Weekly Notices for May 1 to 5

 Dear Parents,

           IMPORTANT!  Honors Assembly will be after morning prayers on MONDAY. Parents invited.        (I just received the notice this afternoon.)  GYM will be on Thursday.  There will be 12:00 dismissal on Friday.  

            There will be a Religion Quiz on Tues. on Chapter 9, Reading Test on Wed. on The Sun, a Social Studies Quiz on Thurs. on Earth Day, and a Spelling Quiz on Friday.  

            I will be introducing the next book this week A Picnic in October.   In Religion we will be working on Chapter 10.  In Science we will continue with the section on the Moon and in Social Studies more on landforms and water bodies.  

           Students should continue working on reading and math skills on Edgenuity and for a challenge please remember the Math games I assigned on Discovery. You can find both by typing in clever.com using your child's google account.

Weekly Notices for April 24 to 28

 Dear Parents,

         This week students will have a Reading test on Tues., Vocabulary quiz on Wed., Science Quiz on Thurs., and a Spelling quiz on Fri. Please refer to google classroom daily assignments for study guides.

            We will be studying Chapter 9 in Religion. In Reading we will be completing Unit 5 by next week. In Math we are working on the final Module which is 6.   In Social Studies students will still be working on the Earth Day theme (celebrated on April 22nd).  In Science we will be reviewing facts about the moon with another quiz coming up in the first week of May.  

        The NWEA MAP Test is scheduled for week of May 8th (unless there is a change).  All students should work at least a half hour a day on either Reading or Math skills on Edgenuity.  Remember that students need practice with computer skills as well.  You can find Edgenuity when you type in clever.com (once your child is on his/her google account).  You can also find Discovery as well.  I assigned  a video and two math games for multiplication and division practice if you would like to try the challenge.

Weekly Notices for April 17 to 21

 Dear Parents,

           Welcome back!  I hope you all had a blessed and enjoyable Easter break.  Please read carefully the important notices below:

             This Friday, April 21 first graders are scheduled to have gym and dismissal will be at 12:00 so that Parent-Teacher Conferences can be held from 1:00 to 6:00 pm.  Report cards will be distributed on Thursday afternoon so you can have them on hand for the meeting.  There will NO after school on Friday.  I am posting a time schedule for this meeting below so that you can select a time slot.  You must send me an email regarding the time you prefer so I can list names in order.  

               This week there will be a Religion quiz on Tues. on the Lenten and Easter seasons.  A Vocabulary Quiz is scheduled for Wed. and our End of Module 5 Summative Math Test will be on Thurs.  There will be a Spelling quiz on Fri.  Please check google classroom daily homework assignments for study guides.

             We are presently on Unit 5 Module B in Reading and will be starting Module 6 in Math next week.  In Religion students will be working on Chapter 9.  In Science will continue studying the solar system and in Social Studies we will be learning about protecting our earth's natural resources using discoveryeducation.com   Earth Day is  on April 22nd!

            Lunch has been rescheduled on Wed. and Thurs. from 12:00 to 12:45 so please make sure students have a good breakfast on those days. Report cards have been completed and will need to be reviewed by Mr. Woods this week. I will announce those receiving honors after that. 

           The time schedule for this Friday's meeting is below so you may choose an in-person or zoom session. Please send me email as soon as possible. I will send a link for the zoom meeting to your child's email on Thursday afternoon.

Weekly Notices for March 27 to 31

 Dear Parents,

         This is our last week before our two-week Easter break.  Please be sure to check google classroom for the Vocabulary, Reading, and Spelling tests that will be given throughout the week and refer to the study guides for each.  The Unit 4 Summative Reading Test will be given on Tuesday. The test folder with most recent quizzes will be sent home by Friday and I ask that you sign each test and return after the Easter break.

         The students will be attending Stations of the Cross and having the gym period on Thursday.  On Friday they can have their Easter party on Friday afternoon.  I am requesting that each student bring in five dollars to cover the price of two slices of pizza and Dorito chips which I will provide.  Students should bring in their own containers of juice and ONE bag or box of Easter treats to share with the class. 

         We are currently completing Unit 5 Module A in Reading as well as Unit 5 in Math.  The Religion Quiz on the Lenten and Easter seasons  as well as the Math Unit 5 Summative Test will be given after the Easter break. We are still working on learning about the solar system in Science so the test on  this unit will also be given after the break.  In Social Studies students will be reading and responding to questions on different landforms and water bodies.

         During the Easter break it is VERY IMPORTANT that students practice Reading and Math skills on Edgenuity since the MAP TEST (spring session) will be given soon after their return to school. They also need to practice their computer skills.

Weekly Notices for Mar. 20 to 24

 Dear Parents,

         This is a reminder that this Monday we are celebrating Mass at 10:00 and Honor certificates will be distributed after the Mass. Please remember also to sign your child's progress report and put it in your child's folder so I can check signatures.  There will be a Reading Test on Tues., Vocabulary and Writing Tests on Wed., and another Reading Test on Thurs.  School is closed on Friday.

          We are completing the tests for Unit 4 in Reading as we are working on the stories for Unit 5.  In Math students will be working geometrical figures and creating composite shapes.  In Science students will be learning about the solar system and in Social Studies they will be studying different landforms. In Religion students will be completing the chapters on Lent and Easter and will be tested on these after the Easter break.  

      We will be having an Easter party on March 31the, the last day before our two week Easter break.  It is essential that students practice Reading and Math on Edgenuity during the break since they will be taking the spring session of the MAP test soon after their return to school. Working on this program will also provide students with an opportunity to practice their computer skills.

Weekly Notices for Mar. 13 to 17

 Dear Parents,

          This week students will have a Reading test on Tuesday, a Math End of Module 4 Test on Wednesday, and Spelling quiz on Thursday. Please note that  I switched the dates of the Math and  Spelling tests since my notice on Friday, so the Math test will be given a day earlier.

          Progress Reports will be sent home this Thursday and school is closed on Friday.  Progress Reports need to be signed and sent in on Monday so I can check signatures.

        In Religion we are still working on Lenten activities. In Reading we will be be finishing up Module 4 including all tests. In Phonics we are still working on consonant blends. In Math we are starting Module 5 on two and three dimensional shapes.  On Science we are completing section 3.2: Light in Action, and in Social Studies students will be learning about our government.

Weekly Notices for March 6 to 10

 Dear Parents,

           This week we are celebrating National Barbie Day on Thurs. (students may dress up as Barbie or a Hippie) and National Mario Day on Fri. (students may dress up as Mario character).  Dress up is fine but no contest this time.  

             Progress Reports will be given out on March 16 and honors (previously postponed) has been rescheduled for March 20th after the Mass. We will be closed on March 17th.  

             This week students are having a Religion Quiz on Tuesday, a Spelling quiz on Wed., and a Vocabulary Quiz on Friday. Students will also have Science and Social Studies homework on sheets that they will need to complete on the days assigned on google classroom.

             This week in Religion we are working on Chapter 20 on the Lenten season.  In Reading we are completing the last book of Unit 4: How a Seed Grows.   In Phonics we are starting the section in Unit 4 that reviews consonant blends. In Math we are completing Module 4 on place value still working on number bonds.  In Science we will continue completing  section 3.2 in Tech book: Light in Action.  Finally in Social Studies, students will be focusing on the topic of Citizenship using related videos and reading passages.
