Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades for Week of 9/8 to 9/12

Dear Parents,
         A reminder to all parents that all five forms and two emergency cards given out at the opening school meeting are due no later than this Friday as well as the form for breakfast and lunch at school.  The two test folders must be in school as well if you wish your child to take tests home.  I have already have all students recording notes in their notebooks this week.  Weekly quizzes begin this Friday.  There will be an ELA quiz this Friday and a Religion quiz this coming Monday for ALL classes. Religion books and new Grammar books have been ordered and are on their way!
           I will only be assigning homework on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so homework is due promptly on Wednesdays and Fridays; no extensions can be given so please make sure it is in on time.
          Please see below for this week's homework.  Make sure you check under the correct grade.

FOURTH   9/9
ELA On looseleaf write a full heading. Answer Voyages Workbook p. 1  #1 to 5  and # 9 and 10.
Answer Workbook p. 2  # 1 to 5.  Follow directions in Workbook. Do ALL on one sheet of looseleaf.
HANDWRITING On the looseleaf provided in class with your name in script, practice writing your name twelve times.  Use the front and back of this one sheet of looseleaf.


FOURTH  9/11
Study all notes in ELA notebook for first weekly quiz this Friday.   This week's quiz will cover GRAMMAR.  Next week's quiz will be on VOCABULARY AND RESPONDING TO LITERATURE.  For this quiz students should study:
*recognizing the names of the four types of sentences
*knowing the ending mark needed foe each type of sentence
*distinguishing a sentence from  a fragment
* knowing how to correct a fragment by adding on to make a sentence
*review use of capital letters
*be able to write a letter with ALL FIVE letter parts including correct  use of capitals and punctuation
***** Remember first Religion Quiz will be this Monday.  Study all Religion notes in the notebook.

Supply List for Second, Third, and Fourth Grades for Sept 2014

Dear Parents,
         Welcome back!  This year I will have THIRD grade as my home room and I will be teaching Religion  and ELA to all three grades.  It is very important that all students get the EXACT supplies listed below to avoid delays and confusion once classes begin!

SUPPLIES NEEDED DAILY:
*THREE sharpened pencils each with eraser ( No sharperners : pencils should be sharpened at home)
 Extra eraser is fine! No pens!
*THREE PLASTIC folders with pockets on the BOTTOM (not sides) and clear INSERT panels in the front and back  (available in school supply room) The first  will be used as TEST folder. The second as CLASSWORK folder . The third will be used as HOMEWORK folder.
*TWO composition hard cover notebooks (NO SPIRAL NOTEBOOKS ALLOWED). First should be labeled RELIGION. Second should be labeled ELA
*one looseleaf pad (sheets with holes that can be torn out one at a time -  but NOT with wire spiral)

*one pack of blank sheets (at least 100) used for printing and illustrations)
*one small thesaurus (as vocabulary aid for composition work)
 *a set of about 12  different colored pencils - NOT CRAYONS
*a glue stick (no jar or bottle of glue)
*one YELLOW highlighter (3rd &4th only)

* one twelve inch ruler
 * TWO FLAT PLASTIC or FABRIC pencil cases (NO pecil boxes). One should hold pencils, eraser, highlighter. Other should hold the colored pencils and glue stick.
*a pack of different colored construction paper (to be kept at home till needed)
* a family box of tissues
* a roll of paper towels (only  3rd)
* one container of bleach wipes (only  3rd)
* one bottle of  hand sanitizer (only 3rd)
* one pack of  different colored labels (only 3rd)

  Book covers will also be needed but brown paper will work just as well to cover text  and workbooks.


