Homework for Feb. 26 to Mar. 2 for Class 1-2

Dear Parents,
          I have assigned three Science articles on www.student.frontrowed.com  for students to study for this week's quiz on THURSDAY as well as Science notes on Animal Groups in their notebooks.  If students click on assignments (which shows #3), there are two articles on Animal Parts (levels 1.0 and 2.3) and one article on Camouflage (level 1.5). Students are to read carefully and answer the questions for all three articles on-line.
       I have also assigned a new set of five leveled readers on www.pearsonrealize but these won't be available until Friday so that students may read them over the weekend.  Questions will be assigned on these NEXT WEEK. The readers are titled: Grandma's Farm, Bread, We Can Help, A Stand for Tim, and A Penny Saved.

Homework for Feb. 26
***Please send in set of nine quizzes signed if you have not done so.

Math- Do pp. 13 and 14.  Please bring in 10 dimes and 10 pennies in a plastic snack bag if possible.

Science- Read and answer questions on the three Science articles on www.student.frontrowed.com .

Homework for Feb. 27
Math- Do pp. 17 and 18.
Science- Cut out each of the animals NEATLY and glue them in the correct column that shows in  what animal group each belongs. BE SURE TO SORT THEM BY THE CHARACTERISTICS OF EACH GROUP LISTED IN YOUR NOTEBOOK.  If you are sure, look it up on line!

There will be an assessment based on the Science articles assigned yesterday on frontrow.
***Those who missed Handwriting today must do pp. 46-47 (on Baptism) by Thursday.

Homework for Feb. 28
Math- Do pp. 21 and 22.
Phonics- Do pp. 162 and 163.
Science - Quiz tomorrow!  Study Science notes on animal groups and the animal sorting homework sheet you did.  Be able to tell which  animal groups have something in common (alike). Watch the video again-click on this link:   animal groups.    Be sure to read articles on frontrow  again.
***Those who missed Handwriting today must do pp. 48 and 49 (Mm) by Friday.

Homework for Mar. 1 
Math- Do pp. 27 and 28.
Phonics- Read pp. 165-166. Do pp. 167 and 168.
***Those who missed Handwriting must do pp. 50 and 51 (about  Blessed Mother) by tomorrow.
***Tomorrow is Dr. Seuss' Birthday!  Dress up if you can! Contest will be at 1:00 for 1st grade.

Homework for Mar. 2
Math - Do pp. 33, 34, and 35.
Social Studies- On loose leaf  write a full heading. Answer two questions in text book p. 137.  Look up answers so you spell and capitalize correctly.
****On www.pearsonrealize.com log in. Find the new set of  five leveled e readers and read each of the following books:  Grandma's Farm, Bread, We Can Help, A Stand for Tim, and A Penny Saved.   Do not answer the questions yet; they will be assigned during the week.
***The on-line Selection Test on Hunter's Money Jar  will be given next week--probably Tuesday!

Homework for Feb. 19 to 23 for Class 1-2

Dear Parents,
          Thank you very much for your beautiful gifts on Valentine's Day. I appreciate your thoughtfulness.  This Wed. the first grade is scheduled to have their musical performance at 8:30, so please come early. All students should wear dress UP clothes.  NEXT Friday, March 2 is Dr. Seuss Day, so all students can dress up as one of his book characters or Dr. Seuss himself.  Usually 2 or 3 students are chosen from each class for the contest in the auditorium.

Lesson Plan

Homework for Feb. 20
Math - Do pp. 67 and 68. Review workbook pp. 23, 32, 34, 39, and 61, and 62 for quiz tomorrow, Wed. Exit tickets 10 to 13 were sent home but quiz will cover BOTH measuring and data.
Religion- In Reflections do pp. 34 and 35.  On the lines write three sentences explaining fasting, almsgiving, and doing Stations of the Cross: one sentence explaining each one.  Draw a picture doing ONE of these Lenten practices.
***I have assigned the book Hunter's Money Jar  on www.pearsonrealize for you to review at home.

