Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades for April 27 to May 1

Dear Parents,
         Please be sure that all students bring in the homework assigned last Thursday no later than this Tuesday. All students will need to bring in rosary beads by Wednesday. All students should also be in school uniform for Mass that day as well as on Thursday. There will be no quiz this Monday but there will be an ELA quiz this Friday and a Religion quiz next Monday. Please see below for this week's homework and the week's vocabulary words that should be copied their ELA notebooks.

FOURTH GRADE
ELA 4/28 Practice at least 30 questions on each of the following: TT3  and TT4 on Greek and Latin roots.  Study the figures of speech definitions and examples  on http://mrswarnerarlington.weebly.com/figurative-language.html

 Copy the following vocabulary definitions in ELA notebook and STUDY:
stanza- a set of lines or verses in poetry
simile- comparison using like or as
metaphor- direct comparison  not using like or as
personification - human characteristics are given to an animal or object
alliteration - repetition of same initial letter or sound
onomatopoeia - use of a word to imitate a natural sound
hyperbole - a dramatic exaggeration

THIRD GRADE
ELA 4/28 Practice at least 30 questions on each of the following: OO4 and OO7 on use of suffixes.

Copy the following vocabulary definitions in ELA notebook and STUDY:
root word - main part of a word
suffix - a word part added to the end of a word (eg -ly, -ment)
government-people in charge of controlling, directing, and managing the Constitution
Congress-a formal meeting in which representatives of a nation discuss important matters
Bill of Rights- collective name for the first ten amendments to the US Constitution
Supreme Court-highest court of the judicial branch of the government

SECOND GRADE
ELA 4/28 Practice at least 30 questions on each of the following: E2  (regular plural nouns) and F2  (irregular plural nouns).

Copy the following vocabulary definitions in ELA notebook and STUDY:
fable - a fictional story usually with animal characters that has a moral (lesson)
temporal words- words used to show sequence: first, next, then. last
narrative-writing that tells a story
event- an action happening  in a story
summarize- to write a short version of a story by stating only the main points