SOME REMINDERS:
*Our opening meeting with parents will be at 6:00 p.m.on Tues. Sept. 2 nd.               Calendars and forms that need to be filled out will be given out at the meeting and all questions about supplies will be answered.
*It is very IMPORTANT that all students arrive at school NO later than 8:00 a.m.each morning!
* It is NECESSARY that parents read the blog each week on Mondays to check for the assigned homework, upcoming tests, and any notices or reminders. Please also recheck during the week for any revisions or updates.
* Any appointments to meet with teachers must be made through the office only.
*Students are not allowed to bring any toys to class. A reading book or test prep activity book is allowed in case students have any free time.
*Students who wish to bring their own lunch must bring it in a lunch box that is NOT attached to their bookbag since it must be left in their home room till lunch time. Water bottles are allowed but no soda or juice can be brought to class.
*All students should be in uniform everyday including shoes.  Sweaters must be dark blue with no hoods.
*Finally, please remember to label all supplies  including bookbags with your child's name!

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades for 6/16 to 6/20

Dear Parents,
         Please be aware that final exams will be given this week and no make up tests will be allowed. There will be a brief Final Penmanship Exam this Monday for all grades.  For third and fourth grades it will be in SCRIPT.  For third and fourth, I  will be checking for letter formation and correct joining of letters. For second, I will be checking for proper spacing between letters and words and to see if students know the difference between printing lower case and upper case letters (as some students are still confusing these).
Fourth graders also should review use of capitalization and use of commas and quotation marks for a quiz.
Students should bring their book bags every day this week since students will be taking home books and papers this week. All must be cleaned up, collected, or sent home by this Friday.  Dismissal will be at 12:00 again this Friday. OUR ELA FINAL EXAM  IS SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEDNESDAY. Please make sure students review the ELA Study Guides well! The exam for each grade will include questions on vocabulary, literature including poems, reading passages, grammar, and TWO essays. Please check back for any additional notices this week.

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades for 6/5

Dear Parents,
        Please remember that dismissal is at 12:00 this Friday.  On Wednesday, students from ALL three grades took their Final Religion Exam so there will be NO more tests in this subject.  On Wednesday also students from ALL grades received their three page doubled sided Review Notes for their ELA Final Exam which is scheduled for June 18th.  Although the study guides are extensive, if students begin NOW, there is enough time for review. Besides a few of the usual matching, true/false, multiple choice, completion, and short response questions, students will be required to answer a few questions based on reading passages, and written responses to TWO essay questions (which will be worth  15 point each).
         All students should keep these sheets in the front panel of their homework folder and  all students need to bring this study guide to class EVERY DAY.  You may make and keep a copy at home if you wish because no other copies will be provided.  I will be reviewing the work on these sheets in class starting tomorrow. I strongly suggest that students work on ONE UNIT at a time looking up information in their ELA notebook. Titles and authors of books, stories, poems were purposely provided throughout the year so students can easily "google" for the information.  Links to websites we used have been provided either on my homework sites or on my lesson plans. Please remember  an essays for 2nd  grade requires one paragraph, for 3rd  two paragraphs, and for 4th three paragraphs of 5-6 sentences per paragraph.  Students will be allowed to choose two out of five essay questions.  The questions will be based on the twelve examples provided in the study guide.  Correct word usage,  sentence structure, capitalization, punctuation, clarity of explanation is ALL part of writing a good essay so students need to take all  that into consideration. homework  This week I will also be sending home past corrected  ELA tests and quizzes so students may review from these as well.
        HOMEWORK FOR 2nd, 3rd. AND 4th:    ALL STUDENTS NEED TO  STUDY THE VOCABULARY AND GRAMMAR (IF LISTED) FOR UNIT ONE ON THE REVIEW SHEET (REFER TO BOTH NOTEBOOK AND TEST FOLDERS)  AND ANSWER BOTH ESSAY QUESTIONS ON LOOSELEAF.  A THOROUGH REVIEW OF UNIT 1 WAS DONE WITH EACH CLASS TODAY INCLUDING DISCUSSIONS ON  ESSAY WORK!
*Second graders are assigned to create their own two poems based on class poems we worked on in class.  Remember that  poems are not  to be written in  paragraph form so follow format taught in class and copied in the first few pages of their notebook.
