Study Guide for Religion Final Exams for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th

 
THIRD AND FOURTH WILL BE TAKING THE ARCHDIOCEASAN EXAM ON JUNE 4TH.


FOURTH GRADE
*Review thoroughly all definitions on www.studystack.com/flashcard-258432
*Review all definitions of words on flashcards for Units 1,2,3 & 4 on www.sadlierreligion.com
*Study all notes on three sheets stapled in Religion notebook titled: Archdiocese of New York: Grade 4 Exam Review.
*Study sheet stapled in notebook listing ten essay questions and be prepared to answer EACH part of every question.
*Study sheet listing the Beatitudes and explaining the meaning of each.

Be sure to memorize the following:
*each of the Ten Commandments (and specific ways in which YOU practice each of these)
*Jesus' s Two Great Commandments
*Jesus' s New Commandment
*the NEW Nicene Creed (on the Mass card)
*each of the Beatitudes (Sermon on the Mount)
*Corporal Works of Mercy
*Spiritual Works of Mercy
*Practical Works of Mercy (specific ways in which we practice these works of mercy)
*each of the five Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary
*the Stations of the Cross (text p. 329)
*the steps for making a good moral choice (listed on review sheet)
*the Sanctus prayer
*names of the Sacraments of Initiation, Sacraments of Healing, Sacraments of Service
*name of a saint and specific evidence of how he/she lived a life of holiness
*four steps of Reconciliation and how to prepare for it (examination of coscience)

SECOND GRADE

*Study review sheet with vocabulary words and essay questions. Be prepared to answer EACH part of the FIRST FIVE essay questions only. BE SURE TO KNOW THE MEANING OF EACH WORD ABOVE THE ESSAY QUESTIONS!

Be sure to memorize:
*THE ACT OF CONTRITION
*each of the Ten Commandments (and specific ways in which YOU practice each of these)
*each of the steps of Reconciliation and how we prepare for it:
EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE - thinking about our sins and knowing which commandemnts we've broken
The four steps are: CONFESSION - telling your sins; CONTRITION - being sorry for your sins;
PENANCE - making up for the sins by prayers or good deeds; ABSOLUTION- forgiveness of sins
* describing and explaining a story of fogiveness such as The Lost Sheep or The Forgiving Father

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th 5/27 to 5/31

Dear Parents,    PLEASE CHECK FOR UPDATED INFORMATION POSTED IN  CAPITALS.
           THE RELIGION ARCHDIOCEASAN EXAM IS SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 4TH FOR BOTH THIRD AND FOURTH GRADERS! THIS WILL COUNT AS THEIR FINAL EXAM GRADE WHICH WILL BE ON THEIR REPORT GRADE.  THERE IS A SEPARATE BLOG WIITH A STUDY GUIDE FOR EACH GRADE INCLUDING LINKS TO REVIEW VOCABULARY. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND CHECK OFF EACH AREA THAT YOU ARE SURE THAT YOU KNOW. REVIEW ALL SHHETS OF NOTES IN NOTEOOK. ABD NO Second grade will take the regular Religion Final Exam on June 20th.  An ELA and Penmanship Final Exam will be given to all grades on June 19th. This Friday our MAY PROCESSION WILL BEGIN AT 9:00.  All students need to bring rosary beads.  Only those who received First Communion this year should wear their commnion attire. Students can bring uniform or a change of clothes to wear after the prayer service.
         There will be an ELA Weekly Quiz for all classes this Friday on Unit 5. The homework below should help in preparing for this quiz.  Daily review and assessments will be given in Religion in class in preparation for the Archdiocesan Exam and the same should be done at home.

FOURTH GRADE
ELA 5/28 On looseleaf write a heading and answer the following questions based on Journal notes:
                  1. Where does your chosen costellation name come from?
                  2. What is unique about this constellation?  Describe it.
                  3. Give ONE example of  artistic license used in poetry?
                  4. Give ONE example of how the author modified facts about the moon in the fictional
      African tale we studied.
                  5. Give ONE example of how use of commas can change the meaning of a sentence.
                 6. Write SIX sentences describing in sequence how the Native American mound builder
culture developed.

REL 5/30   SEE NEW BLOG ON STUDY GUIDE FOR ARCHDIOCESAN RELIGION EXAM  FOR 2013 FOR EACH GRADE.    KEEP STUDYING REVIEW NOTES THOROUGHLY!  In Penmanship book do pp. 74-75.

