Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades for 1/6 to 1/10
Dear Parents,
Thank you very much for your kind gifts at Christmas. I appreciate your thoughtfulness very much. Please check this month's calendar and be aware that Mid Term Exams are scheduled for next week beginning with the Writing Essay Exam in ELA and Religion on Monday. Progress Reports will be sent home this Friday and Report Cards will be distributed on January 30th. We have 12:00 dismissal this Friday.
Please check under the correct grade for this week's homework:
FOURTTH G RADE
ELA- 1/7 Bring a print out of Sojourner Truth's speech "Ain't I a Woman?" and Patrick Henry's speech "Give Me Liberty or Give Death." (if possible) Highlight in yellow or underline in pencil in both speeches evidence they give to defend their position or point of view on how they have been treated unfairly. Then on looseleaf write a paragraph for each person explaining their point of view. Google Patrick Henry' s speech . Then google Sojourner Truth's speech.
REL - 1/9 Print out and STUDY all Unit 1, 2, and 3 flash card words and definitions found www.sadlierreligion.com. On looseleaf write a heading. In text book read any TWO chapters on any TWO commandments. Write two paragraphs explaining how you would follow each of these commandments as a fourth grader.
THIRD GRADE
ELA -1/7 Bring in your research (print out) on the sea animal you were assigned in class. Be sure it is in language you can understand. A book is also allowed. On looseleaf write three sentences describing the animal. Be sure each sentence has an example of an adjective(written in red) and an example of an adverb (written in blue).
REL - 1/9 Print out and STUDY all Unit 1, 2, and 3 flash card words and definitions found www.sadlierreligion.com.On looseleaf write a heading. Write a paragraph explaining what happens in the sacrament of Baptism and another paragraph explaining what happens in the sacrament of Reconciliation. There must be six sentences in each. REMEMBER IT MUST BE IN PARAGRAPH FORM.
SECOND GRADE
ELA -1/7 Based on the graphic organizer done in class (see notebook), on looseleaf write a heading. Then create a graphic organizer with FOUR different categories. Using research on the animal assigned in class, list TWO different examples under each category.
REL - 1/9 Print out and STUDY all Unit 1, 2, and 3 flash card words and definitions found www.sadlierreligion.com. Study Chapters 11 and 12 on Reconciliation. Be sure you know three ways to prepare for Reconciliation, the four steps of Reconciliation, and the entire Act of Contrition. Study the Ten Commandments on pp.112 and 115

Welcome back! The holiday is over and it's soon time to return. In the following three weeks we will be completing Unit 3. The January Mid-term Exams will cover Units 1, 2 and 3 in both ELA and Religion. Please have students review the following to prepare for the work in the coming weeks.
FOURTH GRADE
ELA - Click on the following link http://www.funbrain.com/roots/index.html and practice rooting out words only under the heading SIMPLE. Be sure to begin with the tutorial and then continue with the easy, medium, and hard in that order. An assessment will be given on this next Tuesday.
By the end of next week students will also need to be writing opinion essay expressing their point of view on events occurring the American Revolution. Their point of view MUST BE BASED ON ACTUAL EVENTS DURING THE REVOLUTION that caused them to have that opinion. Students will need to read first and third person narrations on the subject. Students will need to read ONE of the following books by Jean Fritz: Can't You Make Them Behave, King George? or And Then What Happened, Paul Revere or Where Was Patrick Henry on the 29th of May? or What's the Big Idea, Ben Franklin? Students can then base their opinions on research they have done on one of these historical figures. Students can also use on -line information for further information.
RELIGION - Be sure to have printed out all Unit 1, Unit 2, and Unit 3 flash card words from www.sadlierreligion.com. and be sure to review all definitions for upcoming assessments. I will begin working on essay questions when students return and give additional definitions.
