Dear Parents of Students of 2nd, 3rd,and 4th graders:
The following letter is meant to clarify any concerns you may be having this year.
Now that most books are covered and all notebooks have been brought in, the problem of heavy book bags hopefully will lighten up. Children now will only be taking home the books necessary for their homework. Since there is no homework assigned on Fridays, students may take home whatever book you feel they most need to review over the weekend.
If any parent needs to see me, please make an appointment through the office for any day between 7:45 and 8:00 and if you have a quick question I usually arrive in the auditorium about 7:30 (or you may write me a note in your child's purple assignment book), but
I cannot call you during school hours and calling you from home is not allowed. In case of something urgent, please call the office to contact me.
In regard to corrected homework, the school policy is to grade each assignmennt as 100 , 50, or 0. Perfect or with minor errors is marked as 100. No homework, wrong page, or late homework (unless I receive a parent note that day) is marked as 0. Not following directions or incomplete homework is marked as 50. Examples of not following directions are: not answering in complete sentences or not writing a full heading on looseleaf when it is stated in the
homework. It is important for homework to be done in the correct notebook to avoid confusion and notebooks should never be left at home! Headings should NOT be written in the notebook and students should never copy the questions -- it's a waste of time.
Answers should be in complete sentences if it is stated in the homework.
Students will be assigned 15 vocabulary words per week (5 from each teacher) to study for a test each Friday. A definition for each word will be copied in class in their vocabulary notebooks. EACH STUDENT SHOULD HAVE ONLY ONE VOCABULARY NOTEBOOK! Students need to study the meaning of the words, not their spelling. Starting next week, Mr. Woods said the SAME words will be assigned to all three classes. Last week I gave Social Studies words so this week it will be Religion.
For Sept. 21 to 25 , the vocabulary words for 2nd, 3d, and 4th are :
commandments, creation, apostles, Incarnation, Santus. Some work planned for last week had to be repeated due to unscheduled meeting and switching of classes being cancelled on Friday morning.
Please click on your child's grade to see this week's homework in Social Studies and Religion. Thank you. Ms. Saville
