Important Notices for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th grades for Nov. 10 to 14.

Dear Parents,
On Thursday each student received from their home room teacher  a sheet or sheets with test results. The NWEA refers to the computer based test they took recently.  This sheet shows how students performed  in the different areas of Math, Reading, and ELA.  Any area marked in yellow is an area of WEAKNESS that needs to be given attention. In the ELA section Grammar refers to word usage, how ideas are expressed. Mechanics refers  mostly to use of  capitalization and punctuation.  Writing refers to how ideas are organized and how well students revise their written work. Each teacher left a comment suggesting what might help bring improvement to any area of weakness.  Some students also received an attached sheet listing ITBS and NYSESLAT test scores for last year only  IF  there is any area of weakness that needs attention. ALL PARENTS NEED TO SIGN EACH FORM AND SEND BOTH BACK ON MONDAY!
This is a reminder also that ALL TEST FOLDERS ARE DUE BACK ON MONDAY WITH ALL FOUR ELA AND FOUR RELIGION QUIZZES INSIDE EACH SIGNED BY THE PARENT.
Thank you to all parents who sent in cans for the poor this week.  If you have not yet done so, PLEASE SEND IN AT LEAST THREE CANS OF FOOD FOR THE POOR BY MONDAY as well.
One last reminder!  Homework assigned last week on Thursday is due on Monday.  I posted it again below to make it easier.

 FOURTH
11/10 On the sheet "My Quilt Square" draw a picture of  ONE symbol representing an important event in your family.  In the four corners draw different pictures describing that event. Then on looseleaf  write a full heading, the title My Quilt Square, and one paragraph of six to eight sentences about the symbol, what it represents, and why it is important to you and your family.  This is due on Monday! Sheet was given out on Wed
Also please remember to reread the article in the following link and make a print out of it if possible:  From Knee to CD: The Evolution of Oral Tradition in Mountain Ballads.  There will be an assessment on this on Monday (not a quiz).

THIRD
11/10 In My Librarian Is a Camel, read carefully the section on Mongolia and be able to answer questions on it. On the sheet given in class draw lines and write the title The Power of Reading. Then write two paragraphs of six sentences each.  The first paragraph should explain why you want the power of reading.  The second paragraph should refer to any  of the characters in Thank You, Mr. Falker, Nasareen's Secret School, Waiting for the Biblioburro, The Boy Who Loved Words, Rain School, or The Incredible Book Eating Boy and explain how they learn to appreciate the power of reading.

SECOND
11/10 On looseleaf write a full heading. Answer pp. 102 and 103 in Voyages Workbook.  Use your OWN ideas for p. 103 and make sure you complete the writing and the pictures.

Finally, there will be NO quiz this Monday for ELA or Religion. Please check back on Saturday or Sunday for any additional notices. Enjoy the long weekend and thank you for your cooperation.
