Homework for Jan. 16 to 19 for Class 1-2

Dear Parents,
         This week all first grade students will be taking the MAP test in Math on Wed. and Reading on Thurs.  Please continue to practice on www.student.frontrowed.com to prepare for these tests. The Social Studies Quiz will be given on FRIDAY so that students can concentrate on practicing for the MAP testing. Due to a long faculty meeting last week, some work had to be rescheduled and some adjustments may need to be made this week due to the MAP testing. Total focus is required on these tests!

Homework for Jan. 17
NO MATH HOMEWORK TONIGHT!
ELA- Study for Map Reading test tomorrow. Below is a list of skills we have worked on in Reader's Writer's Journal that you can review at home as we did in class.
*the difference between telling sentences which end with a period and asking sentences which end with a question mark (pp. 24, 26)
*which words begin with a capital letter: first word of any sentence, names of people or animals (p. 32), names of months (p. 85), names of special places (China)
*recognizing nouns (names of person, place, or thing) and verbs (words that show action) p. 43
*difference between proper nouns and common nouns (p. 49)
*verbs matching nouns: The dog barks.  The dogs bark.  (p. 58)
* using commas to separate: The colors are red, white, and blue.  (pp. 78 and 92)
*present, past, future tense of verbs (pp. 80 and 95) eats- present, walked- past, will wait-future
*adding quotation marks around what a person says: "Come here," Tillie said. (p. 87)
*recognizing adjectives (describing words) p. 89 fine, busy are adjectives p. 103 bossy, tiny
*recognizing pronouns: he, him, she, her, it, I, me, we, us, you, they (pp. 121, 124)
*recognizing pronouns that show belonging: his, her, their, my, your, our
*using -ing after verbs (p. 122)
*knowing opposite or antonym of a word:  bad/good. hot/cold, start/end
*recognizing story elements: characters (people, animals), setting (time and place), events (what happens)
*recognizing text features: title, illustrations, headings, captions
PLEASE DON'T CRAM FOR THE TEST.  THIS IS JUST A HELPFUL LIST TO HELP YOU REVIEW WHATEVER  IS NEEDED.

Homework for Jan. 18
*MAP testing is over!  No Math homework till tomorrow!
Social Studies - Quiz tomorrow.  Study text book pp. 112, 113, 114.  Be sure you know definitions of all seven vocabulary words (see key words in blue on pp. 86 to 109).  There will be questions on following routes, using flow chart, and sorting things into groups.
Phonics -Do pp. 108, 109, and 110.

Homework for Jan. 19 
Math- Do pp. 113 and 114 in the workbook.  Look at the previous pp. 111-112 done in class as a model. Review corrected homework pages for End of Module Test next week.
Phonics- Do pp. 111, 112, and 113.
Religion- quiz next week. Study Chapter 8.  Study the meaning of each part of the Lord's Prayer on p. 103. DO NOT do the Chapter Review.
