Homework for Jan. 21 to 25

Dear Parents,
          Please remember to send in the four last quizzes signed no later than Wed.  This Friday marks the end of the second quarter so all grades must be in before report cards.  This week there will be a Social Studies quiz on Wed. and a Science quiz on Thurs. I will post during the week the pages to study and/the vocabulary words they should review.
         There may probably  be a Religion quiz on Jesus' miracles on Fri. since we are preparing our Religion Fair exhibit for next week on this topic.

Homework for Jan. 22  
***Please send in all four tests signed by tomorrow!
Math- Do workbook pp. 8, 9, and 10.
Social Studies -  Quiz tomorrow.  Study text pp. 104 to 115.  Know the meaning of the following vocabulary words:
 *landforms: plain, hill, mountain (Know definition of each.)
*water  bodies: ocean, river, lake (Know definition of each.)
* seasons (fall, winter, spring, summer)
*weather (Two places can have different weather at the same time.)
 *directions (North and south are opposite. When facing north, east is  right and west is left.)
*order ( For example, things can be put in order by time or size.)
***Choose a season and think of something you enjoy doing only in that season.

Homework for Jan. 23
Math- Do workbook pp. 15, 16, and 17.

Science-  Quiz tomorrow.  Study textbook pp. B34 to B53.  Be sure you know the habitat of the all the animals shown in the pictures, such as forest, desert, ocean, pond. Also be able to name the animals in the pictures that show different ways to stay safe, such as rolling into a ball and hiding in holes.  Also be able to name other things that keep animals safe such as color and shape.

Homework for Jan. 24
Math-  Do workbook pp. 21, 22, and 23. Use the cm side of the ruler. USE THE SAME RULER WE USED IN CLASS.
Religion- Quiz tomorrow!  Review sheets on Jesus' miracles.  The test will be based on what I  explained in class for the past two weeks!   Hope all students were listening!!!!

Homework for Jan. 25
Math- Do workbook pp. 27, 28, and 29.  Use the same cm ruler.  Read all directions!
ELA-  Quiz on Mon. on The Recess Queen.  To find the the  story go to the Pearson website, click on Text Collection  and read the second story. Read it at least twice.  Then study all the vocabulary definitions below.

Copy the following words and definitions on the next page in your notebook.  Start with the title only, NOT  with your name or a heading.

Homework for Jan. 14 to 18

Dear Parents,
        There is 12:00 dismissal this Monday.  On Tuesday the class is scheduled to have the MAP Math Test.  On Thursday students will take the End of Module 2 Math Test as well.  On Friday student will take the Reading Test based on the book A Fine, Fine School  (interactive) which I reassigned on line so you can review it this week. Please remember to have your child bring in the progress report signed . Once I check the signature, you can keep it.

Homework for Jan. 14
Math - DO NOT DO THIS TILL I TEACH THE LESSON.  Do workbook pp. 121 and 122. Look at previous two pages for a model.
***Go to Math Practice and work on ALL areas on freckles website except Financial Literacy. The pretest determines which level you are should be working on.

Homework for Jan. 15
Math- Do workbook p. 105 ONLY #1 a to f.  Leave word problems for tomorrow! It is Lesson 25- the one we skipped.

ELA- On the next notebook copy the following words and definitions. Then study them for an assessment tomorrow. Begin with the title below:

ELA- Study the vocabulary definitions for A Fine, Fine School in the notebook.  Also read the book on the Pearson website so you will be able to answer questions about the book.  Test tomorrow!

Homework for Jan. 7 to 11

Dear Parents,
         This is a reminder to all students who have not given me their homework from the three leveled readers on www.pearsonrealize.com  that it must be in by Monday at the latest.  Another reminder that this Wednesday all first graders will be taking the MAP Reading Test in the morning! On Friday Progress Reports will be sent home.  These must be signed and returned on Monday.

Homework for Jan. 3rd and 4th

Dear Parents,
         Welcome back!  I want to thank you all very much for your thoughtfulness at Christmas time.  I appreciate it with all my heart!   Just a reminder that all students should bring their homework of the responses at the back of the three books from www.pearsonrealize.com. on Thurs. or Fri. at the latest.
Also please remember to send in all the quizzes signed and stapled together if possible.
           According to the January schedule, first grade will be taking the MAP Reading test THIS Wed., Jan. 9th and the MAP Math test on Tues., Jan. 15th.  Hopefully, you have been practicing both skills on the freckles website!!!  I will be giving the Grammar quiz I mentioned before the holiday on Wed. or Thurs.

Math -  Do pp. 89 and 90 in workbook. Please follow directions:  If incorrect, show how to do it correctly using the SAME strategy,  If correct, use a DIFFERENT strategy to show how to get the same answer. (for example, take from ten  or counting on)

***Please send in the set of quizzes I sent home before the holiday signed by tomorrow.  Also please send in the answers to the reading questions from the three books on pearsonrealize website.

Homework for Dec. 17 to 20

Dear Parents,
          Please remember to bring in $5.00 on Monday for the pizza party if you have done so.  Also please remember to send in a strong plastic or fabric bag to pack up books, and ONE Christmas card.
A reminder that this Monday there will be a Social Studies Quiz and a Math Quiz on Tuesday.  On Wednesday students should wear some combination of red and green clothes for Lessons and Carols.  The children doing the play will have to change clothes in school.  The children in the play will have a final practice 9:00 Tuesday morning. Please refer to Ms. Alma's blog for any information about the performance.  Below I listed the homework  for the entire week including for the vacation.

