Third Grade Midterm Exam Notes

RELIGION

Look up and learn the definitions for the following words: Ascension, Pentecost, Incarnation, Resurrection,
Reconciliation, Kingdom of God, Blessed Trinity, Holy Family, Church, Bible, prophet, apostle, disciple,
ministry, heaven, mission, crucify, repent

Know the identity of Jesus (Son of God), Joseph (Jesus' foster father and carpenter), John the Baptist (Jesus'
cousin and prophet)

Know where Jesus was born (Bethlehem) and where he grew up (Nazareth).
Jesus' name means God saves.

Know Jesus' Greatest Commandments: "To love God with all your heart..."

Know the meaning of the last judgment and Jesus' second coming at the end of the world.

Study the ten commandments given to us by God, especially the last three. Choose one of these and
be ready to explain what it means to you and why it is important.

Study the seven sacraments. Be ready to choose one and explain what symbols are used, who is present,
and what happens.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Know the definitions of the following words: pollution, slavery, technology, community, culture,
living history museum, mission, independence, recycle, citizen, history, artifact, colony, volunteer,
coast, mesa

Know the difference between the following: rural / urban; climate / weather; plateau / canyon;
bay / peninsula; environment / geography; equator / hemisphere

Be ready to answer these questions: Who was the leader of the Jamestown settlement? Where did
the slaves in the colonies come from? What did John Rolfe begin growing that improved life in
Jamestown? Where was the early English settlement in Virginia? Who is the daughter of a famous
Native American leader? What kind of natural resource are iron and salt? Where did the Anasazi live?
Is language a part of culture? How do wildlife animals live? How is a kiva used? How is a port used?

For the Document Based Question students will need to answer questions on three documents
and then write an essay of two paragraphs with six sentences in each on the information gathered
from the documents.
