Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades for 1/13 to 1/17

Dear Parents,                           PLEASE CHECK FOR RELIGION HOMEWORK UPDATE!
         This week students will take their Mid Term Exams.  ALL STUDENTS FOR EACH GRADE RECEIVED  THEIR PAST UNIT 1 AND UNIT 2 TESTS TO STUDY FOR EXAMS. THERE WERE A TOTAL OF FOUR TESTS THAT NEED TO BE SIGNED AND RETURNED BY THIS THURDSAY, JAN.16YH. Friday dismissal will be at 11:00!  On Monday students will have the Essay Writing Exam in both in ELA and Religion on topics covered in Unit 3.  The ELA Mid Term will be on Wed.  and Religion Mid Term will be on Thursday.
Below is a list of what to review for each grade as well as work for the week to complete Unit 3.
 
FOURTH GRADE
Review Unit 1 and Unit 2 tests in ELA and Religion. Review  ALL ELA notes and Unit 1 , 2 , and 3 vocabulary definitions on www.sadlierreligion.com.  Students  were also told to review the chapters on the commandments in the text book especially 4th, 5ht, 7th, and 8th. 
This week students will also be writing an opinion piece based on oral reading of  Can't You Make Them Behave King George? by Jean Fritz. Complete classwork for homework.

Rel - 1/16 Read the chapter on your assigned commandment and do further on line research. Prepare a project by writing a three paragraph essay in script on loose leaf on the commandment. Write a title. First paragraph should include  an interesting introduction, the commandment,  and the meaning of the words. Second paragraph should describe different ways you live or fail to live  the commandment as a fourth grader, and third paragraph should explain how adults are expected to follow and how adults fail to live this commandment. Include a conclusion.  Prepare a print out of four to six about 8x11 pictures that correspond with your essay and glue them on construction paper.  WORK MUST BE BASED ON RESEARCH.  Work is due on Tues., Jan. 21.
REMINDER:FOURTH GRADERS WILL NEED TO COMPLETE THEIR ELLA OPINION ESSAY IN SCRIPT BY DISMISSAL TIME TOMORROW. 



THIRD GRADE
Review Unit 1 and Unit 2 tests in ELA and Religion. Review  ALL ELA notes and Unit 1 , 2 , and 3 vocabulary definitions on www.sadlierreligion.com
This Tuesday and Friday students will be presenting their speeches on ocean animals.  Students should bring 2 or 3 large colorful pictures to show for their presentation. There will also be a Penmanship Exam in script on Tuesday.  Students will be required to read a passage in print and write it in script.

Rel -  1/16 Do research on the sacrament you were assigned in class.  On loose leaf, write a two  paragraph essay on the sacrament.  Write a title. The first paragraph should include an introduction. BASED ON RESEARCH,  name the people present.  Name the symbols used and what each one means. Describe the garments people use.  In the second paragraph describe what happens during the sacrament and why it  is important. Be sure to write a conclusion.  Prepare a print out of four to six about 8x11 pictures that correspond with your essay and glue them on construction paper. Work is due on Tues., Jan. 21.

SECOND GRADE

This week we will be studying tall tales. I will read Johnny Appleseed to the class. Students need to watch a You Tube (eg. Walt Disney version) video on ONE of the following tall tale characters and be ready to retell the story in class as part of an oral presentation:  Paul Bunyan, Casey Jones, John Henry, Pecos Bill, or Johnny Appleseed.

Rel - 1/16 MEMORIZE THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. Copy text  pp. 112 and 115 in your Religion notebook neatly. Copy ALL - each commandment followed by what each commandment means.  Then study these notes.  Review Chapters 11 and 12 again. Memorize the four steps of  Reconciliation and what each step means: confession, contrition, penance, and absolution. Work is due on Tues., Jan. 21.

ATTENTION THIRD AND FOURTH GRADERS: 
       ON JANUARY16TH, THERE WILL BE A SCHOOL  HANDWRITING CONTEST IN SCRIPT.  ONE STUDENT WILL BE CHOSEN FROM EACH CLASS AS THE BEST AND RECEIVE A PRIZE.  PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!
