As you know there is NO SCHOOL on Monday for our class. There will be a Social Studies and Science quiz this week so I am listing the vocabulary definitions and notes below for both subjects so that you can begin reviewing. These definitions should be written into their notebooks each under their correct heading and STUDIED! PLEASE REMEMBER TO SEND BACK PROGRESS REPORTS SIGNED BY TUESDAY!!!!!!

Homework for Oct. 23
Social Studies - Review in text book pp. G4 to G9 and pp. 40 to 51. In the notebook write a complete heading (see previous pages) and copy all neatly.
1. map - flat model of the earth
2. globe - round model of the earth
3. symbols - shapes, colors, or pictures which stand for something on a map. Symbols are listed in a map key.
4. directions - north, south, east, west. East is to the right. West is to the left. A compass rose shows directions on a map.
5. continents - large bodies of land. There are seven: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, Antartica .
6. oceans - large bodies of water. There are four: Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Artic
7. countries - parts of a continent. Canada, United States, Mexico are countries in North America. OUR country is the United States. It is made up of fifty states.
8. New York - name of both our state and our city
Science - In the notebook write a complete heading (see previous pages) and copy all neatly.
1. full moon - phase when the moon is a fully lighted circle
2. new moon - phase when the moon is dark so we see no moon at all
3. crescent moon - phase when a lighted slice of the moon
4. rotation - the earth rotates or spins. It takes 24 hours and gives us day and night.
5. revolution - the earth revolves around the sun. It takes 365 days or one year and gives us the four seasons
6. orbit - path of each planet around the sun. Earth is in third orbit closest to the sun
7. gravity - force that keeps the earth in its orbit around the sun
8. moon - revolves around the earth. It takes about a month.

Math- Do pp. 121 and 122 in the workbook
Phonics-Do pp. 17, 18, 19, 20.
Social Studies - Quiz tomorrow. Review in text book pp. G4 to G9 and pp. 40 to 51 and definitions of SS words above which should be in your notebook.
Homework for Oct. 25
*If you have not done so, be sure to have all Science and Social Studies definitions in your notebook no later than Thursday!
Math- Do pp. 127 and 128. BE SURE TO READ AND FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS. Check back on your past corrected homework pages (for example p. 112) !!!!
Phonics-Do pp. 21, 22, 23, 24 in the workbook
Science- Quiz tomorrow or Friday. Review all Science vocabulary definitions listed above which should be in your notebook and in Earth Science review pp. 10, 11, 14. 15. 16.
Homework for Oct 26
Math - Do pp. 133 and 134 in the workbook. READ DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY!!!
FSW - Do pp. 25, 26, 27 in the workbook. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!
***Science Quiz will be given tomorrow. Please review well!
* If you have not done so, please sign the sheet showing the Map Test results and return by tomorrow.
There is another sheet in your child's folder regarding scores. This one you may keep for your records.
Homework for Oct. 27
Math - Do pp. 137 and 138 in the workbook. Review all new corrected Math exit tickets I sent home for Math quiz next week.
ELA - On the next page of the notebook, have students write a full heading CORRECTLY. Write ELA as the subject and copy each word and definition. Be sure to number each and skip a line after each definition.
1. time - moment
2. sorts - kinds, types
3. upside down - flipped
4. locked - stiff, straight
5. danger - harm
6. tuck - push in, fold
7. high - above, over
8. hang- dangle
SS- Since some students did not do well on this last Social Studies quiz, I will review again next week and give two assessments to see if these students do better. The assessments will count as a classwork grade so please have your child review pp. G4 to G9 and pp. 40 to 51 and SS definitions in the notebook.
Quizzes will be sent home on Monday and should be returned signed by Friday!
Please send in $3.00 on Monday so I can order pizza for the class on Halloween. On Tuesday students should come dressed in their costumes. Each student should bring in their own small juices (no large bottles) and TWO bags of treats as well as an empty plastic pumpkin or trick or treat bag. One bag of treats is to be distributed to the pre k children who will walking around in the morning for trick or treat. The other bag is for our own class to share in the afternoon: candy, cupcakes, chips, cookies, extra juice containers, etc. Students may also bring in money for a bake sale they are having if they wish. I will only be doing Halloween type activities that day and there will be no homework!
