Dear Parents, This Monday is Hippie Day (as the picture indicates). Students can wear jeans, colorful tops, beads, and headbands, etc. This week all grades will be working on giving speeches and related how to- writing. Students should have ideas and sequenced steps listed on their index cards. Please check homework for number of steps required for each grade. The third grade's vocabulary test will need to be rescheduled for this Monday since they were taken out for Music classes in the afternoon and due to scheduled evaluations for all teachers were not able to take the test earlier. I am requesting that second graders please bring a box of tissues to class this week since our supply is low.
The vocabulary definitions for this week are in Religion:
*Lent-Church season lasting forty days from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday
*Ash Wednesday-holy day in which our foreheads are marked with blessed ashes as a sign that we are sorry for our sins
*Triduum-the three days in which we remember Jesus' suffering and death: Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday
*fasting-eating sparingly (little) or abstaining from (giving up)certain foods as a sign of sacrifice
*almsgiving-giving money, foood, clothes,etc. to the poor as an act of charity

FOURTH GRADE
3/1- In LA notebook answer LA Workbook p. 57. For Mon., March 7 prepare a speech using an index card on one of the topics in Activity F in LA textbook p. 125 or choose one of your own. Speech must have title, introduction, six sequenced steps using order word,and a conclusion.
3/3- Study the rest of the essay questions listed in Religion notebook.
Another three will be chosen to be answered in class as a quiz.
THIRD GRADE
3/1 - In LA notebook answer LA Workbook p. 23. For Wed., March 2 prepare a speech on directions to a destination on an index card. Speech must have title,introdution,five sequenced steps using order words,and a conclusion.
3/3- Study the rest of the essay questions listed in Religion notebook.
Another three will be chosen to be answered in class as a quiz.
SECOND GRADE
3/1 - Prepare a speech on giving directions to a specific destination within walking distance to school. On index card make an outline with a title,introduction,four sequenced steps using order words,and a conclusion.
3/3 - Study the entire Act of Contrition and the Apostles' Creed and the meaning of terms in the Religion notebook for quiz.
3/3 - Study this week's fifteen definitions for Vocabulary test on Friday.
