Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades for 4/7 to 4/11 UPDATED ON 4/9

Dear Parents,
           Be aware that dismissal this Thursday is at 12:00 and Friday's dismissal is at 11:00.  Report cards will be distributed on Thursday and Parent-Teacher conferences will be from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Honors will be distributed after Stations of the Cross on Friday after Stations of the Cross which is scheduled for 8:30.  Classroom Easter parties will be held from 9:00 to 11:00. I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ORDER PIZZA SINCE IT IS TOO EARLY FOR MOST DELEVERIES. INSTEAD  PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILDREN BRING EITHER ONE BOX OF COOKIES, ONE BAG OF  DIFFERENT CHOCOLATE CANDY, OR ONE LARGE BAG OF SNACK (DORITOS, ETC.) EACH STUDENT SHOULD BRING THEIR OWN JUICE (S).   Students also need to bring in two strong plastic or fabric bags to pack up their books for the vacation.  But students should take home Religion books and notebooks in order to review well for Archdiocesan Exam as well as for Math  State Exam. HOMEWORK FOR EASTER VACATION FOR EACH GRADE IS LISTED BELOW.                    
  I SENT HOME TWO UNIT 4 TESTS THIS WEEK-ELA AND RELIGION -THIS WEEK. PLEASE HAVE STUDENTS BRING THEM BACK SIGNED AFTER VACATION.   Thank you.

FOURTH GRADE
4/9  ELA  On looseleaf   write the title : What We All Have in Common.  Look up the poems: “Dreams” by Langston Hughes, “Humanity” by Elma Stuckey, and “They Were My People” by Grace Nichols.   In two paragraphs explain how these poems express emotions we all have in common citing evidence from the poems. Write an introduction and conclusion.

4/9 REL Be sure to work on all the following:
*Study the definitions of all vocabulary words listed in notebook under aim: To review for Archdiocesan exam as well as ALL notes that follow these words.
*Look up and practice answering all essay questions listed in notebook.
 *Review all definitions of words on  flashcards for Units 1,2,3, and 4 on www.sadlierreligion.com.

 *Study notes listing the Beatitudes and explaining the meaning of each.

Be sure to memorize the following:
*each of the Ten Commandments  (and specific ways in which YOU practice each of these)
*Jesus'  Two Great Commandments
*Jesus' New Commandment
 *each of the Beatitudes (Sermon on the Mount)
*Corporal Works of Mercy
*Spiritual Works of Mercy
*Practical Works of Mercy  (specific ways in which we practice these works of mercy)
*each of the five Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary
*the Stations of the Cross (text p. 329)
*the steps for making a good moral choice (listed in notebook)
*the Sanctus prayer
*names of the Sacraments of  Initiation, Sacraments of Healing, Sacraments of Service
*name of a saint and specific evidence of how he/she lived a life of holiness
*four steps of Reconciliation and how to prepare for it (examination of coscience)
*Advent season practices: Advent wreath, Jesse tree, setting up a Nativity scene, etc.
*different types of sins
*Lenten season practices: praying the Stations of the Cross, fasting, almsgiving, etc.
*dates and names of important feast days listed on review sheets


THIRD GRADE
4/9 ELA Study the meaning of the key words (IN CAPITALS) in the Preamble written in the notebook.  Write a sentence for each word that shows that you understand the meaning of each.
 
4/9 REL Be sure to work on all the following:
*Study the definitions of all vocabulary words listed in notebook under aim: To review for Archdiocesan exam as well as ALL notes that follow these words.
*Look up and practice answering all essay questions listed in notebook.
*Review all definitions of words on  flashcards for Units 1,2,3 and 4 on www.sadlierreligion.com.

SECOND GRADE
4/9 ELA Students watch video of folktale "How the Camel Got its Hump"   on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4afoxwg-BH0. On looseleaf write a paragraph write a title and a paragraph of 6 to 8 sentences describing the setting, characters, and moral (lesson) of the story.

4/9 REL: Be sure to work on all of the following:
 *Review  definitions of all words on flashcards for Units 1, 2, 3, and 4 on www.sadlierreligion.com
*Study the definitions of all the words in the glossary in the back of the Religion book.
*Look up and study the definition of the vocabulary words in the Religion notebook.
Be sure to memorize:
*THE ACT OF CONTRITION
*each of the Ten Commandments (and specific ways in which YOU practice each of these)
*each of the steps of Reconciliation and how we prepare for it:
EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE - thinking about our sins and knowing which commandemnts we've broken
 The four steps are:  CONFESSION - telling your sins;  CONTRITION - being sorry for your sins; 
PENANCE - making up for the sins by prayers or good deeds;  ABSOLUTION- forgiveness of sins
*Be able to describe each story and explain what it teaches us:" The  Lost Sheep" and " The Forgiving Father."
