Homework for Oct. 29 to Nov. 2

Dear Parents,
         Hopefully you read the Halloween notices I posted on the blog last Friday!  If not, please go back and do so--it is important! Please send in $5.00 for the party no later than tomorrow if you have not done so. This Thursday we will be have Mass at 9:00.  As I stated before, there will be a Math quiz on Tuesday based on Lessons 24 to 30.

Homework for Oct. 29
Math - Do pp. 153 and 154. Match means to draw lines from each story to correct set of number sentences.  Review for Math quiz tomorrow.
Phonics-  Do pp, 17, 18, 19, and 20.

Homework for Oct. 30
Math- No Math homework tonight.  I am sending home sprints done in class. Review them to see where you need improvement.  Leave them at home.
Phonics - Do pp. 21, 22, 23, and 24.

Reminders for tomorrow: Children are to wear their costumes to school.  Each student should bring their own juice containers, a hollow pumpkin or trick or treat bag, one bag of candy to distribute to the Pre K and K classes, and another treat to share with the class.  I already ordered the pizza and bought the chips.  No weapons and no electronics are allowed.  Students are to bring their book bags with their Phonics books so I can check the homework!

Homework for Nov. 1
Math - Do pp. 157 and 158.  Follow the samples on the right side.
Social Studies-  On loose leaf write a full heading as shown below.  Answer Thinking About Words section in textbook p. 68.  Copy each sentence adding the correct word in each blank. Then study the meaning of each word for an assessment tomorrow.

Homework for Oct. 22 to 26

Dear Parents,
         There will be a Science Quiz this Wednesday on Chapter 2 on text pp. A42 to  A53. On Wed  in Religion we will be doing the Safe Environment Curriculum and discuss appropriate and inappropriate touching and taking precautions with strangers. All picture money is due to Mrs. Resto in a sealed envelope no later than Nov. 5th.

Math - Do pp. 133 and 134 in the workbook.

ELA- Study the next set of words on the Dolch Sight Words list. Students should recognize the word quickly--with no sounding out --and know how to use each word in a sentence.. The words are:

Be ready to read aloud the five leveled readers assigned last Friday on    www.student.pearsonrealize.

Math - In workbook do pp. 137 and 138.
Science- Study text pp. A42 to A53 for Science quiz tomorrow. From those pages read and study about all of the following:  predict, seedling,  root,  fruit, flower, pod, pit, bean plant, pine tree, George Washington Carver.   Be able to write about what all plants need to live.
Social Studies-  On loose leaf write a full heading.  Answer 4  questions from textbook  p. 59..

Homework for Oct. 25
Math-  In workbook do pp. 145 and 146.  Label each .   Look at first one as sample.

Science- On blank paper write your full name at the bottom.  Write Apple Tree on the top. Read textbook p. A56 question #2 and follow the directions. Label the stem as trunk. Next to the tree draw an apple cut in half  and label what is found inside. Grade is based on how you follow directions!!!
Do NOT answer question #1.


Homework for Oct. 26
Math - In workbook do pp. 149 and 150.  Be sure to follow directions. Look at the sample!
Study exit tickets 24 to 30 and all homework pages from  Lessons 25 to 30 for quiz on Tuesday.
The exit tickets are stapled together but not in order/

ELA-On the pearsonrealize web site click on Text Collection and read over the Frog and Toad story "Dragons and Giants" that we studied in class.  Also study the vocabulary definitions below which are in your notebook.  There will be a quiz on MONDAY!

* mountain - a hill with a peak
*snake - a reptile that slides
* together- both, with a partner, opposite of apart
* desert- a hot, dry land
* cactus- a prickly desert plant

In order to give parents time to prepare for our Halloween celebration on Wednesday, I am listing some important information below.
            I need each child to bring in $5.00 by Monday since I will be ordering pizza for the class (two slices each) and bringing in different bags of chips for the party.  Each student will need to bring in their own small juices (no glass).  Please do not send them in with money to buy since they must stay in class. Also NO big bottles are allowed.  Each child will also need to bring in TWO bags of treats . One should be a bag of individually wrapped candies to give out to our  PreK and Kindergarten classes which will be parading down the hall in the morning.  Our class will be  lined up giving out treats to them-one at a time.  The other bag is to share with our own class-which can be cookies, chocolates, candy, etc. No need to send in more than these two bags.Small  cupcakes are allowed also if you wish  but NO big cake that needs to cut.
          Each child should wear their costume to class.  Makeup and masks are allowed but NO weapons of any kind.  We will be playing Halloween games of all type that day and NO homework will be assigned.  Each child will need to bring in a trick or treat bag or a hollow pumpkin --first to hold candy to be given out and then later to take home candy for themselves. Students will wear their costumes home.  Students are NOT allowed to bring in any electronics that day.