Homework for Feb. 21
Phonics - Read p. 155 and do pp. 156 and 157. Follow directions!
Social Studies- On loose leaf write a full heading. Answer the THREE questions on p. 129. Find the answers on pp. 126 to 129.
ELA - Study meaning of vocabulary words: coins, bills, chores, count, shiny, bossy for assessment
No Math homework tonight!



Homework for Feb. 22
Math -  Starting Module 4  in the same workbook: do pp. 3 and 4.
Phonics- Do pp. 158 and 159.  Follow directions.
Religion- Study Chapter 10 for quiz tomorrow.  Be able to explain what Jesus wanted the apostles to do.

Homework for Feb. 23
Math - Do pp. 7 and 8
Phonics - Do pp. 160 and 161. Read and follow directions!
Science- Watch video at least two times. Click on this link:   animal groups       Take notes if you wish because I will be asking you questions and testing you next week on what is presented here.
***Please sign all quizzes and return by Monday.  These are 3 Phonics, 2 Religion, 2 Math , 1 Science, and 1 Social Studies.
***Today students received two flyers from Scholastic. If they wish to order books, please make out a check or money order for the correct amount to Scholastic Books no later than next Friday.
Students also received some information on nutritious eating!

Homework for Feb. 12 to 16 for Class 1-2

Dear Parents,
         This week Valentine's Day falls on Ash Wednesday. We will have Mass at 10:30 but students should wear red clothes and students may bring money for a bake sale but no parties are allowed.  On Thursday Ms. Wong and.I will be attending a Math workshop so I will leave work for all students to complete. On Friday, we will have our class party to celebrate a belated Valentine Day and also the Chinese New Year! I will be ordering pizza and bringing in chips so I am asking each student to bring in $3.00 no later than Tuesday.  Each student should bring in their own juice containers as well as some Valentine treat to share with the class. There will be three quizzes this week: Math (on measuring), ELA (on The Winner's Choice), and Science (notes to be given on Mon. for quiz on Fri.).

Lesson Plan

Homework for Feb. 12
Math - Study Math workbook pp.1 to 52 and all corrected exit tickets 1 to 9.  I also STRONGLY suggest that students work on the measurement section in Math on www.student.frontrowed.com.
Phonics - Do pp. 139-140. On p.140 write at least three sentences.
ELA-  Study ELA vocabulary definitions in notebook. Read over The Winner's Choice and be able to describe what happens at the beginning, middle, and end. There will be a short assessment on this.
*** Please check your child's folder for a set of four sheets on Jesus' Parables which the children will be studying this year. Students should keep these in their folders along with the set of  Jesus' Miracles I gave out before the Religion Fair.  You may make an extra copy of each to keep at home if you wish or in case your child loses them.  Have your child read and study these whenever possible.

Homework for Feb. 13
Math -  Do pp. 54 and 55.  On p. 55 put tally marks under Number of Students.
Religion- In Reflections book do pp. 24 and 25.  On p. 25 write a prayer of THREE SENTENCES. Begin your prayer with one of the suggestions on p. 24. Draw and color your picture.

Science - Study Science notes in notebook for quiz on Friday.
***Wear RED tomorrow and bring money for the bake sale.

Homework for Feb. 14
Math - Do pp. 59 and 60. This work is not due until this Friday.
Phonics- Do pp. 143 and 144. Follow directions.
Science- Study all notes 1 to 7 for quiz on Friday.
Religion - Study Chapter 10.
***Anyone who missed Handwriting must be pp. 38, 39, 40, and 41.
*** For party on Friday bring your own juice (2 small containers) and your Valentine or Chinese New Year treat to share with the class.
*** ALL CLASSWORK ASSIGNED IN CLASS FOR THURSDAY MUST BE COMPLETED BY FRIDAY MORNING.  I WILL BE CHECKING!

