Second Grade 5/26 - 5/29

Social Studies

Know definitions for the following:
law, tax, resource, monument, tribe, community, graph, income, factory, budget, suburb,
capital city, capitol building, pioneer, settler, canoe, vote, citizen

Know government leaders: country: president state: governor city: mayor

Know departments: fire, police, sanitation (for cleaning), recreation (for parks)

Know the different landforms and water bodies.

Know facts about our flag and our other country's symbols.

Know facts about George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Martin L. King.

Know how money is used: income, taxes, and fines (paid for disobeying the law)

Know where the Pilgrims came from and where they settled.

Know difference between: natural features (hill) and man-made features (bridge)
products (food) and service (haircut)

Students should think about how celebrating holidays, visiting landmarks, and practicing different customs are ways of honoring our country.

Religion

Know definitions for the following:

church, prayer, sin, grace, heaven, hell, charity, host, scripture, vestment,examination of
conscience, confession, contrition, penance, absolution, tabernacle

Know what happens in the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Know difference between the Blessed Trinity an the Holy Family (Who is Joseph?)

Know what the Blessed Sacrament is and where it is kept.

Review the following terms: Advent, Lent, Pentecost, Nativity, Epiphany, Incarnation,
Crucifixion, Resurrection, Ascension, Assumption, Immaculate Conception (to honor Mary)

Be able to explain in each of the seven sacraments, especially Baptism , Reconciliaton, Eucharist.
Be able to name each of the ten commandments and explain what each one means.

Students should be able to choose two commandments, write what they are, and explain
how they practice obeying these in their daily lives.

Students should also be able to explain what happens in each of the following and what it means:
The Prodigal Son (The Forgiving Father)
The Wedding Banquet (Wedding of Cana)
The Lost Sheep (The Good Shepherd)
The Multiplication of the Loaves and Fish (Feeding of the Crowd)