***Bring in 2 or 3 individual juices and your treat for the class.
***Get all quizzes signed and return them after the vacation. Keep them stapled together!
There are 3 Reading Tests, 1 Writing Test, 2 Phonics Quizzes, 2 Math Tests, 2 Social Studies Quizzes, 1 Science Quiz, 1 Religion Quiz, and 1 Grammar Quiz. Please check for all these!

Homework for Dec. 19
***All students have their books packed up in the back cabinets.  I told them to take home only their folder with their tests to get signed  and their Voyages ELA book because they will have a Grammar quiz on the Monday, Jan. 7--first quiz for the new year! It will be based on pp. 48 to 58. Students have also written their Christmas cards and these will be delivered tomorrow around the school!

ELA- On the pearsonrealize.com  website log on with your username and password.  Read ALL five books listed:  My School Off to School,  It's Time to Get in Line Let's Be Fair!  At School.   Then on loose leaf write a full heading and answer all questions in the back of any THREE books. Answer in complete sentences. Use one loose leaf for each book.

***I strongly recommend that you continue practice ELA and Math on the freckle website since all students will be taking the MAP test in January!!!!!  Students should also be answering the follow-up questions for each non-fiction article. In Math click on Math Practice and work on ALL the different skills (except Financial Literacy).  I will be monitoring on line the work that students are doing.

Homework for Dec. 10 to 14

Dear Parents,
         This is a reminder about quizzes this week.  Reading quizzes to complete Unit 1 will be given this week as well as a Science quiz on Wednesday and a Social Studies quiz on Friday. Students have completed their class Advent wreath and this week will learn about creating a Nativity scene and listen to certain Bible stories related to the symbols on our Jesse Tree.  These are all Advent practices in preparation for Christmas that students need to learn. Next week I will send home another set of quizzes to be signed.  Please don't lose them in the Christmas frenzy.

Math- Do workbook pp.65 and 66.  Follow the top sample we did in class.
ELA-Practice writing sentences describing how an animal sleeps. Practice writing question and answer on what an animal can do with its feet. For the test I will select an animal for them.

Math - Do workbook pp. 69 and 70.  Read and follow ALL directions!
Science- Study ten vocabulary definitions in notebook and text book pp. B22 to B25 for quiz tomorrow.

Social Studies- Study text book pp. 74 to 83 for quiz tomorrow!  Know meaning of following words: job, goods, services, volunteers, needs, wants, shelter, spend.  Be able to give examples of some needs all people have.

*** Next week students will have two final quizzes before vacation: On Monday there will be a Social  Studies Quiz on text book pp. 84 to 95 and 99.  On Tuesday there will be a Math quiz based on exit tickets 12 to 20.  I will send exit tickets home on Friday. On Wed. morning there will be Lessons and Carols in church and then a Christmas pizza party in the afternoon.  Please send in $5.00 for two slices, chips, and candy.  Students will need to bring in their own small juice containers and ONE treat to share with the class.  We will discuss these in class. Next week I will also send quizzes home to be signed and returned. PLEASE DON'T LOSE THESE.  Yes-- there will be vacation homework but nothing overwhelming!

Homework for Dec. 14
Math - Do workbook pp. 83 and 84.  Be sure to study corrected exit tickets 12 to 20 for quiz on Tues. as well as corrected homework pages for those same lessons.

Social Studies- Study text book pp. 84 to 95 and 99 for quiz on MONDAY. Know meaning of following words: transportation, subway, penny, nickel, dime, quarter, coins, bills, mint, sort, picture graph,  symbol, pounds. Be able to explain how transportation helps people.

***Please send in $5.00 for pizza party no later than MONDAY if you have not done so yet.  Also please send in a medium size fabric or strong plastic bag to pack up students' books in the cabinet for the holidays by Monday also. For Wed. please remember to send in at least two individual juices for your child and ONE snack we discussed  to share with the class.  Also, please have your child bring in ONE Christmas card in an envelope on Monday and choose someone in the school (outside the classroom) that they want to write to.  We will do the writing in class in letter format. Homework for Dec. 3 to 7

Dear Parents,
         This Friday there will 9:00 Mass to celebrate the feast of the  Immaculate Conception. As stated last week. there will a Mid-Module Math Test this Tuesday and a Writing Test on Wednesday based on the two books mentioned on the  pearson website.  This week I will keep assessing students' oral reading and comprehension on the non-fiction articles on the freckle website.

Math - Do workbook pp. 47 and 48.  Review all eleven corrected exit tickets for quiz tomorrow, as well as corrected homework pages from those same lessons.
Science-  On loose leaf write a full heading.  Answer two questions in textbook p. B25 in complete sentences.  Be sure to begin with capital and end with period.  See below for sample heading.

ELA- Study books on www.pearsonrealize.com for writing test tomorrow Time to Sleep and What Do You Do With a Tail Like This?   (this second book is found in Text Collection)  Students will need to write one question with its correct answer about an animal in EACH of these stories. Students will be required to write complete sentences that make sense with correct use of capital letters and use question mark and period where neeeded in eac sentence.