*NO Homework for Thursday except to finish classwork and review for Science quiz.

Homework for Feb. 16
Math -Do pp. 63 and 64.  READ CAREFULLY. Use your cubes to help you figure out each problem!
Math quiz next week on Measurement and Data. The most important workbook pages to review are pp. 23, 32, 34, 39, and 61, and 62.
Exit tickets will be sent home Monday when we complete Module 3.
Religion quiz next week- Study Chapter 10.

Below is a copy of the Classwork that should have been completed on Thursday. Be sure it's done!
Phonics:  Do pp. 145, 146, and 148.  Read p. 147, 151, 152.
Social Studies:  On loose leaf write a full heading.  Answer SS Workbook p. 34
Religion:  Review Chapter 10.  Answer pp.128, 129, and 130 in the book.
Math:  Answer workbook pp. 61 and 62.  Follow directions in the book.

Homework for Feb. 6 to 9 for Class 1-2

Dear Parents,
          This Tuesday results of the MAP testing for this winter in both Reading and Math for each student are being sent home along with a parents' guide to reading the scores.


Lesson Plan

Homework for Feb. 6
Math - Do pp. 34 and 35 in the Math workbook.
ELA- Choose one of the leveled readers you read over the weekend and answer in complete sentences the THREE questions at the end of the story.  Be sure write a full heading and the title of the book (in capital letters) before you answer the questions. Sloppy, incomplete work will not be accepted.
Religion-Study Chapter 9 for Religion quiz tomorrow.  Be able to explain the story of  The Good Shepherd and the lesson it teaches.

Homework for Feb. 7
Math-  Do pp. 39 and 41.  Tear out page 39 (p. 41 has already been torn out) and use the large and small paper clip strips in the child's folder.  Use these to measure-- NOT anything else!
ELA- Choose ANOTHER of the leveled readers you read over the weekend and answer in complete sentences the THREE questions at the end of the story.  Be sure write a full heading and the title of the book (in capital letters) before you answer the questions. SEVERAL STUDENTS HAVE NOT DONE THE FIRST. IF NOT DONE BY TOMORROW I WILL NEED TO ENTER ZERO!!!
***Religion quiz will need to be given tomorrow.
***Social Studies quiz  is on Friday.  Begin reviewing the definitions in the notebook.
***Those who missed Handwriting today need to do pp. 34-35 Hh no later than  Friday.

Homework for Feb. 8
Math - Do pp. 44 and 45. PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW EVERYONE OF THE DIRECTIONS!

ELA- Choose ONE MORE of the leveled readers you read over the weekend and answer in complete sentences the THREE questions at the end of the story.  Be sure write a full heading and the title of the book (in capital letters) before you answer the questions.

Social Studies -Quiz is tomorrow.  Memorize ALL nine definitions in the notebook and study textbook pp. 118 to 125.

Homework for Feb. 9
Math- Do pp. 50, 51, and 52.  Students MUST use the set of 8 cubes given in class which all have been told to keep in their bookbags.
***Math quiz next Tuesday on measuring. Study Math workbook pp.1 to 52 and all corrected exit tickets 1 to 9.  I also STRONGLY suggest that students work on the measurement section in Math on www.student.frontrowed.com.  We practiced this in school on Thursday so students would know what to do!
***ELA on-line Selection Test on The Winner's Choice  on Wed.  Study ELA vocabulary definitions in notebook  and RWJ pp. 151, 153, 155, 160.  Be able to tell what happens at the beginning, middle, and end of the story The Winner's Choice  .
***Those who missed Handwriting must do pp. 36-37.
***Last week all students should have answered the questions in the back of THREE leveled readers I assigned -only one each day!  Although all the books were available on line since the previous weekend, in order to help those in after school, I left copies of the books with the after school teacher (since the books cannot be sent home).  There should not be any excuse for not completing the work!
IF NOT COMPLETED BY MONDAY, I WILL DEFINITELY ENTER 0.
