Review Vocabulary Definitions for ELA Final Exam for Fourth, Third, and Second Grades and Social Studies for Second Grade

Below are ELA vocabulary definitions for third grade taken from the articles on water conservation

*pollution- harmful gases that are released contaminating the air, soil, or water
*pollutants- dirt, bacteria, and nutrients that pollute water bodies
*bacteria- microscopic living organism that can be beneficial or harmful
*nutrient- substance providing nourishment needed for growth
*polluted runoffs - rain washing over landscape carrying dirt into water bodies
*diarrheal disease- sickness spread through water infected by human or animal feces
*play pump- invention that pumps clean water up from underground and stores it in tanks
*drought- a dry spell with no rain caused by a change in ocean temperature
*irrigation- supply of water to crops by artificial means (such as pipes)
*global warming- current increase in temperature of Earth's land, water, and atmosphere
*sewer system- process used to carry away water and waste away from homes and other buildings
*conservation- the act of preserving, restoring, or protecting our natural resources
*challenge- difficulty in doing a job or task
*restriction- limit on how much water can be used
*access- ability to have or use something
*demand- how much of something people want
*evaporation- water that turns into water vapor, a gas,  when heated
*condensation- water vapor that turns back into water, a liquid, when cooled
*precipitation- liquid that falls from the clouds as rain or snow
*severe- harsh, serious, terrible
