Dear Parents,
Students in first grade will not be doing their MAP testing this week, only students in the upper grades are scheduled for this. I will be posting Monday's homework by this by this afternoon. Please check back then.
Please click on this link to see this week's lesson plan.
Homework for Sept. 16 Mon.
*There is no Math sheet tonight. Copies will not be ready till tomorrow.
ELA- Study all sight words on the left side of the Dolch Sight Words list (after to know). Students need to be able to say the word they see but they do not need to know how to spell any of the words.
The sheet is in the back panel of their homework folder and should STAY THERE ALWAYS!!!
I also put in their corrected.vocabulary assessment on the words from Stellaluna. Students who got 0, 1, or 2 must go back and study their definitions in their notebooks or on my blog.
Math- Review the four Math Homework sheets I sent home stapled together. Explain any errors. Keep these papers at home to review for quizzes.
Homework for Sept. 17 Tues.
ELA- Study all sight words on the right side of the Dolch Sight Words list (let to when) Students need to be able to say the word they see but they do not need to know how to spell any of the words.
I will be reviewing these in class but wait until Thurs. to give an assessment on these for a grade.
Math sheet- Do BOTH sides for Lesson 6. Follow ALL directions.
***Gym tomorrow again. *A reminder again to parents that students take their pencil cases home every day so they can sharpen all pencils AT HOME and check that markers have not dried up. A few students still need to get a dry erase eraser for their white board!
Homework for Sept. 18 Wed.
*Dear Parent, please send in by tomorrow on a card your child's username and password for Success Maker that he or she used during the summer. the web site is epicyouth0140.smhost.net Also please fill in the sheet for Fund Raiser (chocolate boxes to sell) and the sheet about the vision. Both are in your child's folder. Thank you.
Religion- Religion Quiz tomorrow. Study Chapter 1. The test will have ten multiple choice questions on the chapter and include one written response question based on p. 27. STUDY!
Math sheet- Refer to the picture on the back to answer the questions for Lesson 7 Homework sheet.
***Review saying all the words on the Dolch list of words in the back panel of your folder. Many children need much more practice with these words!

Math- Do both sides of the Lesson 8 Homework sheet. Follow ALL directions!
ELA- Review again all the Dolch sight words on the list. I will give a brief assessment tomorrow. Keep reviewing !!!!!

*A word to parents who mentioned they were confused between the vocabulary words and sight words. Vocabulary words are given in each subject. Students are required to know the definition of these words (what the word means). I gave Reading vocabulary for the story Stellaluna.
Sight words are commonly used words all students should recognize. They do NOT need to know how to spell them--only say them. I am reviewing them in class but they extra practice at home so keep reviewing as often as necessary!
Homework for Sept. 20 Fri.
Math- Do both sides of the Lesson 9 Homework sheet. Follow ALL directions.
ELA- Next week there will a Reading Test on Stellaluna. Study the vocabulary definitions in the notebook (or on my previous blog) and practice the Phonics games on the Pearson website. Also think of a sentence that would tell what Stellaluna and the birds could do as friends.
***Review the two corrected Math homework sheets I sent home.
***All corrected Math Exit tickets WILL be stapled together and sent home to review for their first Math quiz at the end of next week.
*** Remember that Monday dismissal is at 12:00 and gym is on Tues. and Wed.

Just a few reminders: It is very important that all parents finish sending in all supplies especially the three folders, one notebook, one pencil case with 3 sharpened pencils with erasers and three dry erase markers of different colors, and another pencil case with a set of sharpened colored pencils and a glue stick. Please also remember that I asked for an extra ream of blank paper and $5.00 for the privacy board (needed on Monday). All parent forms including two emergency cards completely filled in are also due this week. Our schedule is not available yet but I do know that gym will be on Tuesdays at 8:15. We have our opening Mass this Thursday at 9:00 if you wish to attend. So far I have distributed four books: Phonics, Social Studies, Religion, and the Reader/Writer Journal. Please make sure all these books are brought back on Monday (even if you did not get a chance to cover them yet). Homework will be posted on a daily basis so please check for updates every afternoon.
Homework for Sept. 9 Mon.

There are two tasks assigned: a book Stellaluna and Phonics games in Pack Up Skills. Children can hear the book read to them as the words are highlighted and in the Phonics games children can practice their consonant and vowel sounds. This is good preparation for next week's MAP testing. Children should work on this tonight.
Parent, please take a picture of the index card and leave the card in the folder.
Math-Do back side of Math sheet: Lesson 2 Homework

Homework for Sept. 13 Fri.

*** There will be a Religion quiz on Chapter 1 on Thurs. next week.

In Religion many did not answer the last question which on the blog it says to do!!!! One of the most important test skills is the ability to FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. They need to develop this skill now.

Notices and Reminders for Week of Sept. 5 and 6
Dear Parents,
I would appreciate that you read the following carefully. Today we collected all paper and cleaning goods, as well as loose-leaf and construction paper and stored them in the classroom. These will be distributed to the children throughout the year as needed. I collected TWO folders per child and left your child with ONE which will be labeled their HOMEWORK FOLDER. This folder must travel to school and back home every day and must be kept neat to hold only important paper and cards. If you have not done so, please send in the three folders NO LATER THAN MONDAY. I sent home all packages of unsharpened pencils, markers, colored pencils. Please open the boxes and place three sharpened pencils with erasers and three different colored dry erase markers in a pencil case and the set of colored pencils in another pencil case and leave the rest AT HOME. A glue stick should be placed with the colored pencils so children are prepared for class daily!
The two reams of blank paper you sent in were collected and taken to the office so the principal can make copies for us during the year. As I mentioned at the meeting I will need you to send in one more ream of this blank paper for classroom use. I have enough personal white boards for each child so there is no need to purchase these. However, I do need every parent to send in five dollars for the privacy shields to be used during testing. I will have someone order them by next Wed. so please send in the money before then.
Please make sure you do NOT send in pencil sharpeners or loose-leaf binder or pencil boxes. Children sit as tables and have only a seat sack to store their books and supplies so there not much room. The one notebook should have should be composition type, have a hard cover, and consist of enough pages. Please make sure you send in the correct folders shown at the meeting.
We have received a schedule yet but I was informed gym starting next week will be on Tuesday at 8:15. On Fridays we can have dress down as long as class behavior is ok.
Please send in lunch in lunch boxes not bags and for now do not send anything to be heated up till a microwave is available in the lunchroom.
A behavior chart will be set up by Monday and a star given out by Thurs. based on good behavior and being prepared for class. Please do your best to have all supplies in no later than Monday. Please send in all signed forms including two emergency cards at one time all together!Thank you for your cooperation!
