Fourth Grade Midterm Review Notes

RELIGION

Look up and learn the definitions of the following words: conscience, forgiveness, justice, repent,
grace, Church, Savior, peace, mission, free will, gospel, examination of conscience, Pentecost,
Kingdom of God, Incarnation

Know the difference between the following: venial / mortal / original sin; omision / commission / social
sin; apostle / disciple; Blessed Trinity / Holy Family; temptation / sin

Study the meaning of the four stages of Reconciliation: confession, penance, contrition, absolution

Study the Beatitudes and be ready to choose one and explain what it means in your life .

Review the parables of The Good Samaritan (pp. 48-49) and The Prodigal Son (pp. 56-57) .
Be ready to describe a similar situation that might happen today for both of these parables.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Know the definition of the following words: prehistory, ancestor, clan, heritage, natural resource,
time line, climate, colony, culture, artifacts, tax, governor, manor, glacier, conservation

Know the difference between the following: lines of longitude (meridians) / lines of latitude (parallels);
plain / plateau; geography / history; pollution / precipitation; wampum / sachem

Be able to identify the following : Minuit - bought Manhattan from the Lenni Lenape; Zenger - his
trial led to freedom of the press; Verrazano - was the first European to reach New York;
Champlain - his contact with the Iroquois made them enemies with the French

Be ready to answer the following questions: What is the height of land above sea level called?
How were moraines, drumlines, and till formed? What is a source of the Hudson River?
Why did the Dutch West India Company want the colonists to go to New York? Where was the
first European settlement in New York? How many regions is New York divided into?
In what part of the United States is New York State found? What helps create a strong economy?
In what kind of homes did most Native Americans in N.Y. live? Is water a renewable or nonrenewable
resource? What body of water forms part of New York's northern border? What was the cause of
peace between the Iriquois groups?

For the Document Based Question, students will need to answer questions on several documents.
Then they will need to write an essay of three paragraphs with six sentences in each on the
information gathered from the documents.
