***A reminder to parents that students are NOT to bring any toys of any kind to school even for after school. Many students are rushing through their homework and doing very poor and incomplete work in order to play. Students should instead bring a book to read or an activity book (eg. with puzzles, word searches) to use when their are finished their work. They may also bring a sketch pad if they wish to draw but it should not look like their notebook so there is no confusion.
Homework for Nov. 20 (Wed.)

*** A Summative Test is like an exam and has a much higher point value than a quiz affecting your a child's grade so please review well. There will be a Summative Unit 1 Reading Test next week answering questions based on a story that is read to them so LISTENING WELL is very important!
***Dismissal is at 12:00 on Friday. Parent-Teacher Conferences are from 1:00 to 6:00 pm. PARENT PLEASE BRING THE REPORT CARD WITH YOU. Each parent can be allowed about 10 minutes for discussion and your turn is based on time of arrival.

For example in 9 - 1 you can count ON by starting at 1 and hopping forward to 9 (eight hops) on a number line--- OR you can count BACK by starting at 9 and making one hop back to get to 8. So counting back is better here because it is a shorter trip. The MIDDLE number in each addition or subtraction sentence shows the number of hops to make: eg. 9-8=1 means start at 9 and make 8 hops back and 8+1=9 means start at 8 and make 1 hop forward.
Reading - Practice reading all five leveled readers on the Pearson website which I mentioned above in yesterday's homework. You may read also the questions on the back page of each but do not answer them yet.
***The THREE students who took their Science book home today must do their Science homework from p. B 19 tonight. Remember to restate. Answer in complete sentences. Parents please look at the corrected Science homework I sent home in their folders and review so work shows improvement.
***Please ask your child which class treat he or she is bringing in for Halloween. I assigned each child a different treat so we can have variety. Each child will also need to bring another treat to share with our class. No big bottles of juice or glass containers are allowed-- only small containers. Students must come in dressed up in their costume and go home the same way. Make up and masks are allowed but please NO violence-related props such as knives or guns. I will be ordering pizza for the class-at least two slices each and some extra candy treats. Please have your child bring in $4.00 on Monday to cover the cost. Please make sure your child brings in a plastic pumpkin or Trick or Treat bag to carry extra treats home. There will be no homework on Halloween!

****I was very upset to see that a few students did not bother to do ANY of the homework I assigned on Friday even when they had from Friday to Wednesday to complete it. I have had to enter ZERO for all of these assignments and that grade will remain if work is not completed by tomorrow. Some students simply said "I forgot" and that is not acceptable! Completing homework ON TIME is important and WILL affect their over all grade. It is also VERY IMPORTANT that all parents read the blog daily. Some students also need in to bring in their test folder!
Homework for Oct. 18 (Fri.)
Math - Do pp. 116 and 117 in workbook. Part of p. 116 was explained and done in class.
***There will be a Reading Test next week on Frog and Toad Together. Review the vocabulary in the notebook. Reread the story Dragons and Giants in the Text Collection on the Pearson website. Think of a different ending for the story where Frog and Toad are acting bravely.
***There will also be a Math test Thurs. next week. I am sending home corrected exit tickets 18 to 23 so students can begin studying. PLEASE DO NOT LOSE OR THROW AWAY THESE SHEETS!
Also parent please check corrected homework pages--as you can see several students still have trouble following ALL the directions and completing their work.

Homework for Oct. 7 to 11
Dear Parents,
This week there will be a Math Quiz on Tues., a Religion Quiz on Thurs., and a Writing Test on Fri. If possible I would appreciate if you could let me know what seed samples your child could bring in this week (such as apple, cantaloupe, sesame, orange, grapes, pumpkin, sunflower, avocado) Please list on a note what THREE samples you have available that your child may be able to bring in this week. Then bring in the three small plastic bags with seed samples on Thurs.
On Monday picture envelopes will be given out. Parent must place the exact amount inside the envelope and take to Mrs. Resto's office. Envelopes will not be collected in class. Class Pictures will be taken on Tuesday so all students MUST be in full school uniform. Gym will probably be cancelled since pictures will be taken in the auditorium.

Homework for Oct. 8 (Tues.)
Math- Answer p. 93 in the workbook. Be sure to follow ALL directions.
Grammar- Answer p. 10 in the Voyages workbook.
***I noticed that again many students copied their heading WRONG on last night's homework and realize that one reason might be that when viewing the assignment on one's phone, it shows the heading placed incorrectly. If you click on desktop view on the bottom, you will see the correct heading as it appears on a computer screen.
Homework for Oct. 9 (Wed.)
Math- Answer pp. 97 and 98 in the workbook. Follow directions.
Religion- Study Chapter 2 for Religion quiz tomorrow.
***Bring in three small sandwich bags with seed samples. Label with your child's name and the type of seed it is on ONE side alone. In this way we can turn each bag over so children can GUESS which type of seed it is and then turn it over to see if they are correct.
Homework for Oct. 10 (Thurs.)
Math- Answer workbook p. 101 only. Be sure to follow directions!
Grammar- Do p. 13 in Voyages workbook. Write a simple telling sentence for each. Be sure to start each sentence with a capital letter and end with a period.
***Parent, please sign each quiz and RETURN all quizzes on Wed. in the same folder. Please do not lose the folder. I will use it for the rest of the year to send tests home.
Do not change or correct any answers on these tests! You may do corrections on loose leaf if you wish.
***Dress down tomorrow is allowed.
Homework for Oct. 11 (Fri.)
