Weekly Notices for Mar. 20 to 24

 Dear Parents,

         This is a reminder that this Monday we are celebrating Mass at 10:00 and Honor certificates will be distributed after the Mass. Please remember also to sign your child's progress report and put it in your child's folder so I can check signatures.  There will be a Reading Test on Tues., Vocabulary and Writing Tests on Wed., and another Reading Test on Thurs.  School is closed on Friday.

          We are completing the tests for Unit 4 in Reading as we are working on the stories for Unit 5.  In Math students will be working geometrical figures and creating composite shapes.  In Science students will be learning about the solar system and in Social Studies they will be studying different landforms. In Religion students will be completing the chapters on Lent and Easter and will be tested on these after the Easter break.  

      We will be having an Easter party on March 31the, the last day before our two week Easter break.  It is essential that students practice Reading and Math on Edgenuity during the break since they will be taking the spring session of the MAP test soon after their return to school. Working on this program will also provide students with an opportunity to practice their computer skills.

Weekly Notices for Mar. 13 to 17

 Dear Parents,

          This week students will have a Reading test on Tuesday, a Math End of Module 4 Test on Wednesday, and Spelling quiz on Thursday. Please note that  I switched the dates of the Math and  Spelling tests since my notice on Friday, so the Math test will be given a day earlier.

          Progress Reports will be sent home this Thursday and school is closed on Friday.  Progress Reports need to be signed and sent in on Monday so I can check signatures.

        In Religion we are still working on Lenten activities. In Reading we will be be finishing up Module 4 including all tests. In Phonics we are still working on consonant blends. In Math we are starting Module 5 on two and three dimensional shapes.  On Science we are completing section 3.2: Light in Action, and in Social Studies students will be learning about our government.

Weekly Notices for March 6 to 10

 Dear Parents,

           This week we are celebrating National Barbie Day on Thurs. (students may dress up as Barbie or a Hippie) and National Mario Day on Fri. (students may dress up as Mario character).  Dress up is fine but no contest this time.  

             Progress Reports will be given out on March 16 and honors (previously postponed) has been rescheduled for March 20th after the Mass. We will be closed on March 17th.  

             This week students are having a Religion Quiz on Tuesday, a Spelling quiz on Wed., and a Vocabulary Quiz on Friday. Students will also have Science and Social Studies homework on sheets that they will need to complete on the days assigned on google classroom.

             This week in Religion we are working on Chapter 20 on the Lenten season.  In Reading we are completing the last book of Unit 4: How a Seed Grows.   In Phonics we are starting the section in Unit 4 that reviews consonant blends. In Math we are completing Module 4 on place value still working on number bonds.  In Science we will continue completing  section 3.2 in Tech book: Light in Action.  Finally in Social Studies, students will be focusing on the topic of Citizenship using related videos and reading passages.

Weekly Notices for Feb. 27 to March 3

 Dear Parents,

          Please remember to send the test folder back on Monday with all quizzes signed. This week students will have a Vocabulary Quiz as well as the Selection Test on The Family Tree.  There will be a Spelling quiz based on the assigned sight words and a Social Studies Quiz.  Please refer to daily assignments on google classroom for study guides and dates. 

          On Thursday students may dress up as a Dr. Seuss' character  to celebrate his birthday. A few students from each class will be selected to be part of the school costume contest to be held in the auditorium at 10:00.  On Friday there will be 12:00 dismissal. Students should come dressed in gym clothes.

       In Math we are presently working on solving word problems using tape diagrams.  In Science students are learning about light traveling through different objects: opaque, translucent, transparent.        In Social Studies, students will continue to learn about other  US symbols: bald eagle, Statue of Liberty. In Reading students will be studying about The Life Cycle of an Apple Tree, our next trade book.  In Religion we will be covering the Lenten season and discussing the Stations of the Cross.

IMPORTANT Weekly Notices for Feb. 20 to 24

 Dear Parents,

         Starting this Tues., dismissal for all students will be at 2:45 every day.  Title 1 classes will continue but will dismiss at 4:30.  This week we are celebrating Mass on Ash Wednesday at 10:00.  Everyone will be receiving ashes to mark the beginning of the Lenten season. After Mass, honors will be distributed to those students indicated on their quarter 2 report cards. Students have dress down day on Thursday.  On Friday we will have Stations of the Cross at 2:15 (Parents are invited.)

           This week students will have a Science test on Tues., Math Mid Module 4 Test on Wed., and Reading Test on Arbor Day Square on Thurs. Students will also resume studying their listed sight words for weekly Spelling quizzes starting this week.  In Religion students should be reviewing Chapter 15.  In Science we are beginning the next section "Light in Action" and in Social Studies they will be learning about our US symbols. 

            After this week the weekly lesson plan link I usually post will no longer be available.  Instead parents may refer here to this blog for an overview of what is going to covered each week.  Parents should continue to refer to google classroom for daily assignments.

Weekly Notices for Feb. 13 to 17

 Dear Parents,

         Please be aware that we have only three days of school this week.  We are closed both Wed. and Fri. We are also closed Mon., Feb. 20 for Presidents' Day.  We are celebrating Valentine's Day on Tues., Feb. 14.  Students are allowed to dress in red and bring in treats to share.  We are also celebrating our 100th Day of School on Thurs., Feb. 16.  Students may dress up as a senior citizen if they wish.  

       Students have a Vocabulary Quiz on Tuesday and a Religion Quiz on Thursday.  Please refer to google classroom for study guides.  In the week of Feb. 20th students will have a Math Mid Module Test, a Science Test, and another Vocabulary Quiz.  Our focus, as we are halfway through the school year, will be on more independent reading, additional practice in reading comprehension, narrative writing, and retelling stories in correct sequence. We will resume Spelling quizzes based on sight words after the holiday.

Weekly Notices for Feb. 6 to 10

 Dear Parents,

         Please make sure to check google classroom for study guides for test s this week.  Gym is on Thurs. this week. On Thursday also students will receive their report cards and NWEA MAP reports. Parents should bring these to their conference with me on Friday. Dismissal is at 12:00 on Friday and there is no after school program that day.   Please see Parent-Teacher Conference schedule below. Please email me no later than Monday evening if you are NOT yet included in the list so you can have one of the remaining slots. Discussion time must be limited to about 10 minutes.