THIRD GRADE
ELA 5/28   Find research on your planet on http://starchild.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/StarChild/solar_system_level1/planets.html   On looseleaf  write  a heading.  List SIX interesting facts about your planet .  Then list THREE differences and TWO similarities between another planet and your own.. Be ready to use these for your essay.

REL 5/30 KEEP STUDYING REVIEW NOTES THOROUGHLY! In Penmanship book do p. 70.

SECOND GRADE
ELA 5/28 On looseleaf write a heading.  Skip a line and write a short title.  Indent and write SIX sentences including an introduction and conclusion that answers the following question:  If you could change ONE thing about school, what would it be?  Give FOUR different reasons. FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE LEARNED IN CLASS!  Work should be neat and complete.

REL. 5/30 KEEP STUDYING REVIEW NOTES THOROUGHLY!   On looseleaf copy the Hail Mary prayer in your neatest handwriting for a Penmanship homework grade.  Memorize the prayer.

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades for 5/20 to 5/24

Dear Parents,
         Please see below for this week's homework:
 FOURTH GRADE
5/21 ELA - Due to Science Exam tomorrow, I am  only assigning students to watch two videos (documentary and news story) on  http://www.zunal.com/introduction.php?w=152255 and consider reasons for preserving or not preserving  the artifacts of the ancient Native American mound builders.

5/23 REL -Review the vocabulary from Unit 1 to 4 on www.sadlierreligion.com Write a paragraph about  the life of a saint and tell how this person specifically followed ONE Corporal or ONE Spiritual Work of Mercy. Name the work and explain in detail citing evidence from research.

THIRD GRADE
5/21 ELA - On looseleaf write a heading.  Write  a title followed by a pargraph describing some interestig facts about the planet you were assigned. Then follow it with  another paragraph comparing this planet with a different planet.  Be sure to include an introduction and conclusion. Each paragraph should have six sentences.

 5.23 REL  -On looseleaf research for colorful pictures, prayers, devotions, litanies, symbols related to feast day you chose for the Blessed  Mother.  Also make  a list of words and their meanings related to the feast day to be used to create a semantic map design in class.

SECOND GRADE
5/21 ELA - Write a heading. Write a paragraph of six senteces on the topc:  What would I do if I had a million dollars?  Choose ONE thing you would do that is most important and give THREE REASONS why you would choose to do this.   Be sure to include introduction and conclusion.

5/23 REL -  -Review the vocabulary from Unit 1 to 4 on www.sadlierreligion.com.
Practice answering any three essay questions on looseleaf.

Dear Parents,     UPDATE: SEE  BELOW!
        This Monday, May 13 all grades will be taking the Unit 4 Test in Religion and on Wednesday, May 15 the Unit 4 Test in ELA.  On Thursday at 10:00 a.m. only those in the sacramental program from 2nd (including some from older grades) with be celebrating their First Reconciliation.  On Friday there will be 12:00 dismissal. 
        Please see below for a guide on what to review for the tests:

 FOURTH GRADE
RELIGION : Study primarily the sheets stapled in Religion notebook titled as Review Notes for Archdiocesan Exam as well as the following:
*Exact words of ALL TEN COMMANDMENTS and ways a fourth grader would obey each one
*ALL Corporal and Spritual Works of Mercy and ways to practice each which are called Practical 
*ALL Joyful Mysteries and a description of each
*ALL steps involved in making a good moral choice (in notebook) and examples of how feelings are not an accurate sign of whether one has made a right or wrong moral choice (feelig good about a  wrong choice or bad about a right choice)
*Exact words of Jesus' Two Great Commandments and Jesus' New Commandment
*Exact words of ALL Beatitudes and what each of the terms means (see sheet of notes on this)

ELA Study ALL notes in Journal related to the American Revolution especially vocabulary definitions. Distinguish first, second, third person. Review using idioms. 
* Review Sojourner's speech "Ain't I a Woman?" to cite evidence of what you learned from her
* Review Patrick Henry's speech "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death." to cite evidence of what you learned. Review Ben Franklin 's idion adages and what they mean. Review living as a revolutionary war soldier using apprpriate vocabulary.

THIRD GRADE
RELIGION: Study primarily the definitions for vocabulary words and sample essay questions on review sheet as well as the following:
*Describing the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Echarist in detail
*Retelling any of the following  parables and explaining what lesson it teaches: The Prodigal Son,  The Sower of the Seeds,  The Good Samaritan
*Exact words of Jesus' Two Great Commandments  and how to practice these
*Exact words of ALL TEN COMMANDMENTS and ways a third grader would obey each one
*Examples of Jesus' miracles Jesus performed.

