Homework for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th for 3/16 to 3/20

Dear Parents,
        Please remember there is no school this Friday. Please send in the TWO ELA quizzes if you have not done so!  The Religion quizzes are due back on Wednesday.
         Due to testing there will be no ixl assigned this week.  The Religion Unit 4 Test is this Tuesday.
Below are some of the ELA Unit 5 vocabulary definitions that need to be copied in ELA notebooks. It will be checked on Thursday.

FOURTH  GRADE
3/17 Copy these definitions in ELA notebook on the page following the folded down page for Unit 5:
*poetic terms- stanza (group of lines), verse (a line), rhyme scheme (pattern of lines ending with rhyming words), meter (rhythm pattern)
*poetic devices - simile, metaphor, alliteration, onomatopoeia, personification
*problem- conflict the character faces that he must solve
* solution - way in which a problem is solved
*humanity - the quality of being human, showing kindness and sympathy
*barren -not capable of producing growth, bare

3/19 On looseleaf answer the following Religion essay questions. Look up the answers and check for correct INFORMATION, spelling, and capitalization.
1. Making moral choices is very important in Christian life.
    (a) State three steps for making a good moral choice.
    (b) Describe a time when you had a difficult moral choice to make.
    (c) Explain how feelings are not a good indication whether this choice was right or wrong.
2. Fourth graders are expected to know the Ten Commandments.
    (a) Write the first commandment.
    (b) Explain two ways  a fourth grader can obey this commandment.
    (c) Write the eight commandment.
    (d) Explain two ways  a fourth grader can obey this commandment.

THIRD GRADE
3/17 Copy these definitions in ELA notebook on the page following the folded down page for Unit 5:
*Preamble - introduction to the Constitution
*Constitution - document with a set of rules Americans can live by
*revolutionary- causing important changes
*majority - more than half the people
*text structure - cause/effect; compare/contrast; sequence
*affix - prefix or suffix attached to a root word

3/19 On looseleaf answer the following Religion essay questions. Look up the answers and check for correct INFORMATION, spelling, and capitalization.
1. There are several stories about Jesus' miracles.
     (a) Name TWO different stories in which Jesus performed a miracle.
     (b) Describe in 4 or 5 sentences what happens in one of these stories.
2. Jesus told several parables to teach us about God's love.
     (a) Name and describe your favorite parable in 4 or 5 sentences.
      (b) Describe in 3 or 4 sentences what lesson  Jesus is teaching in this parable.


SECOND GRADE

*character - person or animal in a story
*setting - the time and place of a story
* plot - the series of events in a story
* moral - the lesson taught in the story
* folktale - a fantasy story passed down orally through the generations
*village - a town

1.  Many students celebrate Reconciliation for the first time in second grade.
    (a) What do you do to prepare for the sacrament of Reconciliation?
    (b) Name the four steps in receiving the sacrament and explain what happens in each.
2. "The Lost Sheep" and "The Prodigal Son" ("The Forgiving Father") are both parables Jesus told.
    Choose one of the parables and answer the questions below.
    (a) In four sentences explain what happens in the parable.
    (b) In two sentences explain what the parable means.
