Review Notes for Mid -Term Exams for Third Grade

SOCIAL STUDIES:
Know the definitions of the following words:
mission, culture, technology, environment, pollution, community, artifact, colony

Know the difference between the following pairs:
urban/rural; peninsula/bay; mesa/plateau; hemisphere/equator;
geography/history; independence/slavery; weather/climate


Be able to answer the following questions:
*What are some forms of transportation?
*What are some examples of natural resources? What are some examples of minerals?
*Are wildlfe animals allowed to live naturally?
*Do volunteers get paid?
*What makes up the culture of a place?
*How does one recycle?
*How is a kiva used ? How is a port used?
*What is the member of a community called?
*What happens in a living history museum?

*What was an early English settlement in Virginia? Who was the leader of the settlement?
What did John Rolfe do to improve life there? Who was the daughter of Powhatan?

*Be able to explain how a rainforst community and a desert community are similar and different
by describing the following:
~how they get their food
~what natural resouurces are used to make their homes
~how they travel

RELIGION:
Know the definitions of the following words:
Ascension, Incarnation, Kingdom of God, Pentecost, Church, Resurrection,
commandments, heaven, repent, prophet, apostle, disciple

Know the difference between: Holy Family/Blessed Trinity; Old Testament/New Testament

Be prepared to answer the following questions:

*Who guided the authors of the Bible? What is another name for the words of the Bible?
*What does the name Jesus mean? What was Jesus' ministry?
*Was Jesus born without sin like Mary? Did Jesus forgive the men who crucifird him?
*Who was the foster father of Jesus? Does Jesus want us to prepare for his second coming?
What is another name for the second coming?
*Why was John the Baptist called a prophet? Did Jesus raise him from the dead?
* In the story of The Mustard Seed, what does the seed represent?

*Be prepared to write a paragraph for each of the following:
ONE of Jesus' parables - explain what happens and the message it gives us on how to live
ONE of the last three commandments - write commandment and describe how you follow it
ONE sacrament - name sacrament, identify symbols used, people present, and what happens