ELA Study ALL notes in Journal related to the preamble and the presidency.
* Review writing an acrostic poem using a term from the preamble. 
*Describe the difference between the legislative, judicial, and the executuve branches of the government.
*Review comparing two presidents listing 2 similarites and 3 differences

SECOND GRADE
RELIGION:  Study primarily the definitions for vocabulary words and sample essay questions on review sheet as well as the following:
*Retelling the parables of  The Forgiving Father   (same as The Prodigal Son) and The Good Shepherd(same as The Lost Sheep) and explaining the lesson each parable is teaching
*Exact words of ALL TEN COMMANDMENTS and ways a third grader would obey each one
*Preparing for Reconciliation by examining one's conscience which means thinking about one's sins and which commandments one has broke

THIRD GRADE NEEDS TO STUDY THE  CORRECT SEQUENCE OF BOTH LITURGY OF THE WORD AND LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST  AND THE MASS RESPONSES AS LISTED THE  RELIGION NOTEBOOK FOR TOMORROW!  FOURTH GRADERS NEDD TO COPY THE ELA DEFINITIONS FROM THE LOOSELEAF NEATLY IN THEIR JOURNAL AS WELL AS TWO SAMPLES OF EACH : astro-   -ology   -ologist WORDS  WITH DEFINITIONS IN THEIR JOURNALS FOR STUDY.  ELA QUIZ  WILL BE NEXT FRIDAY (on Unit 5)
*Memorizing four steps of Reconcilation and what one one means
*Memorizing the Act of Contrition
*Describing the sacrament of Baptism in detail including symbols, their meaning, people present, and purpose of the sacrament.

Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades for 5/6 to 5/10

Dear Parents,
         This week there will be Mass for Ascension Thursday at 9:00. The Religion Test will also be given to all classes this week so ake sure to study the Review sheet for your grade including   vocabulary and sample essay questions. On Friday third grade will be working on PBL so research on Mary's feast day must be ready.  Next week on May 13, 14, 15 ALL students will be taking the UNIT 4 Test in ALL SUBJECTS.  For ELA study all notes in Journal for UNIT 4 only. ( Unit 5 work will not be included.)   Please check below for this week's homework:

FOURTH GRADE
ELA 5/7 Tues.  Look up the definitions of the following words and write on looseleaf in script the definition of the following: astronomy, astrology, constellation, eclipse,  galaxy, universe, deity. heroic, mythology.
On another sheet of looseleaf  write heading.  Write six different words that begin with the prefix astro- and include a short definition for each. Next write three different words with suffix -ology, and three words with the suffix -ologist  and again include  a brief defintion for each.

REL.5/9 Thurs. Review for Religion quiz . Research information about a saint.  On looseleaf write the saint's name as a title.  Write a paragraph of eight sentences including introduction and conclusion explaining what the saint did during his/her lifetime that caused this person to be recognized as a saint.  Give specific details unique to that saint based on actual research. One or two sentences may describe how this saint inspires you to act toward others.

THIRD GRADE
REL 5/7 Tues. Research information on the feast day of the Blessed Mother you are assigned in class.  On looseleaf write a title.  The introduction should state the name of the feast day and when it is celebrated.  The rest of the report should describe why, how, and where in the world the feast day is celebrated.  The report should be two pargraphs between 8 to 12 sentences long and include a conclusion.

ELA 5/9 Thurs. Create a large Venn diagram on blank paper. Compare your chosen planet with a different planet (including Earth if you.  Neatly list TWO SIMILARITIES and THREE DIFFERENCES between the planets.  Remember that differences must be on same topic (eg. first in orbit arond the sun /  fourth in orbit around the sun  OR  Has two moons  /  Has no moons)

SECOND GRADE
ELA 5/7 Tues. Research a place you would like to visit.  On looseleaf write a title.  Write a paragraph  of six sentences.starting with an  introduction.  Write three details about this place.  Then explain what you think about this place based on these details. Write a conclusion.

REL. 5/9  Thurs.  Study Review notes in notebook for quiz.  On looseleaf write a heading and answer the following questions in complete sentences.  1. How does one prepare for Reconciliation? 2. Name and describe the four steps of Reconciliation. 3, Complete the following said during confession:  Bless me Father ... 4.Name TWO  sins and write the words of the commandments they break.
