Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grades for 5/27 to 5/31

Dear Parents,
         Students will not be taking this week's  ELA Quiz until this Friday in order to finish up the final unit.  A brief study guide will be sent by Thursday. There may be schedule changes due to visit by a company that works with students on financial literacy on Tues. and the NYS Science Performance Test for fourth on Wed.  Necessary adjustments will be made. All teachers' study guides for FINAL EXAMS will be ready by June 1st.

FOURTH
ELA 5/27 View the words and definitions from the Middle Ages on

Then on loose leaf after the heading, create an acrostic poem (as shown in class) using ONE of the vocabulary words.  Write the word  vertically IN BOLD LETTERS  and words that show its meaning horizontally.  For examples of different acrostic poems, see https://www.youngwriters.co.uk/types-acrostic
THERE SHOULD NOT BE MORE THAN FOUR WORDS ACROSS ON EACH LINE.

ELA 5/27 Read the poem  "Adventures with Isabel" by Ogden Nash
on http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/adventures-of-isabel/  On white paper draw a picture vertically that shows the action described in the stanza you were assigned in class.  Under the picture explain IN YOUR OWN WORDS what is happening in that stanza. Glue your picture  and description on construction paper.
***Follow directions below to know what stanza you are assigned:
If your initials are JA, SB,  IC,  AC- describe  Isabel and the Bear (lines 1 to 10)
If your initials are JD,  CG,  AG,  EG,  AJ- describe  Isabel and the Witch  (lines 11 to 20)
If your initials are CM,  EM,  VM,   AN,  JR- describe Isabel  and the Giant  (lines 21 to 30)
If your initials are  BR,  WS,  MT,  KU -  describe Isabel and the Doctor  (lines 31 to 40)
NOW GO BACK AND READ THE DIRECTIONS ON TOP AGAIN CAREFULLY!  On the top of the picture write as a title:   Isabel and the  __________ (fill in the character's name).

SECOND
ELA 5/17  On looseleaf write your heading.  Answer in ELA Voyages Workbook pp. 200 and 201.   Be sure to follow the directions in the book.
REL 5/30 On loose leaf answer all parts of each essay question below on loosleaf
1.(a) Describe what happens in the parable of "The Forgiving Father."   Write 4 or 5 sentences.
   (b)  Explain the lesson the parable is supposed to teach us.
2.(a) Choose commandment from 8 or 10.  Write the commandment.
   (b)  Explain  two ways that you , as a second grader, would obey this commandment.

** Review for ELA quiz tomorrow: examples of rhyming scheme, rhythm (beats), alliteration, onomatopoeia,  adjectives, and theme of poem "Sick" by Shel Silverstein; use of capital letters (days, months, name titles), use of abbreviations, and distinguishing between sentence and fragment.