Homework for Oct. 16 to 19

Dear Parents,
         This is just a reminder about the quizzes scheduled for this week.  On Tues. students will take the Writing Test based on Stellaluna and on Wed. there will be a Math Mid Module Assessment based on Lesson 11 to 24.On Tuesday all exit tickets will be sent home for review.  PROGRESS REPORTS WILL BE SENT HOME ON THURSDAY!  THESE WILL NEED TO BE SIGNED AND RETURNED  ON FRIDAY.  AFTER CHECKING THE SIGNATURE, THEY WILL BE RETURNED TO YOU. On Fri. expect a Religion Quiz on Chapter 3.
        For the Writing Test, students will need to write two complete sentences-- each one describing an event from Stellaluna.  I will provide a word bank with words they can use and then ask them to draw a picture about each event and write a sentence for each picture describing each event. The first will be about how Stellaluna and the birds met and the second will be about Stellaluna showed friendship  to the birds.  You can still reread Stellaluna on line on www.pearsonrealize.com
        If possible, please have you child bring the seed sample they were assigned since we have Science Lab on Tuesday. If they don't remember which one they were assigned, have them bring in any seed sample they can.  Students should also bring in their bean seed sample on the wet paper towel if it has sprouted.

Homework for Oct. 16
Math - In workbook answer p. 116 only.  This is so you have time to study the exit tickets 11 to 24 for the Math quiz tomorrow. Please note that on Friday's homework many students received a 2 for incomplete work.  The directions clearly states "find the TOTALS" which was not done!  BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE,  READ THE DIRECTIONS!!!!

***I checked the freckles program Monday night and noticed that several students have NOT practiced anything at all.  I remind you that it is necessary that EVERY STUDENT do some practice work in the freckle program --both for Math and ELA.  This on-line practice is very important in preparing your children for upcoming MAP testing!!!

Math- In workbook do p.117.  Solve means to write the totals. Practice means to study the facts.
Phonics - In green workbook do pp. 9, 10, 11, and 12.

Homework for Oct. 18
Math - In workbook do pp. 121 and 122.  Follow work done on previous two pages as a guide.
Religion- Answer ALL questions in workbook p. 54 including the bottom one. Study Chapter 3 for quiz tomorrow.

***Parent, please sign Progress Report.  After I check the signature, it will be sent back home.

Homework for Oct. 19
***Parents, please look in your child's folder for MAP test results attached to the Progress Report if your child brought it back signed.
Math- In workbook do pp. 127 and 128.  Practice using the number line-hopping to the right to count on to add and hopping to the left to count back to subtract.
ELA- Begin reading the next five leveled readers on www.pearsonrealize.com  Click on assignments to see these titles:     Animals of Africa,   My New Pet,   Animals Grow and Change At the Pond,   A Very Big Animal.  On Tuesday students will begin reading these in class and answering questions .

Next week there will be a Science Quiz on Chapter 2  text pp. A 18 to A 53.

Homework for Oct. 9 to 12

Dear Parents,
         We have two events this week. On Thursday at 10:30 first grade will attend a Fire Prevention Presentation by one of our former students--now a fireman.  On Friday there will be a Hispanic Music Presentation  at which our first graders will sing and to which parents are invited.  There will be a Religion Quiz on Chapter 2 on Wed. Also on Wed. I will begin calling  on students to read one of the leveled readers in class and answer questions so make certain you have read ALL five books.
          Please remember to have your child bring in their Test Folder on Tuesday with all quizzes inside signed. They will be kept on file.
            This week I will give students their class code for www.student.freckle.com so they may begin practicing Math and ELA skills on line.  I suggest doing Number Facts  area in Math and the Decodables and Sight Words areas in ELA to begin.  Please allow your child to work on these INDEPENDENTLY so child can work confidently at his level and we can monitor his/her progress.

Homework for Oct. 10
Math- Do workbook pp. 105 and 106.  Read and follow each of the directions carefully.
Science - In workbook read pp. 22 and 23. On looseleaf write a full heading. Answer questions 3 and 4 in simple sentences. Do this simple activity at home using a bean seed and be prepared to bring in the bags next week.

Homework for Oct. 11

**Tomorrow all students should wear dress up clothes for their musical performance at 9:00. Parents are invited!
 **Parents, please look for the picture envelope in your child's folder.  Please write child's name, fill in all needed information, and put the correct amount in the envelope.  Please give envelope to Mrs. Resto  in the supply room in the morning. See below for tonight's homework.

Math - In workbook do p. 110. First, fill in all the blanks with the correct totals. Next, draw a ring around each number sentence. Then, follow steps 1,2, and 3 in the directions and color OUTSIDE EACH RING making sure the number sentence and total are not covered.

Social Studies - On loose leaf write a full CORRECT heading.  Then answer the two questions in textbook p. 47.  Answer both in complete sentences.  For those who had trouble writing a correct heading, this is the  format beginning in the top space next to the red margin on the side where the holes are:
