Homework for Feb. 18 to 21

Dear Parents,
         This week there will be a Math Quiz on measuring on Wed.  and a Religion Quiz on Chapter 9 on  Thurs.  Please note in the Math workbook that the new Module 4 begins after p. 68 and starts again as page 1 in the same workbook.

Homework for Feb. 18 (Tues.)
Math- Do workbook pp. 54 and 55.  Also review all exit tickets 1 to 9 for quiz on Thurs.
Religion-  Review Chapter 9 for quiz tomorrow.
*Thanks to all parents for your chocolately gifts and for your contribution to our Valentine party.
***Tomorrow the school is  celebrating its 100th anniversary.  Students may dress up as elderly people if they wish to celebrate this special day.

Homework for Feb. 19 (Wed.)
Math-  Review all exit tickets 1 to 9 for quiz tomorrow on measuring. Review also all corrected homework pages on measuring in the workbook. DO NOT do Lesson  11 yet!

ELA- Do Voyages pp. 90 and 94.  Be sure to read and follow all directions!


Homework for Feb. 20  (Thurs.)
Math- Do workbook pp. 59 and 60.  Follow directions.

Social Studies-  On loose leaf write a full heading.  Number down 1 to 10.  Copy the word from the blue box that matches each of the definitions. Copy ONLY the words.


Homework for Feb. 21 (Fri.)
Math- Do workbook pp. 63 and 64.  Follow all directions carefully!

Social Studies- Study pp. 116 to 127 and 138 and 139 for quiz next week.

ELA- Study the vocabulary definitions for Going to School  in the notebook. (They were listed on  homework blog for Feb. 7th.)  Also read over the book on the Pearson website. Next week there will be a test on this book as well as a Writing test and an End of Unit 2 test which requires carefully listening.

There may also be a Science test on Chapter 6 next Friday.  I will send books home next week.

Homework for Feb. 10 to 14

Dear Parents,
         This is a reminder that on Wed. all students should come dressed in red or pink for their St. Valentine musical presentation at 9:00.  There is no school on Thurs., Fri., or Mon.  but I will be assigning homework.  We will have a mini Valentine party on Wed. afternoon depending on student behavior.

Homework for Feb. 10 (Mon.)
Math-  Do workbook pp. 44 and 45.   NOTE WE ARE SKIPPING LESSON 7 AND DOING THAT TOMORROW! Students should use either all small or all large paper clips as we practiced in class.

Science-  Study sheet of notes on the seasons stapled in the notebook for a brief assessment tomorrow.

***I am sending home the test folder today with TEN tests.  Parent, please sign each test and return in the same folder by this Wednesday! Please note that the two Math tests are based on 50% each so don't panic.
***Today I gave an assessment on the vocabulary definitions from Going to School as I said I would.  I noticed that some students did not even write the definitions in their notebook as I assigned for homework and therefore failed the assessment!  Some did not even have the definitions for the previous book Far From Home.   Please take note of this before it is too late!

Homework for Feb. 11 (Tues.) 
Math- You must use the two paper strips of small paper clips and of the large paper clips in the folder to measure each of the objects on workbook p. 39 and list both measurements on the top half of p. 41.  This Math page is also in your folder.   For the bottom half choose any five objects you have at home.

Religion-  Answer p. 118 in the workbook.  Be sure to answer the question at the bottom in a complete sentence.  Look up the answers in the chapter. Don't guess.

***Remember to wear red or pink clothes tomorrow for the musical presentation at 9:00.  Bring your own extra juice containers and a small Valentine treat to share with the class.
***Remember to bring in your test folder with each test signed so I can file them.

Homework for Feb. 12 (Wed.)
Math- Do workbook pp. 50, 51, and 52. Draw the centimeter cubes to model each problem as shown in class on pp. 48  and 49. Then write a number sentence and statement for each problem.
Study all exit tickets 1 to 9 for Math quiz next week.  (Exit ticket 7 was left out.)

Religion - Study Chapter 9 for Religion quiz next week.
***Remember no school Monday. Gym is on Tuesday.

Homework for Feb. 3 to 7

Dear Parents,
         This Monday we are having a prayer service for the feast of St. Blaise at 9:00.  All students will have their throats blessed.  The HONORS ASSEMBLY will take place right after that.  Hopefully you'll read this in time if you wish to attend.
          I must ask all parents to make an extra effort to get your children to school BEFORE PRAYERS.  Too many students have been arriving during or even after prayers day after day! School rules state that students are to go to the auditorium when they arrive.  I pick up students there, bring them to the classroom, and then we go down to church together as a class. I will be taking students down at 7:50 so please make sure your child is on the line with us!
          This is a reminder that we are having a Science Quiz on Wed.  and a Grammar Quiz on Thurs.   On Friday we have 12:00 dismissal.  This is why I  changed the last quiz for Thurs.  Please have your students bring in a 12 inch ruler since we are working on measuring for this  Math module.

Homework for Feb. 3 (Mon.)
Math - Do workbook pp. 8, 9, and 10.  Note that there are three pages! Sorry for the previous error.
ELA - In Voyages answer  p. 86.

***Science Quiz on Wed.  Those of you who took books today study pp. C 4 to C 23. Be sure to know  predict, thermometer, temperature, constellations, sunrise, sunset, moon phases (new moon, full moon, crescent moon)  Know all about how the sun, the earth, and the moon.

Homework for Feb. 4 (Tues.)
Math- Do workbook pp. 15, 16, and 17.  Note  again that there are three pages!
Science- Review for quiz tomorrow.  See information above.

***Yesterday 23 students arrived on time for morning prayers!  A big THANK YOU to all parents for your cooperation in this matter!  Please do your best so this continues.

Homework for Feb. 5 (Wed.)
Math-  Do workbook pp. 21, 22, and 23.  Again there are three pages!  For the first two pages make sure you use only the centimeter strip we used in class which is in the folder.

ELA- Grammar quiz tomorrow!  Study Voyages pp. 86, 87, and 88  Review all errors on p. 86 so you don't make them again on the quiz!

Homework for Feb. 6 (Thurs.)
Math- Do workbook pp. 27, 28, and 29.  Yes, again three pages!  Read carefully!!!!

Social Studies-  On the loose leaf write a full heading. Look on textbook pp. 116 to 118. Write the word Countries and under it write the names of the three countries.  Then write the word Continents and under it the names of the seven continents.  Then write the word Oceans and under it the names of the four oceans.  Make sure you write each starting with  a capital letter and be sure to spell each correctly and neatly.
***Please remember that dismissal tomorrow is at 12:00.

Homework for Feb. 7 (Fri.)
Math- Do workbook pp. 34 and 35.  Use your centimeter strip to measure.
ELA- On the Pearson website read over the book Going to School. Then on your next notebook page write the title first and then the copy the following vocabulary words and their definitions neatly and correctly.  Study them for a brief assessment on Monday.

Homework for Jan. 27 to 31

Dear Parents,
        As I stated on last week's blog on Tues. we have Open House and parents can visit the classroom between 9:00 to 11:00 (Students have gym till 9.)  On Wed. we have our Religion Fair at 9:00 if parents want to come.   On Thurs. report cards will be distributed  and then on Friday dismissal will be at 12:00 so we can have Parent -Teacher Conferences from 2:00 to 6:00.  Parents should bring their child's report card to the meeting! On Friday students will also receive free hot chocolate!
       The Reading Test on Far from Home will be on Tues.   The Social Studies Quiz will be on Wed.
The Religion Quiz on Jesus' miracles will be on Thurs.

Homework for Jan. 27 (Mon.)
Math- Do workbook pp. 113 and 114.  Read ALL directions on top of p. 114.
ELA-  Reading Test tomorrow on  Far from Home .  Read over the book and study the vocabulary definitions in the notebook.
***Students should practice reading the four stories on the sheets  about Jesus' miracles by Wed. before the fair.
*Gym tomorrow.

Homework for Jan. 28 (Tues.)
Math- Do workbook pp. 117 and 118.  Follow work done on previous two pages.
Social Studies- Quiz tomorrow. Review pp. 104 to 115 for test next week.  Be sure to know the following definitions: plains, mountains, hills, rivers, oceans, lakes, order.

Math-  Do workbook pp. 121 and 122. Fill all boxes and all blanks.
Science-  On loose leaf write a full heading.  Answer questions 1 to 7 on pp. C22 and C23.  Follow directions.  Make sure you answer last three questions in complete sentences.
Religion- quiz on Jesus' miracles tomorrow.  Review stories on sheets and video.

Homework for Jan. 30 (Thurs.)
Math-  Do workbook pp. 3 and 4 in the new workbook.
ELA- In Voyages workbook do pp. 76 and 77.  Be sure to read and follow directions.
***Dismissal tomorrow is at 12:00.  Parent -Teacher Conferences are from 2:00 to 6:00. Parent please bring your child's report card to the meeting!!!

       The MAP Reading test for first graders is scheduled for this Wed. ,so please practice Reading on Success Maker at every opportunity. Please have children bring back their corrected sheets on the three leveled readers by Tues. so I can file them.  Math Test will most likely be on Thurs.  We have Mass on Fri. at 9:00.

Math-  Do workbook pp 105 and 106.  Look at p. 104 for help.
ELA - Read over the book Far from Home on the Pearson web site.  On next notebook page copy the title and then the eight words and definitions.  Study for an assessment.

***Since our Religion Fair presentation is next Wed. I am preparing students by teaching them about the miracles Jesus performed.  Each student will be assigned one miracle to write a sentence about and be able to discuss at the fair.  A test on Jesus' miracles will be given at the end of next week. No Math homework tonight!
Reading Test next week.  Read over Far from Home on the Pearson website.  Be sure to study the vocabulary definitions in your notebook.  The definitions are also listed above.

Homework for Jan. 13 to 17

Dear Parents,
         Please remember to have your children bring in their test folder with each test signed.  You also need to sign the Progress Report. it will be returned the same day. On Monday we have 12:00 dismissal.  On FRIDAY first graders will be taking the MATH Map Test on the computer.  On Wed. we have National Hat Day with a contest for anyone who wishes to participate.  Students would need to make their own hat and be creative as they wish.  Some ideas can be found on   this link  Remember also that there will be a Religion Quiz on Chapter 8 on Wed.
***Some students STILL did not complete answering questions on all three Leveled readers. By this Friday I will need to enter zero on any missing assignments!

Homework for Jan. 13 (Mon.)
Math- Do workbook pp. 83 and 84.  On p. 83 do only number bonds for each,  On p. 84 you must make a drawing for each of the two expressions in order to compare them.
Religion - Answer all questions on p. 106 including the bottom.  Study Chapter 8 for the quiz.

Homework for Jan. 14 (Tues.)
Math-  Do workbook pp. 89 and 90.  Read and follow directions CAREFULLY!  Choose one of the first three strategies in the box--not the last one.
Religion- Quiz tomorrow. Review Chapter 8.  Be able to write two sentences describing ONE of Jesus' miracles.
***Practice Math on Success Maker.  Remember your MAP test is this Thursday.
***Tomorrow is National Hat Day for anyone interested. The contest will be at 10:00.
***Remember that this Friday is the last day to give me the answers to the three leveled readers:  Lets's Be FairIt's Time to Get in Line, and Off  to School We Go.

Homework for Jan. 15 (Wed.)
Math- Do workbook pp. 93 and 94.  For p. 93 use the take from ten number bond following sample #1.  For p. 94 use the count on strategy and write the number sentence following sample #4.
ELA- In the Voyages book do p. 55.  Be sure to read and follow directions.
****FRIDAY is the Math MAP test.  Practice Math on Success Maker, but don't overdo it!


Homework for Jan. 16 (Thurs.)
MATH MAP TEST IS TOMORROW:FRIDAY! Sorry for the confusion. 
Math- Do workbook pp. 97 and 98.  Follow what was done on pp. 95 and 96. Draw circles, label each set, write an addition sentence with box around missing addend, and write a statement that answers the question. 
ELA- In Voyages do p. 60.  Read and follow directions.
****Tomorrow is definitely last day to hand me the Christmas Recess Leveled reader assignment! Two students STILL have not given them to me.
 ****Dress down is ok.

Homework for Jan. 17 (Fri.)
Math-  Do workbook pp. 101 and 102.  Follow again what was done on the previous pages. Be sure to label, box the answer in the number sentence, and write a correct statement!
MATH TEST NEXT WEEK.  Study corrected exit tickets 12 to 24.

Social Studies- On loose leaf  write a full heading.  Answer the two questions at the bottom of p. 113 in complete sentences.

Homework for Jan. 6 to 10

Dear Parents,
          Welcome back!  Thank you very much for all your lovely and thoughtful gifts.  I appreciate them so very much!!! I opened them all on Christmas Day! Please remember to have your children bring in their homework: three sheets of loose leaf with the questions they answered from the three books on the Pearson website.  It is due no later than this Thurs, Jan.  9 in case you need a little more time but by Friday grades must be recorded.  There will be a test on The Recess Queen on Thursday as well as a Writing Test based on A Fine, Fine School and The Recess Queen on Friday.
            On Friday I will be sending home a set of ten tests to be signed in a folder: 2 Religion, 2 Reading,  1 Phonics, 1 Writing, 1 Math, 1 Grammar, 1 Social Studies, and 1 Science.  Please return all in the same folder by Mon., Jan. 13.
***I have been checking each student's  progress in both Reading and Math on Success Maker and will discuss with you upon our return.  MAP TEST FOR FIRST GRADE HAS BEEN SCHEDULED: MATH IS ON JAN. 17 AND READING IS ON JAN.22. Progress Reports will be sent home this Friday and Report Cards will be given out by the end of the month.

Math- Do workbook pp. 61 and 62. Follow all directions!
ELA-Copy the title and definitions for The Recess Queen on the next page of your notebook and study them for a short assessment tomorrow!

***A few students informed me today that one of the books I assigned for the Christmas recess had no questions in the back. The book with the questions is Off to School We Go (not Off to School).  I'm sorry for the confusion.  Everyone has until this Friday to complete the rest of the assignment.  I will collect this last one on Friday.

Homework for Jan. 7 (Tues.)
Math- Do workbook pp. 65 and 66.  Read and follow all directions!
Social Studies- On loose leaf write a full heading.  Answer the two questions on p. 107.  Use the words land forms and water bodies to answer question #1.
***Gym again tomorrow!
***SHARPEN ALL PENCILS INCLUDING COLORED PENCILS.  MAKE SURE ALL HAVE ERASERS THAT WORK!  INSPECTION TOMORROW.
***Remember to finish answering the questions for the last Person book I assigned.

Homework for Jan. 8 (Wed.)
Math-  Do workbook pp. 69 and 70.  Follow samples on previous two pages.
ELA- Test tomorrow. Review vocabulary definitions for The Recess Queen and read over the book on the Pearson website.  You can find it in Text Collection Unit 2. It is the second story after A Fine, Fine School.  Be sure to be able to  give a reason why you think it is right for Katie Sue to stand up to Mean Jean.

Homework for Jan. 9 (Thurs.)
Math- Do workbook pp. 73 and 74.  Note the three directions for each :  Draw 5 groups, cross out, and write the 2+ addition sentence.
Science-  On the loose leaf  write a full heading CORRECTLY!!!  Answer the two questions at the bottom of p. C 9 in complete sentences.
***Empty out your homework folder except for the cards in the front and the word list in the back.  Leave all corrected papers at home in a safe place.
***Writing test tomorrow on how Tilly or Katie Sue behaved as good classroom citizens.
***Remember that tomorrow is the last day to give me the answers to the last Pearson book: Off to School We Go.
***Dress down ok tomorrow!

Homework for Jan. 10 (Fri.)
Math- Do workbook pp. 79 and 80.  Be sure to show the work for each one: circles with crossing out. or count on from 8.
Religion- Study Chapter 8 for quiz next week.
***Parent, please sign each of the ten tests in the test folder and send back them back in the same test folder with all the tests inside by Monday!  Also, please sign the Progress Report. I will return it to you as soon as I see the signature.
***Practice Reading and Math om Success Maker at every opportunity!
***Parents, please note that many students are getting Inc, on their Math homework page over and over because THEY ARE STILL NOT FOLLOWING ALL DIRECTIONS! It is extremely important that students pay attention to directions and LEARN TO NOTICE DIFFERENCES like changes from 8 to 9.  If students keep repeating the same type of errors over and over, then my correcting their work daily is of no use.  Students need to learn from mistakes, not keep repeating them! Please review their work whenever possible.
