Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades 5/16 to 5/20

Dear Parents,
I will be giving the NYSELAT Speaking Test individually to second graders in the mornings this week. Test folders will be sent home this week to all classes. Please review and sign only those on the right side and return folder NO LATER than this Friday with all the same tests inside. (Please do not put in any test from other teachers or leave any out!)

The vocabulary definitions for this week are in Language Arts:

*fable - story that teaches a lesson (moral). It is a fictional story in which the characters are usually animals (in their natural habitat) who speak and act like people.

*skit - story acted out in front of an audience. A skit has characters, a plot (what happens), and dialog (what characters say).

*haiku - Japanese form of poetry that describes one idea or feeling, usually an image of nature. It is three lines long and contains 17 syllables, divided as 5-7-5.

*journal - a day-to-day record of things that happen in sequence; a diary

*biography - a written history of a person's life. An autobiography is a history of a life written by the person himself.
