BLOG HAS BEEN UPDATED!   SEE ADDITIONAL WORK BELOW FOR THURSDAY!
Dear Parents,
This Friday dismissal is at 12:00 and Progress Reports will de given out in class.  You will notice that the Speaking/Listening area is blank. This is because these areas must be  included as part of their Composition grade (as noted on the SIS) in order for the grades to appear properly on the report cards.   ITBS testing will continue this week: Reading on Tuesday and Written Expression on Wednesday (2nd grade only will also have Language on Thursday).
The Project Based Learning Presentation on St. Francis of Assisi by all  home room classes will be on November 2nd. In third grade several students have already been filmed doing their speeches.  This week third grade students will write their compositions in class based on the research they have done. The first paragraph will be on the life of St. Francis and the second must be information about a written work of his such as canticle, prayer, letter, story. etc.  They will need to rewrite their edited rough copy in script.  Their final copy on looseleaf will be put on construction paper and be  the "centerpiece" of their display board. The board should include a printed copy of the written work by St. Francis that they chose to write about in their composition.  The rest of the display board should have a variety of pictures related to St. Francis such as real life images, statues, stained - glass images, medals, St.Francis ' Church or School, etc.. A brief caption should be taped under each  to identify the picture.  Pictures  should be about 8x10 inches.  I will let you know when display boards are available in the supply room. If  ALL is taped with clear tape or double-stick tape, it will be possible to remove pictures and the display board can be reused for our folowing project.
A look ahead!  Our Religion fair is coming up on Nov. 20th.  SECOND grade will be assigned a SAINT from the web site.  THIRD grade will be assigned a SACRAMENT to research.   FOURTH grade will be assigned one COMMANDMENT to explain.  Once again presentations will be on display boards. This will be thoroughly explained in class.
Next week Unit Tests will be given  based on test questions from all quizzes given since September as well as a choice of essay questions that require students to do more higher order thinking. Unit tests in Religion and Science will be given on Oct. 22; ELA and Social Studies on  Oct. 23; Reading and Math on Oct. 24. Safe Environment will be covered next week as well in all Religion classes which deals with students protecting themselves from predators and bullies.  NO other homework will be given this week so students can focus on reviewing for Unit tests next week.
As always, I will try to keep you informed of what is ahead and appreciate very much your cooperation in these matters.
