enter the class code: szfcien and click on join.  Once you do that your child's name will appear on my first grade class list and I will be able to send assignments that I can then see on-line.  To see how this works you can watch the you tube video on google classroom explanation.  I will be checking to see if names are showing up.  If you have lost the sheet, I have a copy for each student.  On Monday I can offer further directions if necessary.   I will also give you further information on www.discoveryeducation.com as it can be used as another on-line resource and each student has a username and password for this as well.
Please check the blog on Monday afternoon for any other updates or new decisions to be made at school regarding your child's instruction.    Thank you for your patience and consideration in these difficult times.  God bless you.                                                                 Ms. Saville

IMPORTANT NOTICES FOR PARENTS REGARDING NEXT WEEK

Dearest Parents,
I have not posted anything as of last week because I was waiting for decisions to be made at school regarding assessing students' work.  I want to thank all parents who were able to have their children complete their on-line work in the Readers' Writers' Journal using the Pearson website.  It is important that your children remember to click on save for each page and also click on turn in when done with each lesson. There were nine students who did not begin the assignment and some who did not complete it yet.  Please try to complete them by this Sunday.
For now it has been decided that all lower grades including first grade will be receiving a packet of worksheets to be done by students during the week.  Starting this Monday, March 23 parents may pick up their packet in the school office.  It is NECESSARY that all students complete the work within the week so that grades can be recorded on Educate on time.  I will be coming in to school on Sundays (if it is possible due to the circumstances) to pick up the completed work packet, grade them, and record grades.  I will also leave the new assignments for the following week so parents can pick up the new packet starting again on Monday.  This will be the procedure until Easter vacation which begins on April 6.
I am also requesting that parents tear out the pages from the  Math workbooks (pp. 49 to 53 and 57 to 60) assigned last week so I can correct and grade them. Please do the same with Voyages pp. 112 to 115. Please staple, place them in a folder with your child's name and grade and leave them in the office.
Love to all my students and their parents.  Please stay well!         Ms. Saville

***In order to continue to help students with their writing, I will be giving every student a sight word list which is to stay in the back panel of their folder at all times.  I strongly recommend that you make a copy to keep at home.  Starting Monday I will be assigning 20 words per week (about 5 words a day). Students will need to recognize and know how to spell each word. I will have  a Spelling Bee once a week on these words and record responses as a grade. I also want students to be able to refer to this sheet when they write until they become familiar enough with the spelling of these sight words.

***On Monday we are celebrating Dr. Seuss Day.  Students may dress up as one of his character.

***FINALLY due to SO.... many students coming in every day without their supplies including especially sharpened pencils with erasers and dry board erasers, I will be listing students' names on Monday and entering a 2  for "being prepared for school" on the report card.

It is extremely important that students pay attention to directions and LEARN TO NOTICE DIFFERENCES like changes from 8 to 9.  If students keep repeating the same type of errors over and over, then my correcting their work daily is of no use.  Students need to learn from mistakes, not keep repeating them! Please review their work whenever possible.
***Ms. Alma asked that you consult her blog to review the song students are practicing for their upcoming performance.
