Dear Parents,
This Ash Wednesday our third grade clas will be leading the Mass. All students should be in uniform. This Friday there is no school due to a Religion Conference Day for teachers and on the following Monday for President's Day. Last Friday students in all grades took their Religion quiz. This week I will be giving only an ELA quiz on Wed. Please see below for a study guide for each grade.
FOURTH GRADE
2/9 ELA Quiz is tomorrow.*Study vocabulary definitions and notes in ELA notebook on distinguishing the elements of prose, poetry, and drama. Be sure to srefer to the web site: http://mhschool.com/lead_21/grade4/ccslh_g4_rl_1_2c.html.
*Study Phonics pp. 37 to 47 (prefixes and suffixes)
*Study Progress Book pp. 118 to 122.
2/11 Religion- Study Chapter 11. MEMORIZE the Corporal Works and Spiitual Works of Mercy. Think of ways to practice each as discussed in class. Study also pp.232 to 234.
ELA - Review Progress Book pp. 134 to 138 for quiz next week. Answer p. 139 on looseleaf. Directions say to write entire paragraph over correctly.
THIRD GRADE
2/9 ELA Quz is tomorrow.*Study vocabulary definitions in ELA notebook..
*Study Grammar Workshop pp. 28 to 35 (simple, compund, complex sentences)
*Study Phonics pp, 51 to 57 (syllables and beginning & final blends)
*Study the ELA notes on the fable "The Wolf and the Lean Dog" including the moral.
2/11 Religion - Study pp. 232 -234 in text book and notes on the parts of the Mass in Rel. notebook.
Know the correct order of the parts of the Mass, the responses,and what happens in each.
ELA - Review simple, compund, complex sentences in Grammar Workshop. On looseleaf write a heading. Answer the Guided Practice and Independent Practice on pp. 223 and 224 in Progress Book.
SECOND GRADE
2/9 ELA Quiz is tomorrow.*Study only the following definitions in the ELA notebook : glimpse, sanctuary, securely, spectators, tending, amusing, foresight, hindsight, ridiculous, terrifying.
*Study multiple meaning word: pine and study synonyms for retrieve
*Study the characteristics of a Greek myth and copy in ELA notebook:
Aim: To learn the characteristics of a Greek myth
* to try to explain stories about nature in an unrealistic way (myth of Demeter on the seasons)
*to include supernatural beings (gods and goddesses) and supernaturnal events (transformation)
* to help us learn about the ancient Greek culture
*Study how to use the Somebody-Wanted- But-So-Then strategy in the ELA notebook.

Religion - Study pp 232-234 in textbook about Lent.
ELA- On loosleaf write a full heading. Choose ONE of the characters and complete a Somebody-Wanted- But-So-Then chart. Follow the sample in your ELA notebook.
