Social Studies

Know the definitions of the following:
colony, constitution, draft, suffrage, reform, stocks, strike, scale, conservation, amendment, veto,
financial, agricultural, executive, legislative, judicial, latitude, longitude, meridian, immigrants,
tenements, migration

Review the following:
New Deal, Harlem Renaissance, Emancipation Proclamation, Constitution, Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, Eighteenth Amendment, Love Canal, Grand Central Terminal,
Great Migration, French and Indian War

Identify the following:
Verrazano, Peter Minuet, Ethan Allen, James F. Cooper, Samuel Gompers, Fredric Bartholdi,
Harriet Tubman, Thurgood Marshall, Robert Fulton, Shirley Chisholm

Review the causes and effects , significant battles, and people involved in the American
Revolution, civil War, World War I, World War II.

Students should think about qualities and values of the American people that are most admired
in our acceptance of other cultures through immigration, in our ways of representing different states, and in our treatment of each other after the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001.

Religion

Know the definitions of the following:
temptation, covenant, covet, communion of saints, idolatry, sacred images, conscience,
sin (venial, mortal, omission), examination of conscience, contrition, penance, absolution,
saint, martyr, holiness, fasting, almsgiving, rite, sacrament, final judgment, diocese, tabernacle

Be able to identify the following:
Advent, Lent, Pentecost, Eucharist, Resurrection, Ascension, Assumption, Annunciation,
Holy Family, Blessed Trinity, Old Testament, New Testament, Chosen People (Israelites),
Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation), Sacraments of Healing (Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick)

Memorize the following:
*the Ten Commandments and what each means
*the Seven Sacraments and what happens in each one
*the Corporal Works of Mercy
*the Spiritual Works of Mercy
*the Beatitudes and what each means
*the Apostles' Creed
*the Sanctus (Holy, holy, holy...)
*the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary
*the prayers to the Blessed Trinity (Signof the Cross & Glory to the Father)

Students should think about writing on the following topics:
*Choose two of the first three commandments which deal with our relationship with God.
Write each commandment and explain how you practice it in your daily life.
*Choose two of the last seven commandments which deal with our relationship with others.
Write each commandment and explain how you practice it in your daily life.
*Choose a Corporal Work of Mercy. Write it and explain how someone you know practiced it.
*Choose a Spiritual Work of Mercy. Do the same.
*Explain five rules one should follow to make a good moral choice. Describe when you had a
difficult choice to make.
*Choose a Joyful Mystery of the Rosary. Describe what you would do if you were there.
*Choose a Beatitude . Write the Beatitude ad explain what it means and how you have seen it practiced.
