Homework for Feb. 11 to 15

Dear Parents,
         This Mon. all students should be dressed in full school uniform. Just a reminder that there is an End of Module 3 Math Test on Monday and a Social Studies Quiz on Tues.  as mentioned last week.  On Wed. students should dress up (in red, pink, purple) for their Valentine Musical Presentation at 9:00.  Parents are invited. On Thurs. we will have our Valentine party in the afternoon.  Please bring in $5.00 by Wed. I will provide two slices and different types of chips. On Thurs. all students should wear red and each child should bring in their own juices (at least two) and ONE bag of any Valentine candy or treat for the class. There will NO SCHOOL on Friday, the 15th or Mon., the 18th. I will be assigning the five leveled readers on www.pearsonrealize over the weekend.

Social Studies-  Study for quiz tomorrow text pp. 116 to 127. Students should be able to distinguish which is a continent (7) , which is a country (3), and which is an ocean (4). Be sure to study Using Skills section on p. 139. Practice writing out the answers to the top three questions using the map.

Science- On loose leaf write a full heading. Answer two questions in textbook p. C9 in complete sentences. See heading sample below.

Homework for Feb. 14                                       Happy Valentine's  Day!
Math- Do workbook pp. 13 and 14.  Answer EVERY question.
ELA-  On www.pearsonrealize.com  look up and find the following Unit 2 leveled readers:            The Class Play,  Election Day, We Have Rules, Off to School We Go, and The 100th Day of School.  Read ALL FIVE books.  Then on three sheets of loose leaf I provided,  write a full heading (see below) . Then choose THREE of these books and answer all questions found in the back of  each book in complete sentences.  DO EACH BOOK ON A SEPARATE SHEET..  Be sure to put the title of each book under the heading.

Homework for Feb. 4 to 8


Dear Parents,
         This Monday at 2:00 we will have a prayer service for the feast of St.  Blaise.  All students will have their throats blessed.  On Tuesday  there will be a Math quiz  on measurement.  It will be based on exit tickets 1 to 9.  There will also be a Religion quiz on Friday on Chapter 8.

Homework for Feb. 7
Math- Do workbook pp. 67 and 68.  Read carefully! This is the end of Module 3, so there will be an End of Module Test on Mon. on Lessons 10 to 13. Exit tickets will go home on Friday.

Religion- Study Chapter 8 for quiz on Friday.  Students should also practice writing TWO complete sentences (no more than that)  about ONE of Jesus' miracles that we studied about for the Religion Fair.
***Please look at corrected vocabulary assessments I sent home.  Many are NOT reviewing well!
***NO DRESS DOWN TOMORROW EXCEPT FOR THE BIRTHDAY GIRL!
They WILL  be allowed to have pizza for lunch for National Pizza Day!

Homework for Feb. 8
Math- Study corrected Exit tickets 10 to 13 for End of Module Test on Monday. Review also Exit tickets 1 to 9 . You may also review the corresponding homework pages I corrected as well as the Math test on measuring.

Social Studies- On loose leaf write a full heading (see below). Copy each word and definition for vocabulary words in textbook p. 138 Thinking About Words  #1 to 10. There will be a Social Studies next week on these words. You can also review  pp. 116 to 119.

Homework for Jan. 28th to Feb. 1st

Dear Parents,
          This Monday we have Open House from 8:30 to 11:15 if you wish to visit our class. Then on Wed. at 9:00 we have our Religion Fair and again you are allowed to visit.  On Friday dismissal is at 12:00.  Report cards will be distributed and Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Math - Do workbook pp. 34-35. Write a complete statement that answers each question on p. 35.
ELA- In Voyages answer pp. 70 and p. 74.  Read directions  FIRST!

Math- Do workbook pp. 39  and 41.  Follow ALL directions carefully! After you cut out the paper clip strips, put both neatly in the back panel of your folder.  Tape or staple p. 41 back into your Math book so it does not get lost.

ELA- Writing Test tomorrow based on the character Tilly from A Fine, Fine School and Katie Sue from The Recess Queen  explaining how they both behave in the classroom.

Homework for Jan. 21 to 25

Dear Parents,
          Please remember to send in the four last quizzes signed no later than Wed.  This Friday marks the end of the second quarter so all grades must be in before report cards.  This week there will be a Social Studies quiz on Wed. and a Science quiz on Thurs. I will post during the week the pages to study and/the vocabulary words they should review.
         There may probably  be a Religion quiz on Jesus' miracles on Fri. since we are preparing our Religion Fair exhibit for next week on this topic.

Math- Do workbook pp. 8, 9, and 10.
Social Studies -  Quiz tomorrow.  Study text pp. 104 to 115.  Know the meaning of the following vocabulary words:
 *landforms: plain, hill, mountain (Know definition of each.)
*water  bodies: ocean, river, lake (Know definition of each.)
* seasons (fall, winter, spring, summer)
*weather (Two places can have different weather at the same time.)
 *directions (North and south are opposite. When facing north, east is  right and west is left.)
*order ( For example, things can be put in order by time or size.)
***Choose a season and think of something you enjoy doing only in that season.

Homework for Jan. 23
Math- Do workbook pp. 15, 16, and 17.

Science-  Quiz tomorrow.  Study textbook pp. B34 to B53.  Be sure you know the habitat of the all the animals shown in the pictures, such as forest, desert, ocean, pond. Also be able to name the animals in the pictures that show different ways to stay safe, such as rolling into a ball and hiding in holes.  Also be able to name other things that keep animals safe such as color and shape.

Homework for Jan. 24
Math-  Do workbook pp. 21, 22, and 23. Use the cm side of the ruler. USE THE SAME RULER WE USED IN CLASS.
Religion- Quiz tomorrow!  Review sheets on Jesus' miracles.  The test will be based on what I  explained in class for the past two weeks!   Hope all students were listening!!!!

Homework for Jan. 25
Math- Do workbook pp. 27, 28, and 29.  Use the same cm ruler.  Read all directions!
ELA-  Quiz on Mon. on The Recess Queen.  To find the the  story go to the Pearson website, click on Text Collection  and read the second story. Read it at least twice.  Then study all the vocabulary definitions below.

Copy the following words and definitions on the next page in your notebook.  Start with the title only, NOT  with your name or a heading.

Homework for Jan. 14 to 18

Dear Parents,
        There is 12:00 dismissal this Monday.  On Tuesday the class is scheduled to have the MAP Math Test.  On Thursday students will take the End of Module 2 Math Test as well.  On Friday student will take the Reading Test based on the book A Fine, Fine School  (interactive) which I reassigned on line so you can review it this week. Please remember to have your child bring in the progress report signed . Once I check the signature, you can keep it.

Dear Parents,
         Welcome back!  I want to thank you all very much for your thoughtfulness at Christmas time.  I appreciate it with all my heart!   Just a reminder that all students should bring their homework of the responses at the back of the three books from www.pearsonrealize.com. on Thurs. or Fri. at the latest.
Also please remember to send in all the quizzes signed and stapled together if possible.
           According to the January schedule, first grade will be taking the MAP Reading test THIS Wed., Jan. 9th and the MAP Math test on Tues., Jan. 15th.  Hopefully, you have been practicing both skills on the freckles website!!!  I will be giving the Grammar quiz I mentioned before the holiday on Wed. or Thurs.

Math -  Do pp. 89 and 90 in workbook. Please follow directions:  If incorrect, show how to do it correctly using the SAME strategy,  If correct, use a DIFFERENT strategy to show how to get the same answer. (for example, take from ten  or counting on)
